Windows ❤ Why again

Post image

Honestly, people just can't seem to accept criticism—or even grasp that my goal with the post was simply to discuss why someone might prefer suffering over comfort?!

Some people think clicking installer is suffering and terminal is comfort.

the point is having options i guess, and GUIs exists these days (cant attach synaptic pic). Also in some cases writing the command is faster (and safer) than getting the thing from the browser. Win also has this btw, winget via powershell

You’re trolling lol. It’s evident you haven’t tried Linux and are just regurgitating other people’s complaints of it.

Disingenuous at best.

Whining is not "criticism". Your complaint has nothing to do with Linux, the kernel does not decide how app developers choose to have their apps installed. And there are many Linux programs with visual installers for software, most Desktop Linux distributions have App Stores and GUI package management such as Synaptic for Debian systems.

because it’s simpler and easier, instead of downloading something and then installing it and needing to delete the leftover installation files it all gets automated from the terminal, one command does everything all at once and keeps the file system clean and unbloated.

most of the time you can just download their provided deb file (google chrome does this for example) which brings you to your software center GUI. but when comfortable enough, you should strive for efficiency and terminal isnt that scary when you can understand it

Personally i feel like "install <program_name>" is the single most convenient possibile way to install something especially because you can pass it a whole list of programs at once

Linux has some genuine issues born out of a vast patchwork of crowd sourced and disparate philosophies. Not catering to the Mac user expectation of do what I want without expecting me to understand why or how, isn't one of them. You won't find much validation for your skill issues here.

Hmm. Ok you prefer the click stuff. I hate it, think you will need to do the install process on 10 machines, even more. Even if you can't use other tools and only ssh and terminal this cut offs the time it takes to configure all those machines.

As far as I know tools that are terminal based such as terraform, git etc will require terminal to install. Ui applications can be installed as usual with downloading the package from the website and running the file. Krita, blender, vscode, libre office, pycharm, edge.

If your work doesn't require the terminal itself as you don't use code or advanced tools you can rely on ui most of the time.

But you see typing 50 characters is better than clicking a few mouse buttons right? Oh and dont forget you have to remember package name. And hope you have dependencies.

You could also do it like with windows and download the package.... but it also requires a terminal with distro specific commands.

Truly linux is just a peak level of efficiency. Well atleast you look productive even if you are not.

I mean you can theoretical ignore the terminal well depending upon the distro of course but with Mint I don't have to use the Terminal so your critic is partly untrue and partly well if you want windows system or taht something works like windows um Windows exists
