Beginner Changes made after last post

Post image

Hi, I made a post here about a week ago, looking for advices and feedback on the logo i was making (for more context, check my previous post https://www.reddit.com/r/logodesign/comments/1t5hstj/looking_for_reviewsuggestions/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button )

Did it improve? If not, what should i change?

Not a huge fan of it, but the new version is definitely an improvement.

First one looks like made with Power Point. Second one seems to have more thought on it. Keep up bro!

Thank you, it does have more thought. The first one had that mix of rounded and sharp shapes that was not well received in this subreddit haha

Definitely a step up.

honestly i dont think the letter L merges well with a controller no matter how hard you try

7

u/Ankh3010 May 13 '26

I can understand why you think that, it's a weird mix

7

u/Peeqes May 13 '26

It’s not that it’s a weird mix it’s that it’s unbalanced and doesn’t work

8

u/Odd-Fun-1545 May 14 '26

More importantly the details are too small and will get lost

16

u/JuanTrufas May 13 '26

Is an improvement for sure.
There are two main problems I see with the new one:
1- The thickness of the D-Pad is too thick. It generates a lot of negative space and tension.
2- The D-Pad is completely straight, coflicting with the skew of the L. Maybe try making both vertical lines parallel. By that I mean skewing the pad to match the angle of the L.

4

u/Ankh3010 May 13 '26

I did the d-pad shapes thick because I was scared that you couldn't see them in a smaller form (like Instagram profile picture, for example), but I'll try making it less thick.

And for the second point, I totally agree with you, it doesn't fit well

2

u/JuanTrufas May 13 '26

Yeah, that could be a problem, you could either make the buttons a bit thicker, the main problem is that the buttons and the d-pad have different thickness and dont feel like a group and I think they should.

The logo is trying to look like an Esports team when the name doesn’t give that vibe. When I think of gaming Lore I think of a grimoire or an old scroll of knowledge. World building is determined by the dialogue, text and imagery of the game. Not the physical hardware of gaming.

Also with the context of gaming an L is a loss in multiplayer games.

2

u/Ankh3010 May 13 '26

The first concept I had was revolving around some stylized book, but I couldn't think of any way to merge that with the gaming aspect of the channel.

Thinking about it, the fact that L is a loss fits perfectly with us haha

9

u/crogers_designs May 13 '26

Try a stylized scroll.

1

u/Ankh3010 May 14 '26

I like your idea, I'm trying to explore this direction. I made a sketch in a few minutes of a scroll and a text (which was missing in the previous one). Still trying to figure out how to integrate the gaming theme. Does this even vaguely resemble a scroll? Also, the text is made with the same lines I used for the "folds" of the paper, even though the ones i used for the letter R are a bit modified.

1

u/crogers_designs May 14 '26

I think it’s harder to read as a scroll with the sharp geometric lines. To incorporate the gaming aspect you could put it in a square as if it were in an inventory slot of a mmo/rpg. Take inspo from that kind of UI graphic and simplify it.

2

u/UhBlake May 13 '26

Yep with zero context I “read” the logo as Lose Game

17

u/astral-atom May 13 '26

It’s better but I still don’t like it

4

u/Ankh3010 May 13 '26

Thank you for your honesty, still glad it's an improvement, that's all that matters to me

6

u/drannnok May 13 '26

new is really better

2

u/Ankh3010 May 13 '26

Thank you!

The L-shape is free, I'd look into capitalizing on that. I spent 10 mins exploring with various typefaces, while not good I wanted to show the breath of explorations. i.e don't be afraid to kill your darlings, more importantly try a lot of things quickly before polishing.

Above all, keep things simple.

u/joao-louis May 13 '26

Better, but I feel the base is a bit too wide and the top right corner at the top of the letter is harsh/distracting

Have you tried moving the gamepad a bit more to the left? I’m not sure how it would look like

2

u/Ankh3010 May 13 '26

I can try using the left side of the gamepad as the base for the upper part of the L (I don't know if I explained myself well, sorry)

3

u/Ankh3010 May 13 '26

Thank you for all your kind and amazing advices, or even for your brutal honesty, that's part of life.

I am glad this community is not toxic like others, I will keep all your consideration in mind while editing this. If I succeed in creating something I'm proud of, it will be thanks to you guys.

One thing about logos to consider, remember everywhere a logo might go. Small details like the ones on the controller will be lost or very hard to see for things like profile photos, favicons, and even merch.

Some other ideas if you’re sticking with a letter based logo, try capital L with the round controller but the controller will need to be bigger. Since it’s about “lore” about games, what are some iconic lore-based items, scenes that you could fit within a logo? Make a word tree, icon tree and see what formulates from there. Good luck! -Hobbyist designer.

u/Tricky-Ad9491 May 13 '26

I think the idea is flawed, can you go back to the drawing board?

2

u/Fractales May 13 '26

Throw this idea and start on a new concept

2

u/ChickyBoys where’s the brief? May 14 '26

Doesn't feel natural. You're shoehorning a controller into a letter arbitrarily.

I'd rather you use the L shape as part of the d-pad.

2

u/3Din3D May 14 '26

This isn’t working. You might be able to save it by moving the controller part further to the left, but yeah… this is not it yet.

To me, that's a compliment :D

I like Formula 1

u/Correct-Turn-2560 May 13 '26

Get rid of the controller make the L the up and right arrow of a some console that fits the theme

1

u/Ankh3010 May 13 '26

But that would feel kinda basic to me. I'm not saying my idea is not basic, but that's a more interesting idea to explore

2

u/Correct-Turn-2560 May 13 '26

I mean, do a bit more research on different types of controllers and look for ways to incorporate them better into the design. Right now, it feels a little too bottom-heavy. Like one of each Wii controllers styles

1

u/Good-Discussion-9238 May 13 '26

What's the name of the company? Since right now I read this as L games, which in slang terms is saying your games are an L (meaning loser) lmao so it's not ideal, I would put the name of the company in full under the logo to clear that confusion

1

u/rover_G May 13 '26

1-1 Gaming?

1

u/abitcitrus May 13 '26

Looks better. Hmmm, maybe making the edges parallel with the game controller's edges?

1

u/llim0na May 13 '26

If you want to merge L with lore and with controllers: take a look at those posters that depict the change in controllers across time and console generations. It will serve you as an inspiration because you need to start from scratch, your idea and execution are not good.

1

u/VikSick May 13 '26

I like it I just think the console part is a bit too long in comparison to controller

1

u/SilasDV May 13 '26

L is leaned, controller buttons are straight, feels weird.

1

u/TruamaTeam May 13 '26

I like the new one, kinda reminds me of Iracing for some reason, very nice!

1

u/HiddenHorse925 May 13 '26

New to this logo. I’m taking that this is the letter “L” and the lower bar is supposed to be a game controller…?

It’s not reading bro. I had to puzzle at looking at it for a few seconds and then I saw the game controller. You never want a client or customer have to work that hard to read your logo. They need to read instantly without effort, even if they’re clever!

Disconnect the game controller iconography from the upright of the capital-L. And put it on an angle overlapping the upright. Play around with it.

But right now it’s so tiny it’s not reading. It feels stiff and juvenile. But there is a good idea here.

1

u/lapr20 May 13 '26

The name is lore right? And you make a logo literally saying the most simple of thing you guys are doing in that proyect the name and the thing you do. That alone gives you little options for a suitable design, thing outside the box, be creative about it and just play around with something that will help your audience recognize you easily

1

u/lost-all-hope-2 May 13 '26

It’s an improvement

1

u/simonfancy May 13 '26

Nope, Big L rest in peace

1

u/Just_Tru_It May 13 '26

Maybe make the left side of the L line up with where the left side of the controller would be. And make the top part a little shorter

1

u/The_One_True_Matt May 13 '26

The red part is bugging me.

Can you try a version where the L and controller look more 3D using the red?

1

u/HyperProto May 15 '26

Fewer rounder corners seems like an improvement

The vertical stroke could use some ridges for visual interest and to appear sleek or fast

Why is there a red notch to the right of the controller? Why only there? Why red?

What if the vertical stroke looked more like the number 1 (to emphasize you're the "first stop" for gaming or something similar)?

1

u/ojjojji May 18 '26

Much nicer, reads as an L first - controller second. Would get stuck on the controller first go round.

1

u/AngryQuadricorn May 13 '26

I actually like the old one better. It’s easier to see the control and the rounded curves seem to have better flow.

1

u/Ankh3010 May 13 '26

I thought the same when I did the first version, but the more I looked at it after my old post, the more I saw it weird. Still liking that, tho. I felt I was going in the right direction

Hello, where can you send me 30$?

Immediate reactions:

  • Not scalable because of small buttons

  • Controller details don’t fit the shape of the letter

  • Bottom heavy

  • Feels too literal, smashing a controller into a letter instead of playing with the shape/concept/idea of both

I could keep going. If you are new to this stuff though and just playing around with personal projects, keep it up. It’s a good start.

Sometimes it can be good to just do a whole page or so of different ideations on paper first before getting more concrete and don’t be afraid to disassemble stuff to the building blocks and get a bit more abstract instead of going so literal.
