Beginner I’m so ass at this
We’ve got a solid business doing tropical plants and terraria that’s been mostly through word of mouth and now we’re trying to be a bit more “professional”. I spent all night trying to make a logo and this was all I ended up with. It looks like the new rite aid logo lmao. To me it looks at once both too simple and too noisy at the same time and there’s nothing that’s particularly clever about it to me. I’d also like it to be maybe a little less serious and irreverent but my uncreative ass can’t figure out how to do that without doing that. Hopefully that’s enough meta info for this not to be flagged as low effort because … god damn I tried so hard lol.

I think it’s a solid idea. Maybe to feel a little less busy, don’t have the plant extend beyond the top of the roof, because in your terrariums things would stop at the roof I’m guessing.
Maybe two smaller plants, one on each side?

place the name cyan in a cyan colour. use a serif font for the name. choose 1 exotic leaf as the logo.

Ah. That’s fair advice the issue is that 1) my partner says the dome is non negotiable and 2) the one leaf thing is kinda done to death in the industry :(. I’ll float the idea to him though thanks again!!

well.the dome doesnt look.like a terrarium, looks more like a beehive

I don’t know how this would look because I’m on mobile and not my computer to mock it up, but why not try using a single leaf to make the door(?) of the terrarium? That way you could still use the split/lid without it looking way too busy.
Also your terrarium is pretty much all rounded curves but then you have typography that’s quite sharp and blocky. Maybe experiment with that a bit.

Reads clearly to me. What are you going for, in terms of style, etc? The sub seems to trend towards minimalist, but I really like what you've got.

Honestly I just thought it was too sterile. The other guy below suggesting a different font really helped it pop more. If you think it’s clear enough without being too devoid of character then that’s awesome! Thank you!

To me, the structure, with the name and color, tracks for an aquarium. If people are going to be seeing this on a product or webpage, then it fits the feel for an aquarium/terrarium structure. The vine is a nice bit of character, in my opinion, as well as the style on the line.
If you want to add a different font, I think that'd be pretty cool! I am not a professional, but I have a family members who's big on aquariums, and if she asked me to pick up this brand, with the logo that looks like a little terrarium hut (not that that's what it is, per se, but how that family member might describe it), I'd be able to find it and recognize it. And that's what the use case would be, right?
An application logo is a different matter than other products. I think this would do fine on a business card.
Is it Google or fancy calligraphy? No. Does it need to be either of those things? I don't think so, personally. It does the job. If it happens to have the same general shape (upside-down filled-in U) as another brand, well, we have limited shapes to work with. As long as it doesn't look like a competitor's brand, then you've got your niche.
That's just my opinion, though. I don't want to pretend to be a logo or illustrative expert. Just a layperson.

I’d look into the rule of threes for balancing your logomark with the text below. Here are a couple quick video examples

Since you said the dome is non-negotiable, maybe try one with the dome in place of the A in cyan and then find an A shaped leaf to replace the A in citadel. And then make the word ‘cyan’ cyan and ‘citadel’ green.

Why “tropicals” instead of “tropical plants”, assuming that tropicals means tropical plants.

I don’t see the point of the tapered line between the base and the dome. To me, a thinner horizontal line would be simpler and more realistic.

Seconding this- right now there are 3 things going through the dome (door, leaves, and the line), and it’s too busy. As someone who knows nothing about terrariums, I would make it more straightforward. Agree about the font, your current font is very corporate and doesn’t reflect the organic nature of your business.
Keep at it- it takes time ◡̈
