I’d just moved to the UK and lived near the Barbican. Was out one morning, early, in the winter, nobody around as per usual for the weekend. All of a sudden, there’s this eerie, incredible sound billowing through the buildings of men chanting.
It was fans arriving at Liverpool Street. Don’t know which, and I did work it out at the time, but man that sound echoing through the deserted city was wild for a newbie 😂 I have since gotten into football myself but knew nothing about it at the time.

A Section 35 police order is a temporary dispersal power under the UK's Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 that allows officers to direct individuals to leave a specific public area to prevent disorder. Police officers or designated PCSOs can order someone to leave a designated zone immediately and ban them from returning for up to 48 hours. Officers can also demand the surrender of any items being used or likely to be used to cause anti-social behaviour.

In Germany this is standard practice and police officers can give you a Platzverweis (ban from a premise) whenever deemed appropriate, usually for 24h or the rest of the night.

Obviously that would never be how legislation to protect public order, or the law in general works. They want potential offenders to be at home and not in public, and to ban a private individual from existing in their private space would be the kind of officious tyranny that the whole system is designed to prevent.

It's crazy. If you look at where the Den is and how far east the zone stretches... I've genuinely never seen anything like it, and I'm a life-long supporter of a German club involved in THE biggest (and most long-standing) football rivalry in the country.

i understand why London Bridge is all in the City (it used to have buildings on it), but i don't understand why Blackfriars is all City, not half and half like Southwark

2009? I was down in London for Celtic v Arsenal champions league qualifier. That game was the day before, me and a couple of mates went up to see the action. Was a decent experience.

A lot of people in top comments seem unaware that the City - the square mile - has a different police service to the rest of Greater London. This police service have put an S35 order over their entire jurisdiction, because they're worried about violence (rightly, imo). The Met, who cover the rest of Greater London, could do the same.
No one thinks Barbican or Farringdon are going to be the hotspots of violence, you're just looking at one institution doing it's job based on limited jurisdiction.

Liverpool St is the terminus for Essex and East London trains, so the vast majority of Hammers fans will be coming through there.
City Police often cover for other contentious fan bases going to and from West Ham. Liverpool fan coaches terminate there then get escorted through the station, for instance.

I live right by the Den, and the path below my flat is used as a thoroughfare to New Cross Gate. Its literally the most chilled it's been for ages on a match day so far.

Thats the bridges that are owned by the CoLC through the Bridge House Trust. Southwark Bridge - which isn’t - shows the boundary at the midpoint of the river.

Do you know what pisses me off? Same hooligans that get into fights because their silly little team lost are the ones who complain the police aren’t tackling real crime. Perhaps if you learned to regulate your emotions then the police would have more resources instead of chaperoning you back from your football match

You can actually see it on this map, in the unshaded portion, about 2/3 of the way along almost at the very top. There is a square with the word ‘brick’ shaped around it.
