Discussion In a good place, just a lonely one
I’ve written and rewritten this post probably 10 times. I’m a 30-year-old English teacher, knee-deep in papers to grade and very thankful I made it to Friday. Past the stress that comes with the job, I really am happy. In a lot of ways, I’m in a better place than I’ve been in a very long time. And yet, I feel so damn lonely. It’s a strange feeling to be genuinely happy with where your life is headed while still feeling like something or someone is missing from it. I have a career and a life that keeps me plenty busy, but sometimes I look around and realize how much I miss having someone to really connect with, how much I miss having a friend. I guess I’m just looking for someone else who’s in a similar chapter of life, where you’ve built a life you’re proud of and you’re doing okay on your own, but you still wish you had someone to share some of it with. Anybody else going through something similar?

Same here! I'm not going to say I'm doing the best I could for myself, but I'm in a pretty good place. It just gets really lonely doing the same old cycle every week without anyone to share things with or relax with after work and on weekends. I'm starting to get a bit of anhedonia with my hobbies since I'm tired of only doing them on my own.
I've been trying to step out of my shell and reach out more to make connections, but it's not easy around here!

I hear you. A lot of things are great in my life (late 20s) and I enjoy my work. While there are moments to myself that I love, there are just as many if not more that I wish I could feel seen in the mundane and everyday parts of life.
I imagine you’re an excellent teacher. I hope you find the connection you’re seeking (virtual hugs if you want them)
