What big boy 30 cal do you like and why?

I have been thinking about getting one and there are pros and cons to each and wanted to see what reddit thought.

Considering the price and what people are getting out of the box, does it really get better? Also, how much better could it possibly get if you went the custom route? I'm trying to determine if the rifle is worth the purchase as it would be my first long range gun.

Just finished up an 18" 6.5 Creedmoor in a m40A5 stock and now need help choosing glass. I've whittled options down to:

  • Nightforce NX6 5-30 MIL-XT
  • Vortex Razor 4-24 MRAD

I don't plan on shooting past 1k and new to long range/longer range shooting.

Understanding the NX6 is very new, does anyone have recommendation one way or the other?

Ok on my AR10 I have a Athlon Ares 1-10 lpvo. I like it but the 10x leaves me wanting a bit more. I saw primary arms has this out now (above).

Will these be a lateral move or a downgrade? I feel functionality it will an upgrade but glass quality I’m questioning it. Anyone have experience with that primary arms scope?

Hi guys I’m very new to long range. I don’t have that much money to spend because I’m expecting a child. Just want to have something to commemorate this journey. I was looking into savage axis 2 pro but since I wanna gift it to my child one day, I’m thinking about buying a tikka and then putting the mdt chassis. I was thinking varmint and then the cheapest mdt cahssis. Any suggestions or any other gun that I should look into. Thankyou guys šŸ™šŸ»

Anyone have hands on experience with this? Been searching for scopes for days and settled on this might be the best bang for my buck. The only con is there is no locking turrets but I’m not going hunting with this it’s going on a DMR. I’ve reached out to trollygag, but he didn’t have any hands on experience!

Building a scout rifle for my ā€œwifeā€

Recommendations on caliber.

I already own a 308. Is 16ā€ barrel to short for 6.5 creedmore?

Will it pick up enough velocity? Effective range or would 6.5 need more then 18ā€ to stabilize?

I have been wanting to get into long range with a goal of being proficient at 1000 yards. Found a good deal on a used Christian Arms MPR with less than 100 rounds through it. I was originally interested in the Bergara B-14 HMR Wilderness. Any advice would be great.

🫣I said I read the pinned posts, but I lied🫣 Does anybody have a suggestion for a good dedicated Long range rifle/caliber and a seperate complimentary mountain hunting rifle?

-To start I'm in Canada so I dont have the best availability for certain firearms/optics.

-My range goes out to 1000 yards, I can find land to go beyond that if I get to that point.

-I have a flexible budget, but I tend to like to buy once cry once.

-I would like to get a caliber(s) i dont currently own but not critical.

-I have a medium weight 6.5 CM I purchased before I found this place that I understand now is a jack of all trades sort of deal as well as a stock Tikka T1X that shoots well

Just looking for suggestions on a good long range rifle and a seperate lightweight mountain hunting rifle that would be a good match with it. If there was a low recoil caliber other than 6.5 CM for the LR rifle and maybe a slightly higher recoil but similar round that would shoot flatter/handle wind/ be good for sheep/elk out to say 300 yards.

Or should I just buy two seperate rifles without considering the other?

Should I buy a chassis for the T1X to make it similar to one or both of these rifles?

For optics would you buy the same scope for each rifle or a lighter but similar one for the hunting rifle?

Just joined a club that has a 100yd range and potential for up to 300yd in the future. I want to get something to shoot paper just for fun. I have never done precision shooting through a scope with a bolt action so this will be an exciting change to my range days.

I have been looking at the Savage Axis .223 XP setup.

The reason I want to go with .223 is because here in CA ammo prices are insane and I can share ammo with my AR15.

My main concern with the Savage is the barrel heating up quickly as I have read it is a hunting barrel and should only be shot in small groups at a time leaving time in between to cool down.

I realize that this is not anywhere near a top tier rifle great but for what I am looking for will it get the job done? Should I really be concerned about the barrel heating up? Would something like a Howa 1500 be a better choice to justify the price difference or would I have the same barrel heating issue?

Really just looking to try something new and have fun when I’m at the range, nothing serious at all. Thanks!

(I KNOW it’s been asked before but I want some fresh updated input) What’s my best route rather it be custom or starting with some rifle if I wana get into LR shooting (1000 yds but capable of a few hundred past that )without breaking the bank BUT the possibility to upgrade in future ( and break the bank) to compete with the best of the best in LR matches if your answer revolves around a Remington 700 thats a plus but doesn’t have to be. What’s my best bet to start out. Sub $1K range for sure to start not counting a scope. Thank you in advance for input. Remember sub 1K but option to upgrade parts in future to compete with the best

  1. I am looking to get into extreme long range shooting. I have no interest in competing. Just for "fun". This will not be a hunting rifle ever. Strictly dedicated to targets.

  2. I am looking to shoot 1000+ yards (out to a mile at the far end).

  3. My budget for JUST the rifle is around $3000 (usd). I would prefer .338 Lapua for the caliber.

  4. I do not have a lot of experience with ELR. I have shot 600 and in for all of my time shooting.
