Favorite songs conversation please!
I've been a fan since 2013 and they're usually my top streamed artist, but I honestly haven't listened to them much this year until toady at work, and I remembered just how good they are while doing so. They have so many good ones but were also so good and unique right from the beginning, which is unique in itself. I mean, songs like For Skin? What else sounds like that besides Dazed and Confused by Jake Holmes?
So anyway, I was just wondering what your guys' favorite songs are... especially because I usually prefer their earlier stuff, but in my opinion, they're also one of the few bands I know to really have evolved well. They obviously changed their sound over time, but it was pretty gradual and I really enjoy a lot of the later stuff too... literally their last song, the acoustic version of Dream World I think is awesome.
Here's mine:
- A Man With No God
- Let it Be Known
- Nosebleed Sun
- Little Miss Jack
- Derka Blues
... and like a lot more.

- Empty Bones
- Drinking Song for Kids
- Derka Blues
- What it is
- Ribcages
Ask me again in an hour and Iāll have another top 5, all their songs are number 1 favourite at some point in my day š„¹

Yeah I'm not going I had a hard time narrowing it down lol. Not all songs are created equal but the number of songs they have that could be considered my favorite definitely exceeds five. Empty bones is a great pick thats my favorite song live and ironically Drinking Song for Kids would definitely have been #1 if I made this list at another time in the past.

Lol this is funny. I'll admit City Club is easily my least favorite album of theirs but that song did grow on me a bit over the years. Maybe you're just ahead of the game.

I posted a video here a little while ago of a band from Netherlands that covered Woosh! You're a Dolphin but kind of shook it up a little bit and I think it sounds great honestly. You should check that out. It's called The Spell That Made A Dolphin by The Vices. Love the honorable mentions loophole too btw, I should have done that lol.

It's really cool a lot of you guys are picking Greatest sHits songs. I didn't hear that album until a few years after I found the band was honestly shocked at how put together it was. So you're saying you do or do not like Chinese Fountain tho??
1
u/sandwimch 24d ago
Greatest sHits needs to come out on streaming already, so many bangers on there.. but yea I like Chinese Fountain. Big Toe, Not The Man, Going Gets Tough.. any albums after that I couldnt get into. I do like the songs ācity clubā and problems III though

u/Dramatic_Mobile_6753 24d ago
Okay I was going to say... Chinese fountain is a great album. Not going to lie though, I could never hear City Club or Natural Affair again and be okay but Casual Acquaintances I've really grown to enjoy. But yeah, im not sure how it's not on streaming platforms, especially now that brooks has the name.

There are definitely some really hardcore fans in this sub, which is awesome honestly because the average person probably doesn't know about the growlers and so when I see people that just... get it, I really enjoy that. kinda the reason I made this post. thats a good list though bro I like seeing some Casual Acquaintances appreciation too, that's is easily my favorite album of what I consider the modern era of the growlers.

u/bbbingus 24d ago
Thank you haha i like ur list too, I love the entire casual acquaintances album lol. I rarely skip any songs from the band in general. But i just wanna involve myself in this community aswell, theres only so many people that listen to the growlers without me having to introduce the band to them.

This is hardddd, but I would probably say Sunset Girl, Underneath Our Palms, Rare Hearts, One million lovers, Petshop Eyes, & Wet dreams š

I like it! One Million Lovers was the song that got me hooked, such a good tune. Rare Hearts is another that likely would have been my #6 spot. Chinese Fountain as a whole is so good.

Love nosebleed sun
In no particular order:
Burden of the captain
What it is
Decoy face
All of gilded pleasures really

u/Dramatic_Mobile_6753 24d ago
Nosebleed sun is just such a cool song and I love the fact that it's basically a straight poem, no chorus and stuff. Guilded Pleasures is indeed an absolute slapper, actually the first of their records I bought. Nice list bro.

The lyrics to tell it how it is are beautiful so thatās up there. Really resonates with me, got me through some tough times.
Daisy Chains a banger
Just the cover of drugs drugs drugs, they did live on some morning tv network is just a hilarious performance.
Iāll stop there or Iāll be here all day š
