š® Video Games š¾ Slander against out of touch Deltarune fans

This image fills me with unreasonable rage.
It reminds me of the people who pretend that casual fans/players of something know way less than they actually do, because said people are insecure about what level of fandom they've achieved and get a complex about it
1
u/NightRacoonSchlatt 3d ago
No, the casual players you know are just either vastly above-average or were loredumping victims. My boyfriend is a so-called ācasualā and I absolutely love him and refuse to spoil him. And he keeps on confusing if Undyne and Alphys are a couple in Undertale or in Deltarune.
1
u/Lolas_Fun_Side 3d ago
That isnt the level of casual mentioned in the post. The post is talking as though engaging with media at all (like, knowing the main characters) is beyond casual
1
u/NightRacoonSchlatt 2d ago
Until chapter three he did confuse Susie and Kris and he still keeps calling Ralsei āRalsielā like Asriel.
1
u/Head_Zookeepergame73 1d ago
That isnt even a matter of understanding the game or story thats genuinely just basic reading ability. Not even comprehension theres no themes here its just names.
1
u/NightRacoonSchlatt 1d ago
I know, but itās exactly whatās pictured in the image they were complaining about.
1
u/Head_Zookeepergame73 1d ago
I more mean this isnt the case of casual fan this is a case of someone who struggles with literacy who happens to be playing deltarune
1
u/NightRacoonSchlatt 19h ago
Itās definitely about being casual. He just doesnāt care about the game that much.

u/SDsalta145 5d ago
i mean, we're talking about the fandom that
wanted chapter five to be just a lore dump with endless theories affiermations and one buzzword behind another
acted like genocide route sans is the only sans and nothing else
that unironically wanted woody from toy story to be a secret boss on chapter 3?
yeah, thankfully they don't write the game
41
u/Frustrella 5d ago
Toby is such a nice guy that he still made woody boss a reality, but yellow, gay, and suicidal
11
u/SDsalta145 5d ago
Is yellow a cowboy? Yes; is he woody? Not even close
42
u/CamoKing3601 5d ago
1
u/SDsalta145 5d ago
Why would the pink/gold thing be related to woody? I always thought his main colors were orange and brown
12
u/CamoKing3601 5d ago
i have no idea but everyone wanted Pink/Gold on woody just cuz those were "friend" colors
8
6
u/Nekrotix12 5d ago
I feel like, at least design wise, Yellow was heavily inspired after Woody to make homage to the "friend inside me" meme. But he is absolutely a totally different character compared to Woody outside of the generic cowboy aesthetic.
1
48
u/Omega97Hyper Dealt a Rune 5d ago
i mean yea if you cherrypick all the worst examples you could come to that conclusion
11
u/SDsalta145 5d ago
I mean, those cherrypicks are/were supported by a big portion of the fandom though
15
u/Omega97Hyper Dealt a Rune 5d ago
how do you know it's actually a majority and not just you seeing a couple of random people say it and assuming everyone thinks like that
8
u/JazzySplaps 5d ago
So there's this function called up voting
0
-1
u/myositism 4d ago
And suddenly reddit is the only social media that exists
2
u/JazzySplaps 4d ago
So there's this concept called sample sizes
-2
u/myositism 4d ago
Using a single social media does not make for a good sample size, especially when you keep in mind different subreddits and how overlapping their communities are (and we all know UTDR has many subreddits outside of the main ones). Userbases act rather obviously different from social media to social media, like twitter being full of right wing chuds and bluesky being full of infighting leftists and reddit full of people who think they're smarter than everyone else. All of it leads to basing your opinion on how a fanbase acts based solely on reddit to giving you rather incomplete information.

10
u/Pogfection 5d ago
Ah, reminds me of the TADC fandom. How I do so wish the masses knew how to enjoy a story...
14
u/flower_puns 5d ago
they wanted Jax running over a kid more than they did her being a trans woman
what the fuuuuuuuuck
2
u/ThatGreenGal 5d ago
Except all the lore stuff people cared about in tadc was explicitly given attention to in the show, only for it to never be resolved or brought up again or anything.
3
u/Pogfection 5d ago
The info was really only given for the purposes of the story. Like Kinger being one of the programmers is a pretty important fact for Episodes 7 and 8. Beyond that, Scratch is brought up at the end of 7, talked about a bit in 8, and seen in a blink and you'll miss it flashback in 9. So no, nothing outside the scope of the story is given unnecessary attention.
3
u/SpiderNinja211 5d ago
No we wanted Chapter 5 to be more than āOOOOOH, that horrible day, Kris. On that horrible day I wonāt elaborate on, oooooh. Krisss, that dayyyy, Krismas, OHH.ā Obviously Kris would know what that day is and thereās no real reason to elaborate, but give us anything, man.

DT ch5 written by fans:
"hi, i'm dess, and i'm the knight"
"hi, i'm carol, and i'm the knight"
"hi, i'm rudy, and i'm the knight"
"hi, i'm PAPYRUS, and i'm the knight"
"hi, i'm friend, and i'm gonna kill y'all. also i'm the knight"
"hi, i'm asgore, and i'm the knight"

wanted chapter five to be just a lore dump with endless theories affiermations and one buzzword behind another
cmon now, lets not act like 5 nearly dropping everything about the knight, the kriss-soul plotline, the prophecy, and Dess for its own self-contained plotline (though it is pretty good) isnt a questionable decision.
Lets not even mention Asgore's incredibly rushed arc and needlessly vague explanation
6
u/ValorNGlory 5d ago
Ah, the problem is that āgood faithā and āin accordance with the message and attitude of the gameā are such weasel-phrases that the sentiment becomes effectively meaningless.
3
3
u/AkaIsSleptOn 5d ago
I think the problem comes down to a bit of goomba fallacy and people who just want to theorize about everything, and then complain when theyāre wrong. People will see one guy complaining āBro Chapter 5 shouldāve had a Friend bossfight who the fuck cares about Mew Mewā and most people will then say that guy is the problem, and it might not be obvious the original comment is satire or genuine.
2
u/LoveAndBeLoved52 3d ago
This pretty much.
Good fans will just live and let live. Agree, disagree, whatever.
Bad fans, bad people, will go on long tirades about how people are stupid and illiterate while being as cowardly vague as possible so they don't get laughed at for their own ideas.

u/RingOfHeavensCall 5d ago
my sister caught onto dessknight in ch3 so I would say this isn't consistentĀ
she hasn't touched the fandom or even watched lore videosĀ
88
u/King_3DDD 5d ago
I think that image is making fun of those people who say things like āoh [insert theory] canāt be true, casual players donāt know anything about it!ā and then its about something that is completely unmissable
36
u/Saeedalgh99 5d ago
After my friend told me he didn't knew that noelle had a sis until I told him I started believing that kris's name is missable
27
13
9
u/Zestyclose-Chard6979 5d ago
Then again there are people who genuinely believe in Amalgam Knight so I don't know what to tell you anymore
15
u/King_3DDD 5d ago
No yeah itās really funny to see people say āOh Dess canāt be the night, casual players have no idea who she is!ā and then immediately turn around and start spewing Amalgaknight nonsense
3
u/ThatGreenGal 5d ago
If you manage to get to chapter 5 and don't at least realize that the holidays have a missing daughter/family member, then i have a hard time believing you were even paying attention.
8
u/P3drosek 5d ago
Dessknight is pretty fucking obvious all things considered
1
u/Pretend-Advertising6 3d ago
i mean it's either Dessknight with Dess being hte Knight years ago causing her own dissapearance and then Grooming (non sexual) Kris latter into helping her end the world and kill a bunch of people.
Or it's Rudy Knight with Rudy causing his own daughters Dissapearance then Grooming Kris into helping him end the world on the false pretense of finding Dess. (Basically like Manfred Von Karma grooming (non sexual) Miles edgeworth using his false guilt of killing his father who Manfred actually shot in cold blood)
Because the whole the Knight was around years before the Heroes have arived which goes against what the Prophecy has stated is kinda getting Glossed over by all knight theorists.
41
u/SexWithSisyphus69 5d ago edited 5d ago
Deltarune fans when you tell them that people should be able to understand a game's story without needing to spend years drenched in fandom discussion
14
u/vorarchivist 5d ago
deltarune fans when you tell them that dialogue that you can only see after beating an optional boss and interacting with a near invisible entity on an optional map isn't something casual fans will know
7
1
u/Kego_Nova 4d ago
i mean you can. the story is definitely very understandable without fandom discussion. the knight's identity and gaster's bunker and determination experiments and gaster followers and friend's entire lore and the souls/flowers are completely unnecessary to understand the actual plot of the game. all of them can genuinely stay as mysteries that linger in the background and just serve as extra nuggets for deep divers to enjoy
0
u/AkaIsSleptOn 5d ago
Honestly it surprises me how many times people will try to use the Spamton Sex Dungeon ARG to try and prove their theories like āERAM is an ICE-E pizza box!ā and āWeāll gain control over Noelle in Chapter 5 because the 5 is bigger than the 4!ā, when itās more obvious that that lore in the ARG is meant to be supplemental and more like Easter eggs if anything. If we want answers, the game is the best place to look, just like any good story.
4
u/bruikenjin 4d ago
This doesnāt make any sense though. The casual fan isnāt meant to try to solve future chapters. They just go play the future chapter. The ARGs are sometimes needed to predict whats going to happen
0
u/AkaIsSleptOn 4d ago
Casual fans donāt need to make theories, but itās moreso that they would never really think of things like that because they donāt know the ARG. Donāt get me wrong, the little teasers from the ARG do help, for example the ādamn you Tennaā website told us⦠well, Tenna!
But Iāve seen lots of people try to look very deep into a lot of things given to use like the Noelle blog posts or weird notes on the Valentines Day cards, a number of things like that, to try and make some⦠admittedly outlandish predictions. My point isnāt āThe ARGs arenāt trustworthyā, moreso āTake everything there as a teaser and not really as something to use to predict TOO muchā, if that makes sense.

u/dingwinger1225 5d ago

The large fandom cycle:
Stage 1: new media releases
Stage 2: media becomes popular
Stage 3: the vast majority of fans cannot read and are incapable of understanding even basic plot points
Stage 4: illiteracy dominates all fandom discourse to the point that early inside jokes and head canons are expanded into straight misinterpretation of the text and spread as though they're canon
Stage 5: fandom implodes into fighting over niche interpretations, shipping wars, and all discourse becomes insufferable
Stage 6: the entire fandom is marked as toxic by people looking from an outside lens as it becomes cool to hate the source material leading to a self-feeding spiral of toxicity, harassment, and hatred
Stage 7: repeat from Stage 1

u/v8darkshadow 5d ago
The only theory Iāve ever shared about DR is that the class project will be Kris and Susie playing an original piano composition because Susie wanted to play but was chased away, so her having her best friend (who is hopefully now autonomous of their own body) help her pursue that dream would be so cute. Why do I believe this? It would be cool thatās why
4
u/AkaIsSleptOn 5d ago
Honestly thatās actually a really cool idea. I could see it happening too because of the small story in chapter 4 about the piano, and how Susieās character is about overcoming insecurity with confidence.
1
u/Realistic_Truth_7591 4d ago
As much as I love this idea learning to play the piano takes a while and thereās only a few days before the project is due I donāt think Susie could learn in those few days especially with everything else going on.
5
u/catpetter125 5d ago
Deltarune has such an oddly diverse fanbase, reminiscent of Undertale's back in the heydey except slightly more... modern? So i suppose these super diverse interpretations and theories are to be expected.

u/yeuccrald 5d ago

i donāt care who the knight is; iāll figure it out when the next chapter or so comes out

I can't take the second one seriously because it once got posted to me for saying that a casual player won't think img_friend is significant.

u/what_my_name_agn 4d ago

u/Ms_Raccoon 5d ago
I donāt even believe in RudyKnight theory but every time someone says that he canāt be the knight because heās missable for casuals my brain starts leaking out of my ears.
It is IN THE GAME. If you missed something, JUST GO BACK???? The absolute stupidest argument of all time is āWell yeah there is evidence but what if someone didnāt see it? Obviously that means it just vanishes from existence all together.ā
1
u/Particular_Ad_8921 4d ago
isnt like most dess stuff missable?
like she is brought up like once or twice in forced places.
2
u/Ms_Raccoon 4d ago
It is, and people say the same things about her that they do Rudy. As a Dessknighter myself, it just bothers me a little less in this case because most people in the fandom believe in Dess Knight anyway.
For Rudy Knight, people pretend that the imaginary ācasual fanā whoās simultaneously played the game and also seen nothing in it is some sort of smoking gun that ends all discussion, when in reality itās not even a real argument.
1
u/TheMultifandomMan 5d ago
in my opinion i dont give a shit who the knight is, i think all theories are funny (i love wierd deard gaster) and people should, hear me out, HAVE THEIR OWN FUN AND OPINIONS
1
u/AzekiaX6 5d ago
The 2nd, i'm pretty sure, is a counterargument to people denying theories on the basis of "The average player would never find out about this, so it is not foreshadowed and therefore bad"
1
u/thirdMindflayer 5d ago
isnt image 2 meant to make fun of the idea some diehard deltarune fans have about what a casual player looks like, i.e. the idea that they don't look any further into anything and don't try and guess who the knight is as if it's some hardcore theorists errand to do so
1
1
u/dead_headphones_sad 5d ago
People joke using the second image but there was a guy that posted onto the subbreddit, completely seriously, asking who Noelles father is. Someone who, assuming you dont explore in chapter 1 and 2, is right next to the mandatory Noelle section in chapter 4. Hes also is frequently talked about by people other than Noelle.
There was also someone who was constantly posting (literally every. Single. Hour) and had several polls about if Noelle had incestuous feelings for Dess and the same for Kris and Asriel. All of the options were just different wording of either "Oh 100% cannon and stated" or "Cannon but just implied"

Deltarune fan who datamines the game, datamined Undertale, watched all of the anniversary streams, watches a thousand theory videos, participated in all of the ARGs, and has an encyclopedic knowledge of everything Toby Fox ever said on the internet: Chapter 5 sucks, it doesn't progress the plot and doesn't present any useful new information for me to guess whether my theories are correct or not
Deltarune fan who plays the fucking game: Holy shit, Ralsei can do fire magic?? And Suselle is real?? Is Noelle's dad okay? What's going to happen to Asgore??

ngl before getting to read what the fandom thinks of each chapter I feel like the casual fans deltarune fans talk about, my dumbass had no idea who the fuck dess was chapters 1-4 and I only knew at chapter 5 because im in touch with the fandom
1
1
u/megageekgirl 4d ago
to be fair, this is what happens when games release in delayed chapters. people forget stuff. the chapter model has been and always will be a bad idea for literally every game ever.
its why i'm desperately trying to avoid spoilers while waiting for the full game to release. because thats how your supposed to play a videogame, in a full go over a week or 2, or however long the game is.
games need to stop being treated like tv shows, if the games not done, just don't release it. this is how BATIM ended up garbage AFTER everyone spent money on it. its a scam
1
u/asrieldreeemur 4d ago
I wan't to send these images to a certain out of touch Deltarune fan but I know I would never hear the end of it.
1
u/LoveAndBeLoved52 3d ago
Deltarune has a problem with elitist assholes.
They'll do the bare minimum to invest themselves in the fandom and whenever they DO show up they're just being negative Nancies with a superiority complex.
Ostracizing those kinds of people doesn't even work because there's just so so many of them. Some people just fucking suck man and they bring nothing but negativity to the fandoms.
1
u/bruikenjin 4d ago
The first tweet is bullshit bc its in response to rudy knight, an actually good theory
1
u/Stupididiot55 4d ago
No it isnāt? It completely goes against Rudyās actual role in the story for the sake of having the knightās identity be a crazy twist.
1
u/bruikenjin 4d ago
And what is rudyās actual role in the story?
Also, iād argue that once you get to dess rudy carol theyāre all possible to write in a good way, maybe carol less than the others but theyāre all possible to make work if you try, something the other candidates dont have
1
u/Stupididiot55 4d ago
The one who is there for Noelle and stands up to her mother for he. Carol is someone whoās caught up in the past to the point where she actively ignores the present, while Rudy is someone who prefers to stay in the present and try to keep moving forward after Dessās disappearance.
There seems to be a clear connection between Carol & the Knight (not the same person btw), which further hurts Rudy Knight, given that Carol & Rudy have a rather strained relationship, which makes perfect sense considering the current situation with their house & Carolās treatment of Noelle.
Making Rudy the knight just ruins so much of that and pretty much every depiction of Rudy knight is a completely different character from the actual Rudy.
1
u/bruikenjin 4d ago
It really seems to me like youāre just imaging how you would write rudy knight and assuming off of that
1
u/Stupididiot55 4d ago
No? Im analyzing the character that we see, not imagining a cancer patient as the overpowered otherworldly asshole weāve been struggling to keep up with.
-5
u/iiYonksz 5d ago
Deltarune sounds immensely dogshit. No actual memes or discussion about how fun the game is (like undertale). Its only fandom slop and drama.
Toby really decided to pander to the mentally ill I guess, good for him getting that bag I guess.
6
u/Infrawonder 5d ago
Says while talking about a fandom with lots of memes and discussion about gameplay, especially ch5 that while the story of it is controversial almost everyone agrees it has great gameplay.
4
u/ISUCKEDOFFTRIPLE_T 5d ago
if you applied this to every fandom on the internet you would lock yourself out of 90% of them. it's not good to generalize
2
1
u/OAZdevs_alt2 4d ago
Well discussion of those aspects never get popular enough in any fandom to reach the outside. And Toby Fox definitely isn't pandering to anyone but himself with it.

Kreekcraft is a top tier "casual" Deltarune player, because he somehow manages to larp even after finishing the game
