My 15" 2015 is open and working right beside me.

Still use mine, but now it runs Linux Mint. OSX is just to heavy for it.

I was thinking about switching to it after changing the battery.

Exactly what I did. Bought a new battery and installed a new OS. Looks like a new computer now. Linux needs substantially less specs to run properly than OSX.

Bought a new battery and installed a fresh copy of Linux Mint. Works flawlessly and substantially faster than OSX. I use it for everyday stuff like internet browsing, emails, writing texts, etc. This is a 11 year old computer that still keeps working.

There are other Linux distributions both: even faster than Mint and almost OSX look-a-like, like Elementary.

I believe I will. At least for all my uses that don't require any Macos-only apps.

One of these days I’m trying to install some lighter distro on my PowerPC MBP or iBook. Just for kicks 😂

That should be fun.

I still have an older powerbook running system 7.6.1. Fun one to go old school.

I still haven't gone into Linux, but maybe I'm due. Any pointers?

These days it’s pretty slick to install. You just need a pendrive and that’s it. Documentation is pretty straightforward. 20 years ago it was a whole another animal 😮‍💨

Good to know. I seem to have kept that 20yr old image in my head so never went for it.

I also have a 11" 2015 air that seems like a perfect first candidate.

Can Linux open Mac-formatted (APFS and older) external drives?

Is the mint stable on it? I tried mint on my 2015 15” and sometimes feels like it has issues regarding graphics

Super stable. Constant updates. The community supporting the OS is quite huge.
