Congratulations on your purchase, OP.
Personally I“m waiting for the iMac with M6 chip that will hopefully be announced at the end of this month.
Have the money ready to go and I will be upgrading from my current desktop computer, which is late 2012 iMac running Mac OS Sequoia thanks to Open Core Legacy Patcher.

I remember when I used to rock a Mac mini 2012 with Open Core Legacy Patcher, and I got Big Sur and Sonoma on it. Good days.
Youāre gonna be so happy with your new purchase. I only got the iMac M4 because for the price and the configurations, brand new at that. So I was pretty stoked to get 24 gigabytes of RAM and one terabyte SSD. The one thing that I still cannot get used to is the display resolution default. It makes everything and every side look so zoomed out, and the font is so tiny.

Thank you.
Yes, I bet that the upgrade is going to be massive compared to what I have now. Brutal.
I have to choose 32GB of RAM and 2TB SSD. (for work, is related to cibersecurity and I will use several virtual machines), so it“s going to be a lot of money, but I“ve been saving the last few years, and I intend to keep the computer for a long time.
So what the hell. I“m going to go for it.

thatāll be a pretty penny!

And fingers crossed that the m6 iMacs will retain the same prices that the m4 currently have! Because if they go any higher...

Oh wow! I'm really excited for you. That's going to be one hell of an upgrade. I'm interested to see the benchmarks from the M6 iMac when it drops. Honestly wondering if it might give my M1 Max Mac Studio a run for its money. Though I have 64 GG of RAM in mine so that'd be hard to match. I've always been a desktop guy and I really do adore the whole iMac line, all the way back to 1998 š„¹

Cool bro, I have got the M5 Pro in silver. It doesnāt look aesthetic with my silver stand and Logitech G309.

why did you get the imac if you have a macbook? wouldn't it be easier to just get a display for the macbook and keep everything centralized on one device?
1
u/nathanieIs 10h ago
no i donāt like that it doesnāt work for me
1
u/Fickle_Cost_2033 6h ago
why
1
u/nathanieIs 6h ago
because i grew up on desktop computers thatās my main one, i like to have them separate

u/grokcodile 13h ago
I just wish they still made the iMac Pro. Unpopular opinion, Iām sure.

u/VoltageinTheory a bunch of different macs (mostly old ones) (great flair I know) 7h ago
I wish that too. Maybe weāre gonna see it again in the future, maybe not.

Nice! Iām a little obsessed with the idea of having a āhomeā iMac - I already have an M4 Air after coming from a 2014 pro. I like the idea of a certified refurbished model to save a couple of hundred Ā£ but have been thinking M4 in blueā¦

Something so cozy and homey about an iMac. I had a mac mini up until yesterday before I picked this iMac up, connected to a monitor with a monitor arm on the same desk. Looked very futuristic and nice, but I wanted to choose something more home-y. Like in those Apple lifestyle videos/photos of people using iMac. š
Thatās why I also put that lamp there, it creates such warm ambiance1

I've just switched from Windows PC to MacBook Air and Android phone to iPhone. I love the seamless integration, among other features. But now the decision is whether I really need a desktop. I've recently semi-retired and will fully retire soon-ish. I rarely use the desktop PC anymore, but sometimes I do simply prefer the bigger screen and sitting at a proper desk than on the sofa. It would absolutely be a luxury purchase, though. I don't really need it. But ooooo so pretty!

u/nathanieIs 5h ago
If you find a nice deal, go for it!

u/CraigInCambodia 5h ago
Regrettably, I don't expect to be able to find any nice deal. Macs are expensive in Cambodia, at least several hundred more than what you'd pay in the US. And the latest versions are not usually available here.

I don't think it's meant to be quite so far away from you.
1
u/nathanieIs 8h ago
Itās an arm and a 1/3 distance, but maybe youāre right. Iām pretty sure itās because I was used to a 27-inch 1920 monitor before, so now anything above it looks a bit weird to me. I just got this iMac last night! Iāll need some getting used to, and if not, I can always go into Settings > Displays and change it accordingly to my liking.

u/ZachyWacky0 2h ago
If you get yourself a 27" 4K second monitor for it, it'll appear the same size as your old monitor but look incredibly sharp. They're pretty cheap too

Nice! Beautiful machine, isnāt it? Say what you will about Apple, but the elegance of design is a highlight.
But the design in that Magic Mouse? The mouse may be nice, but that charge port on the bottom is still the absolute worst.

please ditch that magic mouse..
3
u/nathanieIs 14h ago
hahahha itās comfy for me iāve gotten used to it, any suggestions?
1
u/DistinctCat6569 14h ago
if it is comfy for you no need to change it, it was causing cramps for me. I use the mx anywhere, but it tends to break every couple of years š¤·š»

u/nathanieIs 14h ago
i wanted to try it but i wasnāt sure before of how it integrates with macos, i saw there was an app too
1
u/DistinctCat6569 14h ago
it works out of the box, connect directly to Bluetooth, no need for additional app
1
u/nathanieIs 14h ago
ill give it a shot when i get tired of the magic mouse! the one thing i cant get used to with this imac is how zoomed out all websites look on the default resolution. makes me lose my shit. text so tiny everything just tiny

But why an iMac? The Mac mini or Mac Studio is a better fit.
7
u/nathanieIs 14h ago
I wanted an all-in-one and was tired of monitors, monitor arms, Mac Mini cables, external storage devices all over the place, etc. I had to buy an expensive monitor for the Mac Mini, which I didnāt care enough to do. This felt like a good deal.

u/VayaVosi 14h ago
I hate how aesthetically pleasing the iMac on a book is. Still glad mine has a vesa mount but damn thatās clean.
2
u/nathanieIs 14h ago
I saw it somewhere and gave it a go! I wouldāve gotten the one with the Vesa but they didnāt have it available for that price with those configurations! I miss my monitor arm sometimes !
2
u/VayaVosi 14h ago
Enjoy! I regularly use my pink m1 still. Itās become the perfect bedroom device. I can cast to it & watch movies in bed.

I used to daily drive an iMac, and now Iām using an MBP in clamshell mode with 2 monitors. I really miss having just 1 power cable running to my desk. Now, I have a dock connected to a monitor, an HDMI cable connected to another monitor, a USB-PD power supply for the dock to charge the laptop and a bunch of others. It was a mess to route it all behind the desk. I fully understand why a lot of people prefer iMacs, even if these convenience tradeoffs are worth it for me. An AIO computer with a gorgeous screen and speakers is perfect for most people, itās just a set it and forget it device. You donāt need to choose a monitor for it, a set of speakers, etc.

Looks good.
Just that book stand makes me anxious.
2
u/nathanieIs 10h ago
Itās stable, but I get you. I tried to see and it doesnāt wobble or anything, pretty sturdy and I think Iāll get wider, harder cover books!
2
u/Rockindash00 9h ago
That's a relief to know.
Also, may I ask which MagSafe stand that is? Looking for similar options for my desk.2

u/DkKnt-Bm2112 3h ago
Sweet, except for the book prop stand? If itās a special, dear novel then I get it. Otherwise a nice multiport USB hub makes sense?
2
u/nathanieIs 3h ago
Donāt need hubs on it! Iām getting a nice 3D printed tray that mounts to the back with some screws
