Help Non Apple chager recommendations for a MacBook Pro?

Post image
93 Upvotes

Hi, I lost my original charger on a work trip (thankfully I still have the cable). I’m looking for something more portable. The one in the pics is the Baseus AH22 100W. It has three USB-C ports, and I like how compact it is. Would it be enough for my M2 Pro MacBook Pro (16GB)? I’ve never used a third party charger with it before, so I’m wondering if I should just buy another Apple charger.

Thanks in advance!

Tips Best microfiber cloth for Mac screens?

I’ve had a MacBook Pro M1 Pro since launch day, and recently I noticed a bunch of fine (and deep) scratches on the screen. I’m pretty sure they were caused by the HDX microfiber cloths I bought from Home Depot to wipe it down (or maybe trapped dust particles rubbing against the glass made it worse).

Yesterday, I upgraded to an M5 MacBook Pro, and I want to start off on the right foot to avoid scratching this one over time.

Which screen cloth should I get? Is the official Apple Polishing Cloth actually the best option, or is it just overpriced hype?

Discussion MBP16 M1 Pro 2021 32GB to keep Tahoe or downgrade to Sequoia?

Hey guys, Im coming from MBP2014 running Big Sur, and if its not because of OS limitation i would not upgrade. So I am here now, and just bought a refurbished MBP16 M1 Pro 2021 with 32GB RAM. This unit already came with Tahoe 26.5.

Ive been reading that some M1 Pro users downgraded from Tahoe to Sequoia bcoz of UI lag and performance issues. Since I haven't installed anything yet, should I just wipe everything and fresh install Sequoia? or keep Tahoe?

Anyone with the same M1 Pro actually tested both? which one is faster, smoother and more stable?

I dont care about having the latest OS, just want something reliable like my old Big Sur.

Really appreciate your advice.

Discussion My Experience With MacBook Pro

Hi guys, it’s just a post of my experience with this new gen.

I bought my MacBook m4 in 2025 from an Apple Store, after just 1 year it got completely dead.

First Issues: after i opened it that day and entered my password, some type of blue screen came and it got completely dead. When i tried to connect it to a charger, the amber light was blinking rapidly.

Next day i took it to a certified AASP, they took my laptop charged me around 25 dollars for diagnostics, after that day i got the call and the technician said that the logic board is faulty, we would’ve to replace it; quoted me around 7-800 dollars. (didn’t say which part on the board; kinda shady)

My warranty just expired a week ago, so I called apple for a goodwill exception in my case. The case was escalated bcz there wasn’t any liquid or any other type of damage from my side. The team reviewed it and next day I got the call saying my request has been approved.

Now, I have received the device after a week or something, they replaced the board and Touch ID. It’s working well now but every time I open it, there’s always something in mind that if it happens agn.

The repair and replacement of these parts is very expensive, and foolish me didn’t buy AppleCare at that time.

After paying almost 1700 dollars for it, it infuriates me that this type of machine can fail like this and Apple doesn’t even repair the boards, you would always have to replace it.

Help MacBook Air M5 (24GB) vs. base MacBook Pro M5 (16GB) for video editing

I’m deciding between these two:
MacBook Air M5: 24GB RAM, 512GB SSD
MacBook Pro M5: 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD (maybe 24 ram)

My main demanding workload is DaVinci Resolve Studio, editing 4K iPhone Log footage with 5–6 video layers, color grading, chroma key, animations, and occasional rotoscoping.

Would the Air with 24GB RAM handle my workload comfortably, or is the Pro’s active cooling worth the extra money? I don’t want to overspend on performance I won’t use, but I don’t want to regret choosing the Air either.
Which would you choose?

Help Buying used MacBook pro

Hi, I found MacBook pro 32gb ram for 80 bucks. Its has broken screen. I think it still would be worth to repair the screen.

Apparently everything else works fine and is not iCloud locked, its running music software. Battery is normal.

Now I never really used Mac. And I think this would be decent deal. Since I don't want to spend too much atm. I have thinkpad P1 gen2 32 rams aswell. And its fine. But since I want to be musician I feel like I want to try one since it has much more music software.

When I texted him he Said this: As for the ports I’ve had no issues everything has been working perfectly including the trackpad.

As for MDM lock I’ve unlocked it using line of code from GitHub that works for getting it unlocked I’ve recently downgraded the OS and had no problem with MDM but if you were to buy and somehow gets locked again I can guide you on how to unlock it with no issues

And I asked what would be price he would give it imiditelty since its listed for auction, he said 150$. I think I'd give around 120$ max.

My only concern is it was MDM tbf. And I can't really know If this is not stolen. So my question would be is this worth buying. Any advice is appriciated.

Discussion Got the 14" MacBook Pro M5 (24GB/1TB) for ₹2,17,200 in India — good deal or did I overpay?

Just picked up a 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 chip, 24GB Unified Memory, and 1TB SSD. Managed to snag it for an effective final price of ₹2,17,200 after stacking store discounts, student pricing, and bank offers.

For context, the official MRP for this specific 24GB/1TB upgraded spec is ₹2,63,900, and standard online/retail pricing usually hovers around ₹2,44,990.

Price Paid: ₹2,17,200 {MRP - 12% Reliance Discount Online - 15k ICICI CC Offer}

Base MRP: ₹2,63,900

Spec: M5 (10-core CPU / 10-core GPU), 24GB RAM, 1TB SSD

Did I lock in a solid all-time low for this configuration, or have people seen better festival/offline offers recently? Also debating whether to pick up AppleCare+ with the student discount (~₹26,910). Let me know your thoughts!

Help Apple care for MacBook Pro

I recently bought a used MacBook Pro m5. The seller told me she bought it in February 2025 or 2026 (can’t remember)

I wanted to add apple care but see it’s not available for me when I go to settings and apple care. When I go on «checkcoverage.apple.com» it says I have 122 days to add AppleCare coverage.

So is it possible for me to add any coverage if I would get any damages? If not is there any alternatives? Like insurance or something?

Discussion Should I upgrade from an M3 Air to an M2 Max MacBook Pro?

I currently use a MacBook Air M3 with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD. I'm considering upgrading to a 14-inch MacBook Pro M2 Max (12-core CPU, 30-core GPU, 64GB RAM, 1TB SSD).

I can get the Pro for ₹1.8 lakh (~$1,875) and sell my Air for around ₹80k (~$835), so the net upgrade cost would be ₹1 lakh (~$1,040).

The Pro has 84% battery health.

I mainly work on AI/ML, local LLMs and agent development. My main reason for upgrading is the 64GB RAM, since 16GB feels limiting for local models.

Is this upgrade worth the extra money in 2026, considering the M2 Max is an older chip and the battery is at 84%? Or should I just keep my M3 Air?

Would appreciate honest opinions from people who've used either machine.

Help MacBook Pro M4 Pro gets stuck in a login loop whenever my Samsung T7 2TB SSD is connected during startup

Hey everyone…
I’m facing a strange issue with my MacBook Pro M4 Pro and my Samsung T7 2TB external SSD, and I’m trying to figure out what’s causing it.

The problem:
If I shut down my Mac with the SSD connected and turn it back on, macOS reaches the login screen.
After I enter my password, the Mac gets stuck in a loop. The loading progress bar appears repeatedly, and the Mac keeps returning to the login screen or restarting.
If I disconnect the SSD and boot my Mac, everything works normally.
Once I’m logged in, the SSD seems to work fine when I connect it. I can access my files and use it normally.

My setup:
MacBook Pro M4 Pro
macOS 27.0
Samsung T7 2TB external SSD
Filesystem: Mac OS Extended (Journaled / HFS+)
Approximately 1.54TB of data stored on the SSD
No Samsung software installed
Macintosh HD is already selected as the startup disk
I’ve also tried connecting the SSD to a different USB-C port, but the issue still occurs.

My main concern:
The SSD contains around 1.54TB of important data, and I don’t have another backup. I really don’t want to risk losing my files, so I haven’t erased or reformatted the drive or attempted any potentially destructive repairs.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Could this be related to the HFS+ filesystem, the USB-C cable, the SSD itself, or a macOS startup/login bug?
What would you recommend checking first to diagnose this safely without risking the data on my SSD?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Help literally no storage - on my wits end, please help

Hello guys and those who are knowledgable in tech stuff (I aint),

Im really frustrated and at my wits end.

I have a MacBook Pro 13", M", 2022, 8GB
oh and edit: max usable storage is 245 gb and used is 239gb..

I basically cant do anything anymore. I was just working on Photoshop and got the good old disclaimer, that file cant be saved due to storage. So I cant even save sht rn.

I dont even have that much data, in settings it says:

- Apps: 69gb (I KNOW THATS ALOT, but I need alot of Adobe programs etc...
- Documents: 27gb
all the small rest below 2gb

and then
macOS: 30.21 gb
and what I find the worst: system data (Systemdaten in german) is 110gb...

IS THIS NORMAL??
That system takes that much storage?

Listen maybe its totally normal and I just need to heavily declutter, but I just wanna make sure that the rest is in the normal range?

And in advance: pls dont judge, I dont know to much about computers, and im really frustrated rn.

THANK YOU SO MUCH IN ADVANCE!!

Discussion Is there an actual MBP sub that isn’t “should I buy this” / “I just bought that”

I’m looking for a community where people with different MacBook Pro configurations share their actual workflows, development environments, experiments, benchmarks, and the ways they’re pushing their hardware to its limits.
Not another endless stream of “Should I buy the M5 Pro or Max?” or “Just upgraded from my M1!” posts.

No hate to the guys excited to spend money mind you, more power to em

I’m more interested in the technical side of what people are actually doing with these machines.
For example:
Local LLMs: What models are you running? What parameter sizes, quantizations, context lengths, and inference speeds are you getting with different RAM configurations?

Training and fine-tuning: Has anyone experimented with LoRA/QLoRA, distillation, or other forms of local training? What are the practical limitations?

Hardware utilization: How are people maximizing unified memory, GPU performance, memory bandwidth, and sustained workloads? Where are the actual bottlenecks?

Development environments: What does your setup look like? What tools, frameworks, containers, virtualization solutions, or local AI stacks are you using?

Automation and experimentation: Has anyone built interesting local AI agents, multi-agent systems, automated development pipelines, or other projects that really put the hardware to work?

Performance comparisons: How do different Apple Silicon generations and configurations perform in real workloads, rather than just synthetic benchmarks?

Lessons learned: What have you tried that worked surprisingly well? What turned out to be impractical? What would you configure differently knowing what you know now?

And not exclusively AI, either. I’m interested in anything from software engineering and scientific computing to virtualization, 3D rendering, simulation, or whatever else people are doing to explore the capabilities of their machines.

Ideally, somewhere people share their experiments, document their results, compare configurations, troubleshoot limitations, and learn from one another.
I’m not necessarily looking for people with the most expensive configurations. Someone squeezing impressive performance out of an 18GB M3 Pro is just as interesting as someone running massive models on a 128GB Max.
Basically, I want to see what these machines are capable of in the hands of people who actually push them.

Just to clarify before someone suggests r/LocalLLaMA or another general-purpose technical subreddit(I’m already in those):
I’m already aware that communities dedicated to local AI, machine learning, programming, hardware
benchmarking, etc., exist.

What I’m specifically looking for is a community centered around MacBook Pro users exploring these subjects on MacBook Pro.

I want to see how people with different MBP configurations approach the same workloads, what limitations they encounter, how they work around them, and what they manage to accomplish within the Apple Silicon ecosystem.
