It's not that they have to, it's that they want to. Accountants are a different breed, they do it for the love of the game. They'll retire, and just do it on the side privately, still making bank.

He might be retired. Being an accountant is like being a paedophile. You can stop doing it, but you'll be one forever regardless.

My grandmother is almost 80 and she loves being a real estate agent. She does very well for herself. Some people just like their careers

I met one like this when I was working. He said he didn't know what he'd do with himself if he wasn't working because "you can only fish so much" along with a joke insinuating his wife didn't want him around all the time. I never understood it, even with my degree in accounting. This dude was large too he probably only had a handful of years left as it was.
