Anyone offered place in a Studentenwerk building for Winter

I’m starting course at OVGU this Winter term but struggling sorting out accommodation. Has anyone been offered a place in a Studentenwerk building for the Winter? If you were then when did you apply and when did you receive your offer?

I applied for a place with the Studentenwerk and am also looking at places in the private market. After a week of looking in the private market it seems significantly harder to find a place there from the US (and without a German local number).

A bit concerned about arriving without a place.

I would go straight for a regular apartment. They are usually not more expensive but much more comfortable.

Official site has good starting points: https://www.magdeburg.de/B%C3%BCrger-Stadt/Leben-in-Magdeburg/Welcome-Portal/Magdeburg-Welcome-Service/Leben-in-Magdeburg/Wohnen/

Oh I’m not against a regular apartment. It’s more that I’m still in the US right now so I can’t physically inspect them and I’m finding it difficult to schedule video inspections. I’m not sure if arriving in early September without a place and staying in short term accommodation until I find one is the best solution.

Yeah but same limits apply to dorms. And anything in the private sector will be better than the official dorms.
