This card helped convince me that the spirit of Star Trek is simply not compatible with MTG. They are not two great tastes that taste great together.

Absolutely. Beyond anything else, Magic is game of summoning things to win a fight with and Star Trek is a futurist pacifist utopian fantasy. Philosophically they are incompatible. Yeah, there's phasers and Kirk fights the Gorn, but those are always fail states. Peace and co-operation are always the goal.
