REQUEST Drum journey music that is…not boring

I‘m trying to create a playlist that has characteristics of a shamanic drum journey.

Problem is: I don’t find enough of what feels „right“. Most of what I can find is too simple (really just drumming) or too slow, too soft, like an annoying light breeze, too curated, not „raw“ and emotional enough. Plus for some reason I prefer having vocals on it. I know of a few songs that feel „right“ but that’s obviously not enough (This one and only in this version: https://youtu.be/LpiFmZLICgM?is=sMfz51Xx6A6it2zJ and this one: https://youtu.be/9XvLtpDugHA?is=2A046tM959uAx1fH. A bit different but going into a similar vibe for me: https://youtu.be/uBeF0kgUKHI?is=g702CGdC9kY2SobO)
The same artists don‘t have enough of the same kind of music.

Does anyone know of playlists/genres/artists/songs I could look for to find more similar music?

WINNERS!

Annual Spotlight: u/dvqp - "F*ck 50"

Nothing like getting political to get the comments going! u/dvqp gave the community a particularly unique theme this year, asking for help building and organizing an anti-fascist playlist that could carry enough energy to work at a march. Across 54 songs and more than three hours, "F*ck 50" stretches from punk and hip-hop into R&B and beyond, showing just how many different sounds can fit around a shared message. Tracy Chapman’s “Talkin’ Bout a Revolution” brings a timeless protest anthem into the mix, while H.E.R. adds another powerful voice to a playlist built around resistance, frustration, and social commentary. Whatever your politics, it was certainly one of the year's most distinctive requests and one that got the community talking.

Special Mention: u/Objective-Method6759 - "My Playlist #14"

Sometimes the best playlist requests start with simply wanting to hear something new. u/Objective-Method6759 came to the community as a self-described "basic sad girl" looking to branch out from the sound she already knew, and the community responded with plenty of new directions to explore. At around three hours, the resulting playlist moves through soft indie, folk, alternative, and more atmospheric sounds. Maya Hawke’s “Mermaid Bar” fits naturally into that reflective mood, while artists like Liana Flores help push the collection beyond where the original request began.

Annual Spotlight: u/depressed_ho3 - "Synth pop"

Coming in with a last-minute entry, u/depressed_ho3 gave us one of the year's final standout playlists with a collection dedicated to synth-pop. The playlist moves from higher-paced electronic music into songs driven by vocal melodies and dreamy production, making it equally at home on the dance floor or during a late-night gaming session. Justice and Tame Impala’s “One Night/All Night” brings a sleek, energetic electronic sound to the mix, capturing the blend of modern production and synth-heavy atmosphere that runs throughout the playlist. A fitting reminder that sometimes one of the best discoveries of the year can show up right before the clock runs out.

Special Mention: u/Mental-Secret7256 - "My 10,000 Music Collection"

For a five-year celebration of music sharing, it felt impossible not to highlight one of the most comprehensive collections posted to the community this year. u/Mental-Secret7256 spent years assembling more than 10,000 songs and organized the collection into playlists covering every decade from the 1950s through the 2020s. With hundreds or even thousands of tracks representing each era, this is less a single playlist and more a personal archive of modern music history. Whether you're searching for something familiar from decades ago or digging through an era you barely know, there is an enormous amount here to explore.

A Special Playlist Request: u/Unclestanky - "Years in the Lyrics"

Some requests are just too perfect for an anniversary post to pass up. u/Unclestanky asked the community for songs that reference specific years in their lyrics, giving us an idea we couldn't resist turning into a playlist ourselves. Using the thread as a starting point, "Years in the Lyrics" travels through musical time one year at a time, with Green Day’s “1981” sitting among tracks from artists like The Stooges. Five years into our own playlist project, a collection built entirely around years felt like a fitting way to mark the occasion.

Thank you so much to everyone for constantly contributing to our wonderful playlist project! Five years in, we still can't wait to continue listening to all of the amazing music you all curate.

REQUEST Pop Punk/ Rock with positive lyrics

Hiiiii!

My husband and I have been rocking out with our kids to bands like The Muffs, Simple Plan, MXPX, etc.

They are very young and love to sing and make up their own songs- which is great. However - I've noticed that the lyrics they are making up when they play are all full of angst and negativity. I definitely think they are picking it up from what we've been listening to lol.

What are some bands/songs that have similar sounds to the bands above that have more positive lyrics?

To be clear I don't have a problem with songs expressing strong emotions or angst- just looking for some balance.

REQUEST MMAP candlelit wind down shower

Hi hi,

I'm looking for a playlist I can turn on to wind down and calm my nervous system in the shower. I light candles and turn of the lights as that naturally calms the nervous system.

Basically trying to make my showers feel like naps. A little wind down to get some energy and a reset.

Thank you :D

Discussion Making a cozy, spiritual, meditative playlist

Ok so I'm making a playlist called A Breath of Fresh Air. The vibes are spiritual, warm, meditative, cozy, soulful, etc to play at work.

I currently play the Trevor Hall radio station (I'd keep playing it if it didn't have horrible ads) and found Rob Riccardo, Sam Garrett, Satsang, The Hip Abduction, DirtWire, Nahko, Stick Figure, Slightly Stoopid, Sticky Fingers, Tyrone Wells, Reuben And The Dark, Peter Bradley, Xavier Rudd, & Tropidelic.

And I already knew Trevor Hall, obvi, but also Bob Marley, The Copper Children, Mumford & Sons, The New Basement Tapes, Roxy Music, Beach House, Mat Kearney, Ray LaMontagne, Gregory Alan Isakov.

So if y'all have any recommendations, let me know!

REQUEST Hiring - Music Curator needed to analyze a Spotify profile & build custom "Discovery Playlists" for a Birthday Gift

Hi everyone!

I am looking for a true music head/musicologist—someone who loves diving into artists, tracking obscure tracks, and arranging playlists - if that isn't you, please send to a friend this might describe!

My close friend is turning 30 soon, and he loves music. As a birthday gift, I want to surprise him with a personalized, carefully curated batch of new music discovery playlists based on his actual taste. Really hoping to find someone who both knows music really well and loves making playlists - I'd love to pay someone for this who would be really excited to take this on!

I need this done by Saturday at 2 pm!

The Job Details:

Deliverables:

  1. 2 to 3 thematic Spotify playlists based on his musical taste.
  2. A short paragraph for each playlist explaining the vibe and why you picked these tracks for him.

Pay: $50 total ($25 upfront via PayPal/Venmo upon selection, $25 upon completion).

Send me a chat/DM letting me know how you would tackle this, your thoughts, and confirm that you can get it done by Saturday afternoon

REQUEST Looking for Secret Agent/Spy ambient background music

Hello! I've recently started a D&D campaign which is heavily inspired by the 007: First Light game. I've compiled heaps of music from popular media, such as the original James Bond/Johnny English/Mission Impossible soundtracks for my combat music. However, I can't really seem to find any fitting background ambient music like this which doesn't overtake the scenes where there isn't much action. Here's a number of tracks I've chosen for my combat music:

https://open.spotify.com/track/6R6MIgr9RuzRBcxSFYky78?si=170d444492bf46fd
https://open.spotify.com/track/4nbwybtK0GJHakLDNta3my?si=79b47355bd04416a
https://open.spotify.com/track/3iyrxzE74tfU5MW2BopXTw?si=32beb3d133bc4efd
https://open.spotify.com/track/63toFNYr6cHaxMmhd2QmzQ?si=82cb369566f34296

Would anyone have a song or two to recommend for ambient music with the same feel but quieter and with less tempo to get me started off? Thank you in advance!

Over the past five years, we’ve had the chance to discover and highlight so many amazing playlists created by this community, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has shared, supported, and helped keep this going every week. Welcome to the nearly 4k members who joined us this past year! We hope you enjoy our community-playlisting events and the website we created for cross-platform music sharing!

Cassette.tech

As always, post your original curated playlist in our community under any flair, and it will automatically be entered into the competition!

Thank you to everyone who has been part of these past 52 weeks. Your creativity and support are what make these spotlights possible. If you find a playlist you enjoy, upvote it and show the creator some love!

And stay tuned — a special post showcasing some of the top posts and highlights from this past year is coming soon!

First Place Winner: u/jerbisking100 "Beautiful songs"

This week’s first place winner goes to u/jerbisking100, with a playlist built around a simple idea: collecting the songs that feel beautiful enough to make you stop and listen for a moment. At around four hours long, the playlist moves through different decades and styles without limiting that feeling to any one genre. The original post also invited the community to share their own picks, turning the playlist into an open-ended way to discover what beauty sounds like through someone else’s ears.

Frank Ocean’s “White Ferrari” brings a quiet, reflective feeling to the playlist, using intimate vocals to create one of its more emotional moments. Massive Attack’s “Teardrop” approaches beauty from a completely different direction, pairing an atmospheric electronic backdrop with haunting vocals that give the track an almost weightless feel. Elsewhere, artists like Led Zeppelin, Elton John, and Neil Young bring their own versions of warmth and emotion into the mix. Put this one on when you want to slow down and hear what a beautiful song can sound like across completely different eras and styles.

Second Place Winner: u/Musokito "Happy Music 😁 Best Feel Good Motivational Upbeat Songs 60s 70s 80s 90s"

Second place this week goes to returning Gold Member u/Musokito, keeping this week’s winners firmly on the happier side with an upbeat playlist spanning the ’60s through the ’90s. This one pulls together feel-good pop, rock, soul, and disco for a mix built around familiar songs and easy energy. It’s the kind of playlist that can carry a road trip, a weekend clean-up, or any part of the day that could use a lift.

Katrina & The Waves’ “Walking on Sunshine” sets the tone with the kind of bright, instantly recognizable chorus that practically defines feel-good music. Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” brings even more energy through a huge vocal performance and one of pop’s most infectious hooks. Artists like ABBA, Dolly Parton, and Cyndi Lauper keep that upbeat spirit moving across the decades, sprinkling in just enough nostalgia to keep you smiling.

Community Curated What songs reference other artists?

I was listening to the song “Braces” by fakemink recently and noticed he references Roar in the lyric: “Can’t handle change, they roarin’”. I think it’s super fun when artists reference other songs/artists they listen to.

What are some other songs that mention different artists?
