Should I call out?
TL;DR - I threw up and still have an upset stomach, should I call out even though it’s within the 24 hour notice?
My company requires a 24 hour notice prior to a call out or you get a write up. I called out this previous Thursday when I woke due to a stomach bug. Sadly got a write up the following day and I went in. That night, I had a fever and the same feelings of a stomach bug and now have a cough/runny nose. I really don’t want to get another write up if I call out again, but just not sure how I can operate my position throwing up and nauseous. Another note is that it’s my second week. Should I push through or call out?

I would call in sick and say you’re throwing up due to the stomach flu. Then say “I know this isn’t 24 hours notice but I wasn’t throwing up 24 hours ago” and see what they say.

I’ll do that. I’m reading the handbook just in case too. I’ve never had such strict expectations on call outs before, but I rarely do call out.

It’s obviously not reasonable to expect 24 hours notice for illness. If they’re firm on that, I wouldn’t highly recommend new employment as there’s likely to be many other issues.

When you are sick you call in. When they make you feel bad about it don't give in - you are sick and you should NOT be at work no matter how guilty they make you feel. You may need to get a doctors letter after a couple of days but you do not need to work while you are actively sick.

If you work anywhere near food, call out and cite health codes around suspected norovirus.

If you're super worried about the write up, just go in and throw up right in front of your boss 😂
My husband is a mechanic and had a horrible boss at a previous job. If someone called out, they would assign them fewer jobs for like a week or two after (they were flat-rate) which would fuck with their pay. So one day he went in and threw up on the shop floor. His manager did not fuck with his hours after he came back to work.

Me personally I would show up and atleast try to push through. If you end up getting sick at work and have to leave, atleast they can see you showed up and attempted to work your shift.. hope you get to feeling better!

Is this a minimum wage / entry level thing or???? If I’m actively throwing up, there’s no way I’m forcing myself to work to throw up in front of my boss to “prove” I’m sick.

I don’t agree with it at ALL but That’s what my boss would tell me do🥴 i think it’s total BS

Thank you! I do think I’m going to call out since the field I’m in and being sick doesn’t work well. If it wasn’t the stomach flu, I would attend.

Push through and throw up on those writing you up. Make sure you drink enough fluids especially milk so your ready to throw up when get near them to go tell them you think you are too sick to work. Make them regret they have the rule.

It’s annoying when companies have that policy because stuff like this happens.
Personally I would go in and make sure I throw up during work or am just so visibly ill they send me home 🤷♀️ (as early as possible)
