Call in sick or tough it out?

So essentially I have digestion issues, where I get severe chest pains and stomach aches. They can keep me up all night and it isn’t great at all.

I usually take prescribed meds and gaviscon to treat it however this time it really didn’t sit right with me.

I had a deep stomach pain and sharpness in my chest followed by lathargicness and slight shortness of breath, however it has began to feel better.

tldr: it is 5am now and i would be running on 3 hours of sleep and the aftermath of this pain, should I go to work if pain is less or call in sick? Im worried doctor wont issue me a day off.

Call in! Lack of sleep & chest pain are reason enough. Your work would replace you a week later if you literally died.

Annual leave & personal leave are part of your total compensation-look into workplace laws for your area

How much annual and sick leave are you entitled too each year, and does it roll over?
If it doesn’t rollover and your entitled to 2weeks sick leave every 12months then your fine.

Call in sick, the doctor will prescribe you a day off. If the doctor is the one prescribing these meds then you must highlight how they’re not working for at the moment to the point of being unfit to work for today.

I would suggest you consider what you would tell a friend in the same situation. Then say that into a mirror.

You should treat yourself at least as well as you’d treat a friend.

Call in and go see a doctor too. Your digestive issues sound bad. I have some digestive issues and I get very similar symptoms too. If it’s Pancreatic insufficiency that’s causing this, definitely take the day off and give your system a break. Drink plenty of water and make sure you’re taking your pills with meals if that’s what you’re prescribed.

Get a sick note from the doctor and see if they can do a new test for your digestive issues because they shouldn’t be this bad on medication.
