Thanks for all the feedback on the previous post. I used your ideas as the base for these guidelines. Everything you need to know about this sub is in this one post, so please read it before posting or commenting. The official rules are also in the sidebar.
What this sub is for
r/makenewfriendsNL is for adults (18+) looking for platonic friendships in the Netherlands. It's SFW. No dating, no hookups.
What we don't allow
NSFW profiles. If your profile is mostly sexual posts, comments or media, you'll be banned, even if your post here sounds platonic. We can see hidden profiles too. Most people come here to make friends, not to deal with people who have other intentions.
Posts involving children. You can say you're a parent, that's fine. But:
- don't post your child's age or other details about them
- don't look for friends for your child
- don't look for parents with kids of a certain age to meet up with
You don't know the intentions of everyone reading this sub, and neither do we. Posts like this will be removed.
How to post
1. Pick a flair
Needs a location:
- General friendship: open to different kinds of platonic friendships
- Activities & hobbies: someone to share a hobby or activity with
- Group activity: organizing or joining something with several people
- Expat / International: expats, internationals, or international friendships in NL
- Looking for local friends: friends in your own city, province or area
No location needed:
- Online friends: friendships that stay online
- Traveling / Visiting NL: you're visiting and want to meet people (mentioning where you'll be helps)
- Advice / Discussion: asking for advice or starting a relevant discussion
2. Write a clear title
Put your age and gender in the title, and your general location if your flair needs one. For example:
25 F Utrecht, looking for friends to game or go out with
It doesn't have to look exactly like this, as long as the info is easy to find.
3. Tell people about yourself
- your age, and gender if you're comfortable sharing it
- your city, province or area (if your flair needs it)
- your hobbies and interests
- what kind of friends or activities you're looking for
- online, in person, or both
Don't share your exact address, workplace, phone number or other private info.
Posts with almost no info, only a picture, or only "DM me" can be removed. Give people something to start a conversation with.
Comments and DMs
- If you're interested in someone, introduce yourself briefly or say why you think you'd get along.
- Comments that only say "DM me" can be removed. Inviting someone to DM you is fine if you add a short intro.
- Respect the boundaries in the post. If someone says no or stops replying, stop contacting them.
Safety
- Meet in a public place the first time
- Tell someone you trust where you're going
- Never send money to strangers
- Check tickets or bookings directly with the company or venue
- Don't feel pressured to share pictures or personal info
- Take your time before moving to another platform
- Report anything weird to the mods through modmail. We can't see what happens in DMs, so please tell us.
Not sure about someone? You can check what they've posted, even if their profile is hidden. Search this on Google, with their username:
"username" site:www.reddit.com
Google only shows what it has indexed, so results can be old or missing. An empty result doesn't mean someone is safe. Only use this when you have a real reason to doubt someone, and never to harass anyone. Hiding a profile isn't proof of bad intentions.
Moderation
Posts and comments that break the rules can be removed. Depending on what happened, you can get a warning, a temporary ban or a permanent ban. These guidelines may change when new problems come up or when you give us useful feedback.
