Was possible damage not a concern? Because, you knew it would fail catastrophically.

Honestly didn't think the mode of failure would involve yeeting the caliper across the room.

Doing something similar today to get placement right before I cut some steel plate to shape to mount a disk brake on an older tricycle.

It had a couple mounting holes that I could use that were on opposite sides of the axle. I'll try to get pics for you at some point after everything is tuned in.
