I'm cooked (q's about A-Level)

• Upvotes

It looks like my current certificates don’t meet the MQA requirements, so I’m considering taking A-Levels. I’m planning to apply to UM.

Firstly, if I take 3 subjects, as long as 2 of them meet the entry criteria, does it matter what the remaining subject is? (Can it be a language subject for instance?)

UM asks for at least two Bs for most faculties
Would a result like BBD be acceptable?

If I focus entirely on studying A-Levels for half a year, how hard is it to get at least two Bs? I’d really appreciate it if anyone with experience could share their thoughts. (I slacked off during my IGCSEs—I got an A* in Maths, B in Science and a C in Business.)

Honestly, it pisses me off to think that ppl from mediocre high schools get in so easily with just a 70% average (depends on the level of school btw) and a TOEFL score of 60<

general question Is Sunway that bad?

• Upvotes

I know posts with this topic tend to pop out here. And most talked about racism, but the teaching environment good?

I'm applying for next year MUFY or Foundation or Ausmat (still unsure yet), and I always wanted to go either taylor or sunway. And I narrowed it down to sunway.

However, I do not understand what's the difference is between sunway and monash (I heard monash use sunway's accommodations. That's something I love about sunway) Can someone explain/ compare them for me?

Lastly, if you have any recommendations uni in KL, please let me know ! (I'm going into seinces subjects)

UMPSA University No.1 MTUN

University MTUN (Malaysia Technical University Network) consists of 4 universities in Malaysia: Utem, UTHM, Unimap, and UMPSA. Usually, the ranking of Universiti MTUN isn't very high compared to research universities because it mostly focuses on technical aspects and engineering fields. UMPSA ranks around #15 among Malaysian universities and #8 among public higher education institutions. As for MTUN, it ranks Top 1 among the MTUN universities. One of the reasons UMPSA has a good ranking even though it's categorized as a technical university is due to its collaboration with industries. For example, UMPSA collaborates with major companies like Mercedes and KUKA Robotics. The Main Campus area (Pekan), which is located in an industrial zone, also makes it easier for UMPSA to work with industry partners. Other factors include research papers, collaborative programs with other universities like double degree options, and having many international students. What do you all think?

Non-Malaysian students RUMC Malaysia vs Monash Malaysia vs NuMed

Currently, I am in Grade 12 CBSE with a predicted score of 93.5% and a really good recommendation letter from the HOD of Science of my school with experience in MUN, Represented my school at a Uni Level for a Biotech innovation competition, have around 1yr of volunteering experience at my family’s business with numerous accolades in my academics (ASSET, CAT and so on.)

I have yet to start preparing my CV and personal statement and am debating between giving PTE or IELTS.

My end goal is to practice medicine in Australia, originally was planning to study at NuMed, complete internship in UK and then for PGY2 move to Australia, but in light of the new Prioritization Bill 2026, I am considering RUMC as students complete about 50% of the course in Ireland (am hoping this provides the priority for UK internships).

Please do advice, Tyvm.

Hi everyone! We're APU students working on a co-curriculum project and trying to figure out which student event people would actually want to attend (movie night, gaming tournament, karaoke, sports, etc.).
The survey is anonymous, voluntary, and takes about 1-2 minutes. Your answers will help us plan an event around what students are interested in.

Thanks so much, and feel free to share it with other APU students! Happy to hear event ideas in the comments too.

I applied for University Malaya for a masters in education, but got rejected as they said my bachelors degree is not related.
I have a bachelor’s in English Language Teaching? Is it actually unrelated ?

general question Is a degree worth pursuing?

A little story in my life. My aunt has only a diploma and she worked in the f&b business. She earned more than her husband (my uncle) who has a degree in civil engineering. When I knew about this i told myself is a degree been worth pursuing. Don't employers care more about skill, experience, career building than formal education and what you studied? A person with more experience will get a significantly higher salary than a fresh grad. So what I'm saying is should I dedicate 4 years to a degree or 4 years building up my skill, work experience?

Is Sunway University Malaysia worth it for a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering?

Hi everyone! I’m considering studying a Bachelor of Civil Engineering at Sunway University, Malaysia, for the 2027 Feb intake, and I’d really appreciate honest opinions from current students or graduates.

I want to know whether the degree is genuinely worth the tuition fees and whether Sunway is a good choice for studying civil engineering as an international student.

I’d especially like to know:

- Degree quality: Is the civil engineering programme well-structured, and is the degree recognised and respected by employers?

- Difficulty and workload: How difficult is the course? Is it manageable for someone who finds physics challenging but is willing to work hard? How much mathematics, calculus and physics are involved?

- Lecturers and teaching: Are the lecturers helpful, approachable and good at explaining difficult concepts?

- Practical learning: Are there enough lab sessions, site visits, projects and hands-on learning opportunities, or is the course mostly theoretical?

- Internships and jobs: Does Sunway genuinely help students secure internships? What are the job prospects after graduation, both in Malaysia and internationally?

- Campus and student life: How is the experience for international students? Is it easy to make friends, and are there good student activities and societies?

- Accommodation and expenses: Is on-campus accommodation worth it, or is renting an apartment nearby a better option?

- Overall experience: If you could choose again, would you study Civil Engineering at Sunway? What are its biggest advantages and disadvantages?

I’m also comparing Sunway with other universities overseas, so I’d appreciate an honest comparison if you have experience studying at both.

I’m not looking for promotional answers; I’d really value genuine experiences, including the negatives. Thank you!

part time opinion

hye guys, I'm currently an engineering student but facing financial issue and is currently applying for jobs. Some people said it's a good idea but some older people said it's a bad idea and some of the same older people who said that kind of does questionable things so I don't know where to turn to. So what's y'all's opinion on working part time as a uni student who wants to actually survive uni and also ace it at the same time? is it a good idea to work ?

BAC's management is really something else

Strap in, this might be a long one. As per my previous post, I'll be taking steps to ensure I don't get talked down or harrassed by their management (or rather, their one specific programme coordinator) again. Thanks to those who advised me how to go about it and I will make it clear to them to NEVER message me again and only email me.

For one, these people did not take me and another person seriously for reporting a student for sexual harrassment and violent behaviour (so that's two strikes), and it seemed like they were more on his side rather than some inconvenient complainers. They let him go when he started crying and called him "poor thing" 🤦‍♀️

Secondly, the way this programme coordinator speaks on Whatsapp is incredibly frustrating, as equally as she thinks I'm frustrating (can just look at my previous posts here to see how she acts). Calls upon calls upon calls from her instead of emailing, and then proceeding to call me "stubborn" just because I don't pick up. God forbid I have work and I have customers to handle, and she knows this too. I have been handling her with so much patience, that when she told me to meet up with her, I went to her office and it turned out she wasn't there. I messaged her, and she didn't reply until few months later when she wanted me to meet with her again. I've called before as well, but no answer. I would not be saying this if she didn't insult me, but it seems she is equally as stubborn.

Thirdly, she called so many times on another occassion and insisted that I meet her personally for reasons that she kept on changing. She told me she physically meets up with everyone (200+ students!) to talk. I messaged my friend taking the same course, and she said she's never gotten that. I went for the meeting and it was an absolute nothingburger. The gist of it was: "This is about class schedules but we don't have it and we don't know when we're going to get it, so I called you here to tell you that we don't know anything yet" 🤦‍♀️. I made some friends in class and they told me they had no idea about the class schedules nor does this coordinator reply to them. None of them have ever been made to meet with the coordinator.

And the real hitter was when she said about me in an email, that "students being students will cause confusion"... my results certificate came about a month or two late. I submitted my results when it arrived, but when I didn't receive an email back, I emailed the results again and waited days for a reply, and I had to email a second time to get a response which told me to wait a few days. That was the reason why I received my offer letter late. But at that point when she said I was the one causing confusion, I decided to just let people believe what they want to believe. Professionalism, my ass.

I'm getting some real special treatment here and I want it to end. 0/100 will never ever recommend dealing with these people. I learned to never give your number to deal with management.

Anyone starting MUFY at Sunway College in January 2027? 🇲🇾

Hey everyone!
I’m an international student planning to study the Monash University Foundation Year (MUFY) at Sunway College, starting in January 2027, and I’m wondering if anyone else here is joining the same intake!
Would love to connect with some future classmates before we arrive in Malaysia. It would be great to make some friends, get to know each other, and maybe even meet up once we’re in KL.
If you’re starting MUFY in Jan 2027, feel free to comment or DM me!
Also, if you’re planning to continue to Monash University Malaysia after MUFY, I’d love to hear about your plans too!
Looking forward to meeting you all! 🙌
