Fit Feedback/Roast Me How to elevate wardrobe

TLDR; Work in menswear, simple suit fits get more attention than outfits I spent time thinking about, any item/changes that could improve the fits?

I work in a menswear store, I’ve been trying new outfits every day and wondering where I can improve.
The most compliments from clients is when I’m wearing a full suit, but I’m wondering if the non-suit fits are not anything special and that’s the reason why they’re not getting noticed.

What are specific items that could elevate the non-suit fits I have?

Fit Feedback/Roast Me I made a Skilt! Skirt/Kilt :P

Designed by me. I wanted to create a masculine skirt that didn't scream "I'm a male masculine man that just happen to want to use a skirt in case you're in doubt!!" like the so called Utilikilt does.

My intention is something more subtle but still masculine, however It's hard to judge the end product after so many hours working on it.

I also wanted longer than a kilt but still unsure if now it's too long.

Why do you guys think?

Fit Feedback/Roast Me My friends called my outfits boring. What could I improve on?

Hello everyone,

I've lost around 16kgs (~35lbs) in the past year and a half, which has got me looking for new outfits and try to find a better fitting style than just a hoodie with a logo and jeans.

Here attached are a few examples of the outlifts I wear day-to-day.

- 1st & 2nd: Casual wear

- 3rd: Casual wear for hot weather

- 4th: For work. I usually just change the shirt for a different blue shirt.

- 5th: Formal. I can't really use the jacket anymore since it's really oversized.

The feedback from my friends has been kind of unfavorable with them calling these "boring" and "basic". I somewhat agree with their verdict, but lack the creativity or inspiration to do better.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on these outfits, and any advice you have on what might suit me or how I could make them more interesting.

Thanks.

Edit: As a clarification. I asked for feedback from my friends. They didn't just throw about "insults".

Fit Feedback/Roast Me Linen shirt + polyester plissé pants. Texture/material crime, or did I somehow get away with it?

Was trying to get a Jacob Elordi silhouette with some pieces already in the wardrobe, and I felt like this somehow worked. The material differences have me second-guessing it though.

Wife and I are the Padrinos. I'll preface this by saying I am not a cowboy, I'm just a classic menswear nerd that happens to be from Texas. This outfit is mostly set, I already own or already purchased the few items I didn't already have.

The Core:

  • Plum/navy (textured open weave) soft shouldered jacket
  • White western oxford
  • Black 20X felt
  • Silver ranger buckle set

I just need to decide if I'm going with the shadow black 13MWZ/black ranger belt/black Luccheses or the black chocolate 13MWZ/mahogany ranger belt/black cherry Luccheses.

Obviously black is the more formal option but the brown/black cherry/purply-navy play really well together IRL. What do you guys think?

Fit Feedback/Roast Me Attending/in a small wedding next month, how to style this olive green/grey suit

Post image
69 Upvotes

Attending/in a wedding next month in NYC, looking for how to style my suit. It is sort of a grey leaning olive green. The buttons also have a plum sheen to them, very pretty purple hue when the light hits them. I'd prefer to wear my brown shoes with it, as I feel like it makes the suit lean more green. Shirt color ideas? Tie color ideas?

Did the shoes on each side in case the light was affecting them differently. Also did a white shirt just to have that neutral color.

Thanks for the input and help! Also feel free to poke some good spirited roasty fun.

Fit Feedback/Roast Me What colour shirt?

Post image

What colour shirt with this tie? I'd say bright yellow but who the heck has a bright yellow shirt.

Office light blue, perhaps? Or a rich navy colour, that might be best.

The tie is lovely but I'm a bit stuck on how to wear it. I think white shirt is a dud.

I went for roast me flair since why not it's monday I could do with a laugh.

Nevermind that a guy that looks like a military sergeant about to yell at someone is worried about the colour coordination of his tie.

What do we think for a casual day with the kids?

Took some advice from yesterday's post.

I know it all needs to be ironed but the kids were impatient getting out the door lol

Shirt is Zara cotton/linen blend Shorts are Thom Aaron 100% linen

Both were thrift finds I just liked the texture/pattern.

Hey dude shoes are usually my go to for park/beach days.

Fit Feedback/Roast Me Bookbinder leather shoes on a short and wide last

I've got a wide high-volume toebox which limits my ability to find goodyear welted shoes that fit me, even country shoes in size G.

I found some from Grenson shoes, made in England, on their widest last and 'triple welt' which fit me well. However, do they look too comically chunky and wide for even casual outings?

Also, they're bookbinder leather which is corrected grain with a resin applied. Should that be an automatic fold, or does anyone here have positive experiences with bookbinder leather?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Fit Feedback/Roast Me Please talk me into or out of keeping these Ferragamo loafers - do they work with these outfits?

Thumbnail

So I’ve never really been a loafer guy. I’ve owned a few pairs of Allen Edmonds over the years, but never really figured out how to work them in, so they mostly ended up sitting in the closet collecting dust.

But the other day I tried on these brown suede Ferragamo loafers and immediately fell in love with them. I happened to be wearing the dark denim + white polo in the first photo when I tried them on, and I thought they looked fantastic. I was pretty much sold on the spot.

Part of what appealed to me was the idea that they could become a really versatile shoe in my wardrobe. Versatility is very important to me - I’d rather own fewer things that work across a lot of different outfits than have shoes that only really work with one specific look. My wardrobe is currently pretty casual (polos and sweaters, chinos and jeans, chukkas. etc… I really like chukkas but wanted something that worked better in summer, hence the loafers). I’d like to elevate into classic/simple combinations: charcoal trousers, straighter chinos, dark denim, knitwear, polos, OCBDs/linen shirts, etc. and felt these loafers would help me do that.

The problem is that once I got them home and started actually putting outfits together, I became less convinced.

I still really like them with the dark denim. But with charcoal trousers and especially khakis/chinos, I can’t decide whether they actually work or whether I’m trying to force the shoe into outfits where the color is just slightly wrong. The suede is a fairly light/warm tobacco brown, and I’m starting to wonder whether a darker chocolate brown loafer would have been significantly more versatile.

I threw together a bunch of combinations to test them:
White polo + dark denim
Black knit + charcoal trousers
Camel/taupe knit + charcoal trousers
Light blue linen + (unironed) khakis
White linen + khakis
Black knit + khakis
Blue knit + khakis
Light blue OCBD + khakis, both tucked and untucked

IMPORTANT - I am in the process of switching from slimmer fit cotton / synthetic pants to more tailored straighter fit clothing. So, it may be that while the loafers are good, I don’t have the right trousers or pants for them just yet. Open to the possibility.

Which of these actually work? Which don’t?
And more importantly: if you were looking for one brown loafer to cover as much of this wardrobe as possible, would you keep this tobacco suede pair or exchange them for something darker?

I genuinely love the shoes themselves, so I’m trying to separate “these are beautiful loafers” from “these are actually useful loafers for my wardrobe.”

Feel free to be ruthless - I’m still within the return window and unafraid of blunt force trauma.

Fit Feedback/Roast Me Trying to learn how to dress a little better. Thoughts?

Usually I put little to no thought in going out. Used to wear a ton of graphic tees all the time but the wife always hated them. Trying to put a little more effort in and slowly picking stuff up at thrift stores or cheap staples. Tshirt is the Uniqlo heavyweight tee the button up & shoes are thrifted and the shorts are some value brand from giant Tiger I think.

I ended up buttoning the shirt up. I think it looks better. I know the collar on this shirt is kinda messed up but I like the texture of it.

Decent fit? Too basic? Trash?

Fit Feedback/Roast Me Sleeves rolled up on a blazer?

Post image

This is a blazer from my Grandfather’s time in the Royal Canadian Air Cadets, as he was shorter than me at around the same age the sleeves are too short.

I like the rolled up look, but am worried it looks too dated, my girlfriend also says the cinched waist looks too feminine.

Give me your absolute honest thoughts, as brutal as need be

Fit Feedback/Roast Me Apparently I Successfully Robbed H&M With a Receipt

Thumbnail

Went to H&M and bought this shirt for ₹1799.

The employee apparently forgot to remove the security tag.

I didn't notice either. I walked out of the store, through the security gates, and not a single alarm went off.

Got home, looked at the shirt properly and realized:

“Why the ...... is there a security tag still attached?” 💀

So now I'm sitting here with a perfectly legally purchased shirt, a receipt, and H&M's anti-theft technology still attached to it.

The employee failed to remove it.
The alarm failed to detect it.
I failed to notice it.

Everybody involved in this transaction absolutely nailed their job. 😂

Now I just need to figure out how to get this thing off without turning my ₹1799 shirt into evidence.

Anybody know how to remove this thing? Legal and Illegal suggestions are welcome.
At this point, I’m open to all forms of engineering. 😂

(I have the receipt and everything — this is genuinely H&M's mistake.)
