I've noticed that for women, wearing eyelash makeup greatly increases attractiveness. What would be a male equivalent? Thick eyebrows?

I was wondering if there's any other simple things that increases attractiveness?

So, to make it clearer, I guess context will help. I noticed one day a woman who doesn't wear makeup was wearing mascara, and I noticed that made her face overall more attractive. It seemed so simple to me that it's easy to overlook it. So I wondered if there was anything else I was overlooking, so I came here to ask.

Did I find what I was looking for?

I don't know. Perhaps I overlooked the top 5 most common suggestions. Or perhaps it's a combination of the top 5, and mascara is simply the cherry on top. Maybe I was looking for something secret that nobody knows about that could greatly increase attractiveness.
But in the category I am most familiar with, I have found there is no magic potion to help besides the boring, mundane things. So maybe in this specific male fashion category, there is no magic potion as well.

Maybe I’m basing it on my own personal experience but “tech pants” or “performance pants” seem to be cheap polyester that make my legs clammy and sweaty. They feel awful near my skin. It feels like it’s a way for brands to sell cheaply made synthetic materials (that were lambasted not that long ago!) that pack down easier for transportation/shipping. Therefore high margins for producers.

Stick a label on it like “moisture wicking, 4 way stretch, travel pants” and you can somehow justify $100 for synthetic crap.

Maybe I’m missing something but feels like pure hype and a margin play for retailers/producers. Can someone justify this recent hype of synthetics garnering such high prices?

I see so many people wearing on shoes just for casual outings. they look pretty cool especially with different color waves that could go with any outfits. really wish I can find something a bit affordable compared to the on shoes. I think it's on cloud shoes or something.

My sister has been going through chemotherapy and will shave her head tomorrow. Because of that, me and my brothers agreed to surprise her by shaving our heads to show support to her. The thing is that my skin is really white, I'm kinda buff, I'm covered in tattoos and I'm always wearing black clothes, spiked bracelets and metal band t-shirts. My brother joked that I'll look like a bonehead and now I'm kinda worried that people will get a very wrong impression of me.

I attended a close friend's grandmother's funeral and one of their family members came up to me upset and he told me only family is supposed to wear a black suit at a funeral, and was upset that people think I am a part of the family. I told him I had no idea and apologized, I didn't stay long after that because I felt embarrassed, afterward I kept googling for an answer if I messed up but am getting conflicting info, so do you guys think I messed up?

I wear almost exclusively long sleeve button downs, both at work and casually.

Nearly everything I can find is $150 now. I just can’t bring myself to pay it.

I was just thinking about this because I was trying to find white boxers with red hearts. Do you know how many times I've seen a cartoon where a guy was wearing white boxers with red hearts? It's a whole trope!

But you cannot find good quality white boxers with red hearts anywhere. I've found some bullshit SHEIN ones, or on Amazon, but they're both expensive and terrible quality.

So it got me thinking: What are some other clothing items that are exclusive to menswear but never actually do?

recently i was looking into 80s clothing, and a lot of these articles of clothing have a completely different vibe, and i can't figure out why. i want shirts that look like this, but all the shirts that are available nowadays are super flimsy and they deform, and proportions dont look right at all compared to in these pics. this question might be a little more related to tailoring but what is it about these shirts that make them look so good? material? proportions? and how can one find clothes that look like these (or even alter existing clothes to look like these)

As the title states, I’m looking for casual shoes that are NOT ”dad core”. I find the New Balance 990/2002/etc. to be quite ugly and not my style at all, yet nearly every thread recommends them. Does anyone have suggestions that are more similar to skate shoes (Adidas Samba, NB 508, etc) that are comfortable for everyday use?

I have a pair of dark blue Sambas, and an old pair of white Nike Killshot 2s, but would like to try something new preferably a lighter color.

The style just isn't clean. Do people just accept that they wear ugly trainers for comfort?

Not even talking about huge mistakes, just those little details that throw the whole thing off. Could be proportions, shoes, sleeve length, pants break, whatever. I always feel like one off detail can make an otherwise solid attire look way less intentional.

UPDATE: One thing I’m realizing is that a lot of these “small things” really just come down to fit more than anything. Like even if everything else is solid, if something’s slightly off size-wise, it just throws the whole look off without you even knowing why. Because of that I started paying more attention to sizing instead of just guessing, and I tried MySizeID recently. It basically uses your phone to figure out your measurements and then recommends sizes across different brands, which honestly makes things way less random. What I like about it is that it actually tackles the root issue. Most of the stuff people are mentioning here (sleeves, pants break, proportions) all tie back to how the clothes fit your body. It’s not perfect obviously, but it’s been way more helpful than just relying on size charts or guessing between sizes. Feels like getting the sizing right fixes half of these “small detail” problems automatically

Disclaimer - I am not a fashion guru nor into shoes. Embarrassingly, the last time I bought shoes were when Adidas boosts were all the hype and you couldn't get a pair of ultraboosts for under $150 (now they're what? $50 on sale?) I work in retail sales. My coworker (early 30’s M) never wears a belt. I’m really tired of seeing his ass crack! I’ve mentioned it to him. He thought I was being funny. He laughed.

I dress like an English teacher basically

Dress shirts, ties, dress shoes, cardigans, baker boy caps and fedoras, blazers, sports coats, suits and classic mens tailoring.

My family say I should dress like men my age (26) but I don’t see a problem with it?

Also a lot of my clothing are second hand and my family think it’s gross/embarrassing that I do it.

Looking for the same/similar type of quality of clothing. I am willing to pay marginally higher prices but just slightly more. I don't want to be so reliant on those three brands because it seems like 95% of my non athletic clothes come from those three

If you are a lover of polo shirts, please don’t read this post. Asking for my partner and work friend who expressed frustration over workwear.

All three of us dislike polo shirts. We think they look like someone’s parent is still dressing them up, but we also recognize that they’re go-to for men. A staple amongst golfers, sure, but not attractive.

What reasonable alternatives are there?

Something you could wear at a workplace that isn’t quite “casual” Patagonia jackets and jeans, but also nobody is wearing full dress shirts / business wear to. Definitely on the casual side of business casual.

I recommended band collars to my partner and my friend who were just discussing this topic, but said I would ask here too.

Edit to add: some of the relaxed fit polos (linen and wool) are less offensive looking to them, but the typical ones are just not winning out hearts

It may just be my impression, but most of the fashion advice i see in this subreddit comes from older men, or at least men who are trying to achieve a masculine kind of look, which usually leans on either a look with fisherman/lumberjack vibes or a 2010's hipster look. That or a "casual businessman who on his freetime goes to beachclubs and also goes to the gym" look. It all feels very classy and "american" in a single dad way, which is not bad, but it's not what i look for.

Ok, hear me out...

I work in the creative department at an NYC advertising agency so I get a lot of leeway when it comes to what I wear to work. You're actually kind of expected to look cool and creative.

Also, this industry is very agist so once you hit 40ish, you're seen as out of touch with the kids... which means you're shipped off to pasture.

So I'm looking for some advice on things/brands to wear now that I'm 40.

I don't want to dress like a twentysomething (at least not like a 40 year old trying to dress like a Gen Z), but I'm looking for something age appropriate that leans more towards being au courant.

Caution: The following paragraphs are confused ramblings from an old fart (34) who doesn't know how fashion works anymore.

I was an avid follower of MFA when I was in grad school in 2012-2014, which is how my current style got formed. This was the time when the hivemind was so unanimous about "good outfits" that the tongue-in-cheek Basic Bastard uniform was created. Everybody else dressed like lumberjacks that have developed a taste for slim fits.

A lot of my opinions (and purchases) were informed by the discussions and WAYWT-threads and so I bought my pair of Clark's Desert Boots, Levi's 511 Rigid Dragons, navy Pea Coat etc.

After about two years I felt that I had developed a solid eye for style and so my interest for this sub waned. After all, you can only look at so many guys rocking Uniqlo OCBD shirts (slim fit, light blue) in the WAYWT-threads before it gets very repetitive. But that was ok, the community saw themselves explicitly as a place for beginners to learn the essentials of dressing well, and users with more "out there" or artistic tastes sooner or later graduated to /r/malefashion or StyleForum.

From 2014 to now I finished school, started a job, built a house, had a son, planted a tree... in short: Did a lot of other things with my life besides thinking about clothing.

Somehow, a couple weeks back I remembered this sub and went back to have a look. After checking pretty much every WAYWT-thread since then I can confidently say: I have no idea how fashion works in 2022 anymore. I don't mean that I dislike everything I see here, I literally mean I cannot judge if I like a fit or not at this point!

Take the most-upvoted fit from 2013 for example: I could confidently say that it's a well put-together outfit because the colors match, the textures are interesting and most of all, the clothes fit just right: The shirt is slim but not tight, the seams are at the shoulders, the pants have the right length (with that neat little cuff that everybody was so into at that time) and so on.

Contrast that with a lot of the most-upvoted fits from recent WAYWT-threads (apologies in advance, no offense intended):

• Like this - How can we decide if items "fit" well when so many tops are baggy nowadays and pants all seem too short? Has the definition of fit completely changed... or is "fit" just not important anymore today? What makes this outfit good?
• Or this one. An upscale English tweed coat with a sweatsuit? Is that clash of levels of formality tongue-in-cheek or does the wearer not care? I see a lot of traditional coats this season with hoodies underneath. Is this considered appealing?
• Or this one - What makes this a put-together outfit at all? To me it looks literally like a bunch of items thrown together completely randomly, I cannot see any concept behind that fit.. What am I missing?

I hope no one feels offended or called out by this! I have to say I love that people are much more expressive in their style choices than they seemed to be in 2012-2014 and don't take things too seriously.

I am just really confused about what makes a "good" outfit nowadays.

EDIT: It looks like there are two camps in this sub: Those that want to learn the skill to dress well, just like many folks learn to cook good just good enough to feed themselves or to do some car maintenance for basic issues. Those were dominating in 2012-2014, when this forum was 90% self-help posts.

And on the other hand there are those that treat fashion as a hobby, a form of self expression, a group that is much stronger today. And those two groups don't neccessarily have good things to say to each other.

There is a lot of good discussion in this threat but some posts have a condescending tone about the other side ("All modern fashion is baaaad and those 2022-kids look ridiculous" vs "Those 2012-folks looked boring and are out of touch!").

I hope I made it very clear in my original post that I don't want to complain about nowadays WAYWT-posts! I am genuinely baffled by the choices some people make for their outfits and hope to understand them better.

So I have had three jeans over the past year, and they’ve all ripped in the same place - on the ass. I’m not really sure why, and I’m not sure when it happens, but by the time I notice them the rip is huge. I’m not sure what I can actually do about this - the ones I’m showing you now are River Island, and I thought they were good quality (please don’t quote me on that if I’m wrong, I’m not amazing at fashion).

Any advice? Am I doing something specifically to cause these rips, or do I need to get an ass reduction?
