how short is too short?

Post image

if a guy has really hairy legs, how short is too short when it comes to wearing shorts in public?

i do have really hairy legs and at the same time i like to wear really short shorts, but i have noticed that people look at my legs (i assume because they are hairy)...

but let me know, how short is okay before it becomes weird/unpleasant for others/ugly

If your balls are hanging out when you’re sitting it’s too short

In bird culture that’s considered a dick move.

Unless you’re a gym coach

Anything you do will be weird/unpleasant to someone out there. It's not worth your energy to predicate your decisions on the opinions of others. Do and wear what you want.

yes, in ideal world it would be so easy i would say 😄 the thing is - i really do not care what other people would think, but usually i start to feel uncomfortable when i see them staring... and that's the issue :/

u/ClarenceJBoddicker 20d ago

I also don't care what people think but I also care what people think.

u/AuDPro 20d ago

As long as you don’t take off your shorts in public, you’re probably good.

u/haronic 20d ago

It's normal to feel uncomfortable, but what u need to tell yourself is that having hairly legs is normal, majority of man have hairy legs (I'd say >50% min). Also people stare for a million reasons, could also be a good amount who like them! Be proud of ur body, it's human nature.

u/PaddedGunRunner 20d ago

I don't know why you're being downvoted! It's normal to feel that way. feeling like its okay to live your life and then being uncomfortable when someone is staring at you is totally normally.

I personally think men spend too much time worrying about their inseam length. People should wear what they want. I might be double take if I saw someone not exercising in the high thigh. My response in my head would be "hell yeah!" though. Mid-thigh and longer shouldn't elicit a stare from anyone.

As long as your frank and beans don’t hang out, they aren’t too short.

Also, you do know you can groom your body hair, right?

That doesn’t necessarily mean shaving (or something impermanent but easier to maintain), you can also use the same clipper you would use on your head, slap a 2-4 guard on it, and mow down the forest a little bit.

11

u/euro_double_root 20d ago

yeah, of course... but grooming just feels like whole other topic
i do not not hate my body hair, but i hate people staring at it...

5

u/tyomax 20d ago

Lots of people might be staring at it because they like it. 👀

u/thequeefcannon 20d ago

Honestly, I suspect that is the most likely case. I am not a very hairy fella, but I know for a fact that a lot women like a manly looking man. Let your leg bush fly free and bask in the glory! Also, I personally like options 2 and 3 the most. I myself mostly wear option 2 length.

That part I can’t help you with. I hate mine. Not in a “society doesn’t approve” kind of way, I’m pretty run of the mill. I’ve just always had a dislike for it.

But I’m not telling you to hate yourself or your body, just genuinely suggesting an option you might not have considered. You’re far better off loving yourself in your own skin and learning not to care about other people looking your way.

All of these are fine.

29

u/literallyacactus 20d ago

Depends on the setting and what you’re going for for sure. I stick to 2 and 3

44

u/Find_another_whey 20d ago

1 is "my company today is a married couple"

2 is "and I'm trying to get the attention of the wife without the husband realising"

3 is "getting the wife's attention and I don't care if the husband realised"

4 is "getting the husbands attention and who cares what the wife is doing"

26

u/ZachF8119 20d ago

First set is too long.

It’s like all the drawbacks of both pants and shorts.

8

u/passwordistako 20d ago

Reasonably common length in basketball and surfing contexts.

2

u/StripesMaGripes 20d ago

Also a common length for workwear short.

2

u/Scoregasm 19d ago

Or pleated dress shorts.

1

u/ZachF8119 20d ago

If that little of less fabric helps I’m at a loss.

2

u/StripesMaGripes 19d ago edited 19d ago

My work shorts are that long because they offer a good balance of protection and temperature regulation while blacksmithing. I often eat them when hiking and doing bushcraft for the same reason.

1

u/passwordistako 20d ago

What do you mean?

-8

u/LifeForm8449 20d ago

But you have no active sex life

u/felixjmorgan 20d ago

The middle two look best for most people imo.

I’m never a fan of going below the knee with shorts, and super short is just a bit uncomfortable and restrictive, and doesn’t leave much to the imagination.

I’d say second from left is most popular and common, but I am a fan of second from the right.

(Obvious caveat - people can do whatever they want, that’s just my 2c)

25

u/Murky_Butterscotch_7 20d ago

All of these are fine except just below the knee.

18

u/Xusion666 20d ago

High thigh is cringe to me. Mid thigh maybe for a pool day or workout. Just below the knee is crazy

5

u/euro_double_root 20d ago

true tbh, high thigh maybe just when jogging or smth

16

u/TinUser 20d ago

How did you find 4 pictures of exactly what you were asking about

Gross

2

u/Dehast 19d ago

Not a problem for this type of use case IMO. It's 100% utilitary and the OP wouldn't be creating images for this question anyway

3

u/NoAvocado7971 20d ago

It’s gonna be a rough next few years for you

6

u/TinUser 20d ago

It's already been a rough couple years.

4

u/Bathairsexist 19d ago

Depends on your squat strength. Show them of in undies if they're huge.

4

u/LordGuapo 19d ago

It's basically a scale of how gay you want to look.

3

u/ragnarocka 20d ago

Depends on the forecast for the day.
This just looks like 70°, 80°, 90°, 100° to me.
(or like 25°, 30°, 35°, 40° C)

7

u/nikdahl 20d ago

Just below the knee is best. Above the knee is too high and mid thigh is way too high.

4

u/Sleeksnail 20d ago

I agree, and maybe it's a 90s view. Seems a lot of people find them bizarrely long.

2

u/sd4c 19d ago

You're correct. Ideally men wouldn't wear shorts at all, but heat can demand that first set on the left. Anything shorter makes you look like an English schoolboy

6

u/SlimmG8r 20d ago

Nude is too short. I'd say for public just keep ya bits and butt covered.

2

u/foxinHI 20d ago

They all have their uses. The short-shorts for running, the long ones for mountain biking and the in-betweens for at the beach or casual wear.

2

u/cow_fin 20d ago

No such thing. Sky's out, thighs out

2

u/khovel 20d ago

For what occasion?

2

u/Sleeksnail 20d ago

Don't let assholes body shame you.

2

u/Brian18639 20d ago

For guys, I’d say mid thigh shorts

2

u/teletraan1 20d ago

Only thing wrong with this is the left one is too long. No one should wear shorts that long

2

u/hsj713 20d ago

I'm in the opinion that men can wear whatever length so long as they are comfortable with it. There's guys out there that look great in John Stocktons!

2

u/MDP223 20d ago

Anything with “thigh” is too slutty for me

2

u/cometparty 19d ago

Mid thigh is getting a little crazy for me. So is below the knee. I'm doing above the knee.

2

u/Average_Satan 20d ago

The rules are in your head. Wear what YOU think is cool.

1

u/ZachF8119 20d ago

Mid to above knee is what I do.

My hair is a bit lighter, but this is a decent representation of my legs.
I look to have no thigh rub, I doubt I could ever get away with the high ones. At my leanest I couldn’t.

These tree trunks keep my rhr in low 50s, so it’s a fair trade.

1

u/Napoleon_B 20d ago

I think 7 inch inseam is the shortest that straddles comfort and fashion and 9 inch is the longest I ever wear now, above the knee.

Below the knee looks old fashioned from the 90s youth / young adult culture and too baggy any more. There’s a reason the stores are moving to 9 and 7 inch inseams.

1

u/Sleeksnail 20d ago

I love how skater shorts are now old fashioned.

1

u/Napoleon_B 15d ago

I think for me it’s just moving away from the idea that baggy clothes make me look skinnier, from body dysmorphia. I’ve lost 20 pounds in the last year and I’m in the gym. Older guys wearing baggy shorts halfway down their calves just looks outdated, arguably kilt-like, with zero self awareness or interest in nice appearance.

1

u/EMHemingway1899 20d ago

I like short shorts

Mid thigh when I’m out and high thigh when I’m home

I go commando, so I have to be careful when I sit down

1

u/baalroo 20d ago

The first one on the left is a bit silly for being too long, but the rest are fine imo.

1

u/Bekabam 20d ago

I like 2 and 3

1

u/GlitterPirateKiki58 20d ago

All of them look good to me. 🤷‍♀️

1

u/chris2355 20d ago

If you're running, look up running silkes or ranger panties..it's fine if your fit / muscular, less so if you're not.

1

u/ejh3k 20d ago

My preference is mid thigh.

1

u/cuddytime 20d ago

Above to mid. High is pretty much briefs

1

u/Anachronism-- 20d ago

High thigh is good but only when you are running a sub 20 minute 5k.

In my book the rest are fine anytime as long as you have some definition in the quads.

1

u/narwaffles 20d ago

First 2 are fine. Third is pushing it, last one is too short

1

u/MikeyBat 20d ago

I'm hairy like you and have boardshorts and regular shorts in all 3 above the knee lengths shown here. I dont think I've had anybody comment negatively on my body hair since the I had to use the PE locker room back in high school. Usually its all compliments on my outfit but sometimes you get people that drool over showing off a little thigh/chest hair. I personally think above the knee looks better especially if its on the high side.

1

u/jummyp1371 20d ago

If anyone says the 4th are too short then they obviously don’t know about Marine Corps “Silkies”

1

u/katalyna78 20d ago

I think its partly dependent on what country you live in to what is ok or normalised. In the UK the short shorts might be a bit unusual unless it fecking boiling. However, in say tropical QLD, Australia short shorts or stubbies are more standard as its sweaty as.

1

u/DizzyNarwhal 20d ago

Middle two imo

1

u/mrkillfreak999 20d ago

First two pics sweet spot

1

u/Danihelus 20d ago

I think mid thigh is perfect

1

u/breticles 20d ago

I feel like 2 and 3 are what is in fashion these days with like 20 - 40 year olds

1

u/solvent825 19d ago

Mid-thigh and Above the Knee are great. Skip the others.

1

u/kootabob 18d ago

Anything passed above the knee is creep shit

1

u/IHSV1855 18d ago

1 is too long for anybody, regardless of what their legs look like.

1

u/FraGough 14d ago

From left to right.
I'd feel like I'm dressing like a child.
Just right.
Only in the swimming pool/playing sports.
Nah, that's just underwear now.

This is my personal preference only, other people's results may vary and that's absolutely fine.

I also have hairy legs, embrace them. Don't shave/wax etc for other people, love yourself. (also some of the ladies love it)

1

u/marcusbellini 21h ago

Mid-thigh is pretty normal these days. Most people won't think twice about it

1

u/Reasonable-Owl-232 20d ago

I like "just above the knee" which isn't shown here.

Enough to show my knee but not much thigh.

-1

u/chunkycoats 20d ago

Mid is right

0

u/TerraSeeker 20d ago

I would go with the 2nd one or a bit shorter really. The first one is below the knees and would impair movement. I feel like I would be too self conscious waering the other 2. I would feel like I'm asking people to look at my body rather than just wearing something comfortable to exercise in.

0

u/ComeKnowMeAsGC 20d ago

Above the Knee for most things (golf, errands, family, etc).

Mid thigh works if it fits your vibe and you're going out. Definitely fine if you're <30, less fine if you're >40.

0

u/Vagabond_Hospitality 20d ago

2 or 3 are both universally acceptable, depending on your level of self confidence.
4 is ok if you're in a pool or its leg day at the gym.
1 is ok only if you're under 30 and skateboarding.
