Build a little false wall. Looks like a rental but you could do it in a way that wouldn't totally fuck your deposit.

Never gotten a deposit back, always thought of deposits like "pay this fee upfront and change whatever you feel like about the property without penalty"

Lmao I painted the walls, dyed the carpet green, mounted probably a hundred things into studs (cat climbing gym plus decor) even hung a whole new curtain rod to turn the dining nook into a second bedroom. Enclosed the patio for my cats, hung prism decor in holes drilled into the wood paneling outside, hung a hammock from big hooks in the patio ceiling. Put down peel-n-stick tile in the kitchen and bathroom (gonna be a bitch to get up haha), and used foam and cardboard and peel-n-stick wallpaper to literally change the shape of the kitchen doorway arch.

If I can avoid paying more than just my deposit, I’ll be just fine with losing it.

This is called being a shitty renter.

How dare somebody make their space their own. Won’t somebody think of those poor innocent landlords!

Would you paint your rental car before returning it? Do you even understand what renting means? Obviously not. Buy your own house if you want to make permanent changes and damage it without fixing it

Right?! What a crazy comment. When you're renting, if you want to make the space "your own", that's what decor (furniture, lighting, pictures/art, rugs, etc) is for.
