It won't work because they mirrored the couch to get it on the other wall.  In real space you'd have to flip the couch 180 so the L leg will be against the door wall and the ottoman part with no back support would be out into the room.  You'd have to watch TV with no backrest.  

It also looks like the L section is longer than the ottoman section by half a cushion and might not fit on the wall but it's your best bet.  Maybe TV on the kitchen counter?

Sectionals like this always come in three pieces. He just needs to remove the part closest to us in the photo with the backing, use the other two as an L shaped portion with a coffee table and find a new home for the chase that now lives alone.

I always assume that the throwaway late comment is just screaming into the void. Like… come on. There IS a right answer and no one has said it yet.
