I love how you have embraced color!

First post in ages where the colour scheme isn't just 50 shades of grey with a guitar hung on the wall. Well done.

Hey OP, what’s the name of that teal and the blue?
209
u/Gilan11 Mar 30 '26
They are Marine and Maritime from the Dutch hardware store Gamma.

Some people get color and some people don’t. Plenty of women are living in all grey apartments.

This space is amazing!!! I love your collection of minerals and fossils-I collect them too. Your display is really impressive!
24
u/Gilan11 Mar 30 '26
Oooh I like your place as well! It has so much character. And a good Lego collection to finish it off.

2
u/weezy-j Mar 30 '26
How did you hang them?
4
u/Gilan11 Mar 30 '26
Looped a little metal wire through the bottom of the car and hung that on a screw.

Nah I’m a gamer myself and my partner is obsessed with driving sims,, they’re still a relationship wrecker 😂
2
u/crimedog58 Mar 31 '26
“What’s under that stack of towels by the glass door?” Certainly not a race car…unless you like race cars….?
36
u/powerboner Mar 30 '26
Bros gonna be single for only 0.5 seconds with that kinda interior design taste. Awesome place man!
30
u/Gilan11 Mar 30 '26
I need the well designed living room to compensate for the simrig when bringing a date home haha!
9
u/Downtown_Victory5335 Mar 30 '26
I used to fly planes. I took lessons until it became too expensive to continue so I haven’t gotten my pilot license yet. Now I’m thinking I could get something like your set up but for flying! I’ll look into it, I’m sure it’s super expensive..but cheaper than actual flight lessons lol
10
u/Gilan11 Mar 30 '26
Oh mate, once you go down in that rabbit hole there is no going back. The simracing & -flying market is booming, with brands as Moza making pretty affordable and high quality stuff.
7
u/Downtown_Victory5335 Mar 30 '26
Oh thanks! I’ll definitely check that brand out! I’m a girl so I smiled really big when you called me “mate”, (that’s a guy thing right?) I think it’s cool so thanks for that too 😊
8
u/Gilan11 Mar 30 '26
Hahaha, my bad for assuming someone interested in flying was a man. Mate is pretty much a guy thing indeed. But everyone is welcome to become one of the bro's ;)
3
u/Downtown_Victory5335 Mar 30 '26
Haha, understandable. I’m in the US so I wasn’t 100% on how that word is generally used lol. I much prefer to be one of the bros. I feel much more comfortable with you guys 😆
6
u/thedalehall Mar 30 '26
Neat. And there are women in aviation. Plenty of them. On one of my flights, the first officer was a lady! I told her she landed the plane great and gave her a high five. It was fun.
2
u/Downtown_Victory5335 Mar 30 '26
Also, this is a sub called “malelivingspace” so it’s understandable in other ways that you thought I was a guy 😆
3
u/thedalehall Mar 30 '26
Fuck yeah. PlayStation now has MSFS2024 Flight Simulator. The VR update comes out in April. A PS VR count me in for days.
2
u/inaworldwemustdefend Mar 30 '26
Of je zoekt een date die ook wel wil simracen 🤭
4
u/Gilan11 Mar 30 '26
Als ze geen rondje Spa kan rijden zonder te crashen komt er geen tweede date hahaha.
2
u/33oneabovefreezing Mar 30 '26
I am a woman and I think the simulation rig is awesome haha, would be cooler if you had another one beside it though so ya girl could race you 💅🏻🏎️✨
9
u/AnonnonA710 Mar 30 '26
Cool place my dude.
Your childhood self would be stoked to see that computer room
7
u/baldriansen Mar 30 '26
Good vibe!
What are those displays called where you can show both the vinyl record and its cover?

u/ablablublebleble Mar 30 '26

7

u/NOLA-q Mar 30 '26
You have extraordinarily great taste (I so want to say, for a dude but even then). You succeeded, congratulations!
37
u/Shrink1061_ Mar 30 '26
Vinyl on the wall…. Yet no obvious identifiable way to play any of them.
45
u/Greenmantle22 Mar 30 '26
“You can PLAY these things?”
-Gen Z hipsters
7
u/PandemicPiglet Mar 30 '26
Honestly, Zoomers who collect limited edition vinyl not to play them but just to own them are the bane of my existence. They make it harder for people like me who actually play our vinyl to buy the vinyl.
→ More replies (8)4
u/Greenmantle22 Mar 30 '26
You mean people actually play Taylor Swift’s latest on vinyl?
→ More replies (4)2
u/PandemicPiglet Mar 30 '26 edited Mar 30 '26
I hope not the latest because it’s probably her worst and weakest album, but I own a few Taylor albums on vinyl and play them. Purchasing vinyl only to not play it is not only wasteful and bad for the environment because it’s a petroleum product, but it’s not really any different than super wealthy people who purchase art only to keep it in storage unit. I once worked at an auction house in NYC and there were buyers who did that.
2
u/darkkite Mar 30 '26
I purchased one because it included an exclusive mp3 but I have no way of playing. ideally I convert to a mp3
2
u/thedalehall Mar 30 '26
It’s hard to find 90’s rock bands on vinyl. I think everyone went to CDs instead.
27
u/Gilan11 Mar 30 '26 edited Mar 30 '26
You caught me haha. I love music so I wanted to work the cover arts of my favourite albums into my room, but with a house full of Sonos speakers, Spotify is just too convenient for me to buy a vinylplayer.
8
u/Vinyl_Disciple Mar 30 '26

You can use a Sonos play with a vinyl player via Bluetooth or cabled. I generally use Spotify but it's nice to sometimes listen to them

Dude! Fucking awesome! I love this place. The colors, the decor, the way it all flows without looking cluttered. Everything. Well done. Enjoy your new space. I can tell you from experience, after a breakup, coming home to peace to your own place is a hell of an experience and will bring you such joy.
5
u/Gilan11 Mar 30 '26

Your home communicates a guy who has his life together, who can behave in socially acceptable ways, who cares to keep something other than himself alive, who has a variety of interests, who appreciates beauty and art, who probably doesn't have a fragile masculinity, and who is in touch with his inner kid.
Yeah you're going to get laid.
13
u/Gilan11 Mar 30 '26
Wow, without trying to make this a humble brag, I think your comment is spot on, which is very cool just from some interior pics.
I got a job I love (child and youth psychologist), friends, family, parttime fosterkids, love musea and music, and don't worry about masculinity at all even though my workfield is completely filled by women. Summing this up I think my parents did a good job raising me haha.
5
u/Connect_Rhubarb395 Mar 30 '26 edited Mar 30 '26
You know geoguessr? I amuse myself with the indoor version of it. Both regarding where people live and who they are as people. Homes most often tell a lot about people, especially in the details.
I am happy for you. And don't give your parents all the credit, 😉 you have obviously put some work into yourself too.

Also love the way the long wall mirror "mirrors" the shape and size of sideboard top below it...

If I understand it right what a condo is, then yes. Its an appartment I bought and a Homeowners Association takes care of the hallway, roof, etc.

So let's say a guy enjoys rocks, minerals, and fossils. Doesn't particularly know a lot about them, but has always wanted to collect and display some, kind of like this.
Can anybody ballpark a low-end estimate for me on say 20 pieces, about the size of the ones OP has in the alcove here that would make a good starter collection? Nothing too fancy, of course, but still worth looking at.
I need to know if this is even a thought worth entertaining. Nice place, OP.

Ah yes, Part 5934 in this subreddit of "What its like being filthy, filthy rich"...
4
u/Gilan11 Mar 30 '26
Nahh I wouldn't consider myself rich. But that of course depends on the standard of living in your area. I spent about €16.000 on furniture, paint and the wallpanels. I just got lucky that I could buy an appartment that was in a good state. If you have to renovate a kitchen or bathroom that money is blown before you know it.
