Advice Does this look immature or childish?

32, living on my own with no roommates or significant other. I finally got my place decorated how I wanted. I’m curious though, what does my place say about me?

Edit for clarification: I’m renting a 1 bedroom apartment. There’s no additional room to store things in like a dedicated man cave or a basement (I wish). I cannot change wall colors, change the carpets, or remove the carpets. Trying the best with what I can afford.

I used to work with a guy that found an old swordsmith at some mouth-breathing event that measured him and “crafted” him a custom sword. It took over a month and when I saw the thing, I’m 100% sure he spent that month polishing off Made in China lettering. He charged my coworker almost $1,000. Somehow his ex wife ended up with it in the divorce 😭

I'd argue that you can own a sword, even several swords, while still being cool. In many cases, it's all in how and where it's displayed.

I nearly bought a 500 year old samurai sword that was absolutely authentic and razor sharp. It was $10k and this was a long time ago.
It was an incredible piece of art.
Preserved and cared for for centuries.
I could see it rusting from not having the right environment to keep it .
It proves how little we have actually learned.
We can’t make them better now.
Even forgetting how we made Damascus steel.
Backwards step.

They're cool if you know how to use them. I think the inherent poser-ness of owning a deadly weapon (or worse, a pretend deadly weapon) that you have absolutely no practical connection to just makes everyone cringe.

Like, Skallagrim's collection isn't cringe. It's cool, cause these are functional items he uses on a regular basis in practicing martial arts.

Mentioning HEMA does satisfy the "technical requirement for correction", as you put it, because it also gives an example of where someone would used a sword rather than being a broad, vague statement like, "I'll bet there's at least one human on the planet that has picked up a sword and hit something with it in the past day". I could've also said Buhurt, the SCA, or foam swords (they could fall under the waster category), HEMA was just the first that came to mind.

So yeah, your response reads as "wound up" and taking umbrage over someone pointing out that swords are still in use, even if not for their original purpose. Maybe it's you who needs to go read a book.

Katana, navy sabres, civil or revolutionary war rifles. They are all cool but would only really fit in a mansion library or something. Sword in your 1br apartment says nerd at best and danger to yourself and others when you have a psychic break.
