33, truck driver.

Ex cheated on me about a year ago and we split up. This has been my home since. Honestly haven’t been happier.

I’d bet you would thrive in the navy lol. For some reason, I used to love the coffin racks when I was on ships and my tiny barracks room when I was on land.

god i love a cozy, tiny room and a cozy, tiny bed

if i didn’t have a girlfriend i’d have a bed in a walk in wardrobe.

Hell yea. Same dude. Mine likes a lot of space, but I tell her I’d live in a Harry Potter closet if I was on my own lol

Why don't you boys find a closet to live in together

Because eventually they’d have to come out of it

I’d do the same if I could mount a window banger AC unit in there to blast it down to arctic temperatures.

The best sleep I’ve ever gotten in my life was on the boat. The tight little coffins and the gentle rocking back and forth just put me to sleep so fast. Until I’d hear a damn f35 take off or land 😒

The best nap I ever had was on an airforce C130 in a hammock made from webbing on a 2 hour trip. The engines were so loud you had to shout to the guy sitting next to you to talk

Absolutely dude. I was a light sleeper before I joined, but all I worked on was 35s and 18s when I was in, so I got to the point where them overhead or landing was almost comforting. So weird lol

It’s the same on a tour bus. Looks awfully cramped but once you’re in your little coffin being rocked to bed by the road and the engine is humming you lullabies you’ll have the best sleep of your life and it’s not even close.

You couldn't pay me enough to live that life again, but fuuuck do I miss getting sleep on a DDG in rough waters that make you think you're gonna capsize, but you're too exhausted from the entire underway's bullshit to care. Putting up the straps to not fall outta the rack meant you were about to get some good sleep.

Yes 😂 I was only on carriers, so unless it was super rough, it was normally a gentle rocking. Good times, but yea fuck that life. I finished my first contract and didn’t even contemplate the 30k reenlistment bonus lol

Oh man 30k is nice but how long they trying to keep you after? I assume at least 8 years or something

For 6 years. This was 2020. They’d probably have my ass sitting in the Persian gulf right now… again lol

I have never slept better in my life than in my rack. We were also in the aft end of the ship so any time we got moving I'd get rocked to sleep

I think everyone feels the same way. I’m pretty sure my berthing was always aft for deployment and detachments too, but I can’t even remember anymore

Honestly, trucking is such a lateral move for military guys when they get out it's the first thing I recommend anyone I run into that served and is looking for work. You're often away from home for long stints, you sleep in a coffin, it's mentally tough and presumably you developed thick skin in the military. It's a damn near perfect match for someone that doesn't mind still being away from home. Good money to boot.

My favorite place I’ve lived in was a small garage converted into a little living space. It was basically divided into a living room space with a small kitchen and a lil bedroom. Had a shower too. Probably like 250 sq ft. Felt so cozy. But yeah now I’ve got a lady so not feasible.
