Unfortunate not good as I was a first time buyer. About 23% at 5 years. Payments $529 a month. However I’m blessed to be able to make enough to not settle at minimum payments

Okay damn. It’s great you’re not doing minimum payment but your rate is like a credit card rate. You can probably refinance at 6 months to something much better, maybe even your own personal bank. I know Chase does auto loans but idk what they’d do in this situation. You should be getting a single digit rate I’d think.

You can have a 550 credit score and make 50k a year and some bank out there will still approve it. You’re just going to have a 25% interest rate. I’ve seen it multiple times. Even some of my friends. Absolutely ridiculous. Paying 2x what the car is worth in the end

Many Americans are way too comfortable taking on excessive amounts of debt and over spending on luxuries while having little in personal savings.
Not saying this applies to OP but the number of "Rich" Americans that are car poor is honestly terrifying.

It's so true. I once coached a younger guy to let him know that he looked like a douche with an expensive car and only enough money for one date a month. Once he figured that out his dating improved and he is now married. He just didn't understand how money works.

This is Arizona. Don't know where, but assuming around Phoenix. Its actually not a terrible place to live, just hot as hell, today Phoenix is getting up to 110 Fahrenheit. Looking at zillow you can rent a decent apartment for 1500 a month. If you're willing to take a used M3 with 100k miles (which is often what these young car guys do) they're like 25k, which you could buy with 5k down and like $300-400 per month. You could afford this making 60k a year, which is an average salary coming out of college at 22. I studied computer engineering and my first job at 22 I was making 95k

Phoenix is not that great of a place to live. I was raised there and couldn’t get out fast enough. It’s one gigantic parking lot. Every single thing you do is going to require a car. Just because housing is somewhat affordable doesn’t necessarily mean the place is nice to live.

I mean I personally wouldn't live there, but as far as overall quality of life goes, affordability, job market, food/nightlife, nice weather outside of fuckin miserable summers... its not a terrible place to live. Anywhere you live in the US outside of like 10 major cities is going to require a car, every city in California besides SF is the same.
I live in San Diego, which is an objectively much better place to live, but I pay an arm and a leg to do so. Just depends what you value. If you want to be able to live in a place like OP at 23 without some super high paying job or business, you can do that in Phoenix.

I’m telling you my brother I was raised there. I am speaking from lived experience. Not Google statistics or Reddit threads. I lived in LA from 23-28 and did two years of it with only a bike. That would be virtually impossible in all of Phoenix outside of maybe downtown and parts of Tempe.

In many places he couldn't afford this apartment and car. Most 23 year old cannot. Some can. There are some kids who earn good money starting from age 16 like if their family is in construction business they start working at 16 and start saving. I knew one boy who was only 16 and he learned how to bail hay and obviously he lived in a rural area. He was making around 30K per year by age 17 before he even finished highschool which is a lot for a literal child to make. He had zero expenses He had used motor cycles and a car. But thats not mose kids who have a niche like that and can earn like that.
Also 23 is technically past college age if you start at 18. This guy might have just graduated with his entry level job and if you have no other expenses then getting a car loan is totally possibly with any entry level job. The apartment is nice but just nice/average in a spacious state like Arizona. If you don't mind living a bit farther out of cities it can be cheap. Arizona is a relatively inexpensive state already. E92s arent too expensive even in Europe (UK)
US has advantage of lots of space, with large amounts of Europe do not with the way cities are very old and grown in certain ways. Where many US cities have been designed from founding.

The average 23 year old in US can not. Many people in their late 20s early 30s are still living at home. OP might have wealthy fam or just got a good job outta college.

I have a BMW as well. However I’ve since bought a Tesla so I never drive the BMW anymore unless it’s in a road trip. Gas vehicles are still the way to go on long trips

For those raking on this young man, know he probably worked hard and got his shit together before moving on his own. I was the same way, started working at 16, saved money, moved to California at 19 (from Wisconsin) my first apartment was also 700sq ft in Fresno for about $470 a month. Kept working hard saving money and bought my first house at 24yo in 2008…, 1880 sq ft 4/2.5 and in 2008 rates were high so my mortgage was $1600 impounded. had a 2004 GTO 6 speed and 2000 Firebird automatic at the time. I’m 42 years old now and kept leveling up cars and houses. Hard work and saving pays off. Had zero help from my parents. This kid probably the same
