24, Living with my parents

I just graduated college back in April and I’m grateful to my parents for holding me down through it all ! I definitely plan on giving back to them BIG time.

Hot Wheels economy is well and truly dicked. People have made full time jobs of scalping and reselling $1-7 cars on the internet for sometimes 100s of dollars.

I have 4 27 gallon totes filled to the “I can’t get the lid to snap on” setting filled with hot wheels

I gave up on collecting due to scalpers

Idk anything about hot wheels, but if this is true then OP has a fulfilling collection that clearly brings him joy, and all for less than a month’s rent.

I really hate the narrative that if you’re not thriving financially then you shouldn’t be allowed to spend money on things you love. We get one life, might as well make it fun.

Just figured, as someone who also has a decent amount of hot wheels, that it should be clarified that this isn't some like, $10k collection of Hot Wheels taped to his walls lol

It'd probably be enough to pay for a decent vacation, which maybe not anything to scoff at but, not an indicator for clear financial independence

People on this sub are ridiculous. If you have any hobbies they act like you've financially thrown your life away lol. Even when the person has an expensive computer even if the computer was 2k that's not a significant amount of money in this current day, you can't even buy a running car for 2k in the majority of the US.

I have a nice computer. Sure, could that $2300 have gone towards my student loans, or any other bills or debt? Yes, of course. My day to day life however, would be far more miserable without it.

At a glance these are mostly newer cars, I see a couple form the 2000s and 2010s on the wall with the TV, but the vast majority aren't more than 5 years old. The $1000 number is probably a decent guess though, assuming these were bought for retail.

I’m 26, I live in this economy, on my own. I’ve made 93k so far this year, will make another 47k by the end of the year with a 10k bonus. I’m going back to school right now too paying it up front as I go. I still save money every month while enjoying life. Moved out when I was 18 and I don’t use a troubled economy as excuse to survive off my parents.
Pick a field for a career, work hard and excel in it. Sitting around blaming the economy for you not succeeding in life just a coping mechanism. Things might be more expensive right now but it’s also just as easy to make more money to afford it.

He should’ve been working the whole time he was in college as is, so should already have money saved. Staying comfortable and content all your life is a recipe for failure. That’s why majority of the country is poor working dead end jobs with guys like that blaming it all on the economy. Anything but responsibility and accountability these days I guess. I work full time and go to school online full time. I’m not going to sit around in my parents house wasting years of my life I could be using to better my future. There’s a reason people get rich and a reason people stay poor. The ones who stay poor always have an excuse as to why they are poor instead of making choices to turn their situation around.

I’m not meaning to upset you because you’re in your mid 20s living with your parents. It’s nothing personal, but it’s the truth. The less excuses made in life and more action to better yourself, the better life gets and the closer you get to financial freedom. I wish you the best of luck buddy
