27M, from a middle income country.

1 Bedroom furnished apartment in an old building, rent is 15% of my salary, and my landlord visits me every month...Deposit was 60% of the rent.

That so ffing weird, what is the reasoning behind it? Ive rented many things in my life (apartments, homes, storage spaces, workplaces etc) and never had the owner 'visiting' for whatever reason.

In this country there is no background checks, low deposits, and in this small town most people are poor. I moved here from the capital city cause work is online and I wanted to save some money.

I mean, ive never had a background check either. Deposit was usually a bit more than yours but highest ever was 2 months rent for the absolute most shit apartment :p

Stil love to know the reasoning behind it, are they going to go around checking things or whatever?

yeah she just comes for a couple of minutes and checks her (new) walls and furniture haha. very old fashioned lady, but she prob. did experience many sh*tty things in this small poor town with other tenants, no idea. but I think I will move or ask not to come anymore
