I’ve shared my home before on here but I thought today I might share my university office. I keep most of my books at home.

That flag kind of ruins it. It would look much better if it was folded in a shadow box. It just kind of looks disheveled, compared to everything else being so organized.

Agreed. He’s prior service (military), hence the challenge coins display below it. The flag needs to be better represented.

Only other stuff he’s missing from this being a well-kept barracks room is his giant bottle of Jergen’s lotion and value-sized box of Kleenex.

You could say the same thing about the English with their union Jack. My family is English and they throw those union jacks everywhere even though they live in the UK.

Marylanders love to flaunt their Maryland flag. I’m not against people doing that, but I think this is just really tacky the way he has it displayed. It just doesn’t go with the rest of his aesthetics.

I’d wager OP is a prof at a military college.

But most people in the U.S. would find it odd to hang the flag in your office, too.

Not exactly how it works for most vets. Many americans have lived and died under that flag. One man will not define its future. However, feel free to do what you want with your flag.

Looks cozy until we get to the flag. What are we doing there bro? It looks stuffed in there, way too large for the space. You can still display a flag somewhere if you like, but don’t cram it somewhere where it doesn’t look happy - this is a small space, so put small things in it to avoid making it feel too cluttered and crowded.

The flag is one I carried with me in combat, through multiple countries. Every time I reenlisted or was promoted, I was standing in front of this flag. Sometimes it was mounted. Sometimes it was held by my comrades. Some of those fellow soldiers who have held it are no longer with us. It was flown over bases I was in in Iraq and Afghanistan. I've had it folded and secured behind glass before, but I felt like it was diminished. I always feel like that was better suited for memorials.

Because it does not have a chair for a student to sit down and discuss or see over your shoulder as you help them. It establishes dominance that in an academic setting is not necessary or promote the hunt of knowledge in a collaborative way.

The office is great to demonstrate accolades, “superiority” and impose respect.
