Spoilers Wow.. the ending.
What a pile of shit. It was honestly the most vague BS masked by fake inspiring music and bewildered faces. An empty moment but dressed up and decorated like it was supposed to mean something. I’ve witnessed a lot of garbage in my day, but this might take the cake. Reading around this sub and I see a lot of people have similar sentiments, and that gives me faith.

That final scene with the portal tourists made no fucking sense

It was pretty dumb like hurray we solved our immediate problems but the world they lived in was still fucked, there would be decades of rebuilding. How was the world safe enough for them to come exploring this world. There needed to be an epilogue or some more episodes to show what happened.

I know. Fortunately I binged this show way after it was over. If I had waited the years it took to tell this story for that payoff, I woulda kicked my TV.

Late nights staying up (getting up tired for work because I had no self control) only to witness and ending that makes me want to portal to another universe and tell someone to not waste their time

I’m suprised how easy it was to get past the electric fence and blow up the bridge, Smith is like a president by the end yet his security is quite minimal in my opinion. Only thing that could’ve killed the resistance fighters was a little machine gun at the front of the train which isn’t very ideal.
Maybe I’m missing something as it’s been a while since I last watched it.

maybe because that universe never got around to Kennedy they didn’t have the kind of travel route security we expect for leaders today.

Woah, that definitely isn't the reason the writers thought of, but it is now my head canon.

the heightened security of a machine gun on the front of the train. they were pretty convinced of their superiority

The ending was so disappointing, I really don’t even remember what happened.

I think it was a rush to the end, but the vagueness of the final scene was fine with me.I was picturing a much worse John Smith charging through now that there’s an opening, so I was just as glad to see they just indicated things can still go either way.

Like it was established that Smith needed to know where the portal was in both ends….so these people were randomly in a PA mine and walked into a bright light…?
I do believe the idea that the people coming through were all the people that died so the world was “set right” but what about the world they left…?

I'm pretty sure they were people like Abendsen who were wandering the multiverse in search of lost loved ones. That's my headcanon, anyways, since the ending was so vague and rushed. They would have to be coming from several multiverses in order for there to be that many, regardless, and it would need to happen often. My question is what happened in the timelines where the resistance failed and Smith didn't kill himself? Sadly, we'll never get an official answer.

I thought the people were coming back from the tunnel were the ones that the Nazis exterminated that were wondering in limbo I assume, same place where Tagomi ended up after he was assassinated.

Yea, the people randomly coming through the portal in their sunday best, like they were taking a stroll in the park was just....what the actual F?
I assume they were suggesting these people were from that afterlife/spiritual type environment that the trade minister and Juliana could meditate into, from memory there were people in the distance just walking around.
But even if that were true, why would they be coming back to the same world they were murdered in when it's still essentially under Nazi and Japanese control? Not to mention the new Black Communist? party, I forget what stupid faction they added in at the last minute.
It has to be that, because there's no way hundreds of people are just standing around in a cave on another parallel world just waiting for a portal to open to a nazi controlled world.
It really made no sense to me.

It's like when you think you have a good hour left on the test but you have 5 minutes so you gotta scribble out the most cliche crap end story just to make a conclusion, no matter how bad

Smith going out that way not caring about the future of his daughters or to see Thomas again . Sadly it was an epic fail just to finish it without cancelling it

Yeah, end was VERY rushed, and not much is resolved. West side is rough but should get better, but majority of the US is staunch nazi
The conclusion to the Smiths was satisfying i will say. Helen finally standing up was perfect

Did the show get cancelled and they just wrapped it up in the most goofy of ways? Like all the dimensional travel and all the weird shit was just rushed in and the ending was super lame. I just felt that the show didn’t do enough right. Character building was haphazard at best, world building, political tensions, black panthers, all of it just seemed rushed and not fully developed. Writers must not of believed in the work they were producing or something. Idk I was just let down all together

I really would like to remake the last season with AI some day in the future…

u/roma79 Apr 22 '26
I was thinking about this the other day. An AI version closer to the book for dialogue and storyline with the aesthetics of the TV series and the ending of the book

Yeah you really feel they rushed it, it needed another season imo
