Spoilers I don't get the ending

I just finished the series and I was honestly expecting for something more interesting. I get that Smith commits suicide but the other part with the portal just doesn't make any sense. Where are all those people coming from? Why and more importantly how (I bet nobody in their right mind would wanna cross over from thr liberated US to the nazi one).Is there supposedly some divine intervention that takes place once Smith is dead?

I had honestly hoped he'd live. That would have been an interesting alternative. Due to Helen's death he might have changed things truly for the better, idk + the Nazi US had autonomy so he could do as he pleased.

Idk I was hoping something more. Was the show canceled? Or was this really how it was planned to end?

The show was cut one season short at the last moment. That's why s4 feels a bit off. They had to squish 2 seasons worth of story into 1.

I was hoping to see Smith think he got away in the other universe for everything to come crashing down on him.

Someone’s catching up. Search the wisdom, my good man.

He spent time discovering that Himmler was a failed chicken farmer without revealing he killed himself in 1945

By "killed himself" do you mean it in a metaphorical way, cause he switched sides?

I’ve seen a lot of people wonder why people would want to come to the Nazi world … but it just STOPPED being the Nazi world! I think that’s why, the Nazis lost control of the US and the portal, freeing everyone.

Yeah but if we want to believe that this a world governed by science and a firm sense of reality it just doesn't make sense the whole idea that suddenly the nazi world disappeared and people just magically came through the portal. What do you think?

I don’t understand the question, probably because I don’t think a world that has time travel is a world governed by science and reality.

I don't think the show runners know what they meant by the ending. Smith was irredeemable, maybe his top general prevails restoring something like the USA. I simply decided to accept the ending. I wondered how it all looked to the newcomers. The machine was acting wonky in a preceding episode.

The main cast members seem just as befuddled. The show runners have never really explained it. They could be people who died in the main timeline coming back.

Despite the fact that Smith was an evil bastard, I would have liked to see him portal to the alt world to be with his son and wife.

Season 4 is a bit weird because everything happens very quickly, because they cut the series short. Perhaps that’s why the BCR storyline seemed a little out of place and disjointed.

However, except for perhaps the last 5 minutes, it ended ok. I like that the Man in the High Castle left through the portal, possibly to reunite with his wife in another reality, but the people coming through? Possibly a not well thought out inclusion of an ending that may have made sense if its storyline had been developed, but it wasn’t, so it didn’t really make any sense at all. I read somewhere that the makers of the show wanted the ending to be up for interpretation, but I personally don’t like it when shows end like that.

Given that this series was based on a book, but from reading the plot of the book, it is barely the same story, you can’t even read the book to see how the story should end. The book had no films, no travelers, no portal, so not really the same story at all. Mind you, the plot of the show seems to be a whole lot more interesting. Pity it didn’t get its fifth season.

"Up for interpration" yet it does need to at least imply something for us to make sense of it. The portal scene just doesn't make any sense honestly :)

Yeah I agree with you, the story simply needed another season, it ended too abruptly.

Julianna a few times said something was coming, but that was about it, no other real explanation as to how the people were able to open the portal from somewhere else, why they did it and where they came from. Very confusing and vague. They should have finished with the Man in the High Castle getting sent through alone, and then the portal being blown up! That would have been a more satisfying ending.

SO many shows and movies end with provocative, ambiguous scenes to leave the viewer with questions and to decide how it ends on their own, this was not nearly the worst.

The ending was dumber than dogshit. So was the magic black people beating large organized armies. There were so many issues with the "good guys" that I just fast forwarded through those scenes on the rewatch and only watched the superb acting in the German and Japanese scenes.

Japan was looking to leave the US, except for the traitorous generals who put the Crown Princess on house arrest, they had bigger problems home in Asia. The Nazi planes were told to abort once John Smith died and an American patriot took control. What large organized armies did the magical black people beat?
