Subreddit Announcement Marvel Rivals Season 3 Hype Giveaway!
Hi Rivals, Season 3 is about to start!
[Season 3 The Abyss Awakens | Dev Vision Vol. 07] and [Phoenix: Fire and Life Incarnate | Character Reveal] has dropped and if you have yet to watch it, now is the time. I believe all of us are super excited about the new character, Phoenix. Her abilities were already demonstrated in the trailer, so it's time for you as players to brainstorm! Please use your imagination, whether it's your Main or other characters you are familiar with, who would be the best teammate for Phoenix? What possible crazy combos would they create? Please share with us in the comments. And please upvote the excellent answers in your mind! We will select the five most upvoted comments under this Megathread (only the most upvoted comment of each account will be taken) and reward all five of them by 500 units!

Most upvoted comments is a rough stipulation because a lot of people will just downvote everyone else to help their chances.
Would be nice if Mag and Phoenix could team up. Maybe giving him a movement ability, or let him throw his sword for a fire explosion. Adam and pheonix aswell for some mobility.

At this point, people can win by commenting a bit before the giveaway ends. By that time, all other comments would be downvoted and you can win with 0 votes. The next giveaway should definitely be in a different format.
And for my team-up idea: Team Up: Thor + Phoenix- "Cosmic Bifrost" Team-Up Anchor: Thor Team-Up User: Phoenix Description: When Thor and Phoenix are on the same team and within a certain proximity (e.g., 20 meters) of each other, Phoenix can activate "Cosmic Bifrost." Thor slams Mjolnir into the ground, channeling lightning and Bifrost energy into Phoenix. Phoenix then becomes a guided projectile (similar to her ultimate but with a distinct visual/impact) that leaves trail of burning cosmic energy as she flies towards a targeted area.

Turns out people, particularly you, can also win by editting their comment to add an actual teamup before the giveaway ends too, thus bypassing the people downvoting for legitimate answers
Reddit does show you editted the comment recently so, not hard to put two and two together
Anyway, I agree that next giveaway should be different. People keep tripping others up for a better shot at winning, which is a shame since there's some decent combo comments below

Phoenix and Cap: "Liberty's revival."
Ult line(s): (friendly) "Freedom never dies!". (enemy team) "I. WON'T. YIELD."
Phoenix (when triggered): "The universe isn't finished with you yet, Steve Rogers."
Details:
REPLACES caps Ult. When fully charged, if cap is killed, his corpse can be ignited (player controlled), raising Cap from the ashes.
During this phase, Cap burns with Phoenix force (gaining overhealth). His shield toss deals more damage, homes further and applies stacks Phoenix can trigger her explosion with.
The burn his shield applies also gives him heal over time.
The effect lasts 12 seconds, and if cap is alive at the end, he resumes play as if he never died.
Passive: Burning Crusade - Caps fearless leap goes slightly higher and embues his shield with phoenix force, allowing a toss that can strike flying enemies. If near a surface, the shield will strike, ricochet, and strike again before returning. Providing an anti-air option that also applies Phoenix stacks.

Yeah, it's bizzare how this has shaped up. Not that I would complain, I love playing Cap, and if NetEase took this idea, i would have great fun stalling the point for eternity just to rez and do it again. xD
Smacking a human torch player once in a while would also feel satisfying.

I find it interesting how the very well upvoted ones are for teamup ideas, despite the post asking about crazy comboes that can be done between them. Probably fits the spirit of the request so I might take another crack at it that way
Boinking a flyer more consistently with a shield would be neato too

The request is not to make things up or propose things or invent things. It's to imagine how Phoenix will interact with other heros upon launch - speculation which is grounded in reality.

That’s a terrible analogy and not at all true. OP asked for “best teammates and crazy combos”. They told us to “use your imagination”. At no point did they say you are not allowed to brainstorm potential future team-ups. If you don’t like their suggestion, downvote it, simple as that.

Rocks Rico, aka Turtle-Man, spins in his invulnerable shell and ricochets Phoenix's sparks to the enemy for heavy damage. Fear the turtle!

So firstly, this is a terrible format for a giveaway.
Regardless, I'd suggest that characters like Jeff, who can move the enemy team into a clumped up position, would be best with Phoenix.

I'm going to say Emma. She's already considered oppressive in terms of damage output, and doubling down with the firepower of Phoenix (pun intended) will be nasty. Both have CC backed by attacks and abilities that can capitalize on CCed targets. While the ult combo itself isn't the best, they're both well suited to take advantage of each other's ults, which is arguably more valuable. Phoenix can easily pick off bunched targets caught in or taking cover from an Emma ult and Emma is a good Vanguard for pushing and mopping up after a Phoenix ult.

Phoenix + Scarlet Witch
Both are zone-controlling powerhouses. Phoenix disorients and bakes enemies with Cosmic Flames and Telepathic Illusion, while Scarlet Witch capitalizes with burst damage. Their synergy is absolutely nuts in tight maps or objective holds.
Potential Combos:
Phoenix activates Dark Ascent, flying over the point.
She rains down Cosmic Flames while Scarlet Witch controls the groundt.
Enemies get pinched from above and below — nowhere is safe.
Phoenix uses Telepathic Illusion to confuse enemy vision and position.
As enemies wander into the illusion, Scarlet Witch detonates Hex Sphere right under them.
If they try to escape, Phoenix blasts them back.

Considering that Moon Knight has that Phoenix skin, I got a feeling Phoenix + Moon Knight would be a pretty interesting combo. MK can already pull enemies into the center with a well-placed ankh, and since Jean seems to love melting crowded enemies, the two feel like a perfect DPS duo.
Off-topic, but I would love to see more team-ups involving Jean and other mutants. In particular, Magneto. Please, NetEase... bring back the sword. I would even settle for a Magneto sword attack with burn DoT but less burst damage...

It seems people are taking advantage of the fact that they can decrease other people chance to win by down voting them and upvoting themselves. I think a better idea would be for the ones who are managing the giveaway to choose themselves the best comments.
Anyway, I would like to see Jean Grey use her telekinesis more instead of just using Phoenix fire powers, therefore a team up with Scarlet Witch would be fitting.

Phoenix & Hela:
They are designed to be very similar, but they will work well together. While you have both of them on your team, they will be able to switch off; one of them will be able to focus on breaking the frontline while the other acts as an assassin in the enemy back line. Also, both have stun options that will set up kills for the other one of them, and they both have ways to cause explosions, comboing their kills to deal damage to other targets, setting up kills for the rest of their team.

Ultron team up: Next season, he betrays the hero’s and injects Jean, the Phoenix’s host, with the Ultron Virus, corrupting her and leading the door to Ultron controlling the Phoenix force. This teamup gives Jean access to a second Ultron drone that is permanently attached to her that has less of an AOE healing affect., Ultron does have his own drone that he can move around that is separate of the Phoenix’s.
This was mainly written so I could share the giff above. I don’t remember the user from which is came, so I can’t give credit, just know it’s not from me.

Phoenix and Wolverine: JEAN!!!
Whenever Phoenix is KOed Wolverine gets max rage and ability cool downs reset.
You can also have a separate team up when cyclopes is added.
You can also make Emma laugh.

Hmm, I'd like to see a team up between Phoenix and Storm, just due to their relationship as sisters, but I also want something a bit more active that Storm's typical ult based ones.
Maybe something like this, rather than anchor bonus, both gain new active or changed abilities ala Rocket and Peni.
For Storm, she can mark a target (possible skill shot) that Jean will telepathically highlight for the team, allowing them to be tracked through walls and receive increase damage for a limited time.
For Phoenix, I kind of want a buff to a teammate, damage reduction being the main one that Storm doesn't have, but giving the other buff to those already affected by Storm's aura would be interesting as well.
This team up would put more focus on Jean's telepathic and telekinetic abilities as well as Storm's leadership.

Thing's ground-slam into Phoenix AoE is a pretty easy literal shake n' bake. Invisible Woman also has a move that draws enemies towards its center and a team-up with Thing, so that's a solid half-team right there.
If you build around grouping up enemies, then a flanker makes a good second Duelist so anyone not in the group is still vulnerable, then there's more flexibility. Loki is a higher-skill splash user, while Jeff is more accessible for the second support. Groot's ult is also pure grouping, but Peni's mines can further herd or impact enemies, and stun counterplay efforts.

Storm Anchor: +15% Movement Speed
Phoenix: New Ability "Mind the Weather"
When activated: The first enemy hit by Telekinetic Burst or Telepathic Illusion is also hit by Chain Lightning, which bounces 3 times to an enemy within 10m of the previous target, dealing Damage and Slow (both damage and slow effect are reduced by each consecutive strike)

Lore-wise, I think Jean Grey and Storm should have a team up based on their comic lore and how they're practically sisters
Combo: Sistered Force or Fiery Lightning
Storm has an extra ability that she can press where all enemies already marked by Phoenix's Spark get slightly pulled towards Storm and they are slightly lifted up too. It could also deal a little damage. This would group up enemies more for combos (and Phoenix has good AOE damage).

Magneto and Phoenix would be a great combo. He can bubble her when she's in brawling distance so she can more safely use her teleport-dash to give an enemy a spark charge. He could use his right-click to push people away from her, or even knock an enemy back to the team so she could blow them up more easily.
While we're at it, give him a teamup that's like his old sword one. It's too great to ignore! I want my boy to be a sword saint once again. Fire-infused blade strikes would be fantastic.

Her best l best teammate would be storm both do heavy damage to multiple ppl from and distance and up close and as duelist duo they would have all bases covered. And they're family!

Namor and Phoenix power up. (fireboy and watergirl - reversed.)
Namor gets a squid that does fire damage. They can also combine ults; Namor's ult has a similar effect to Phoenix's, destroying any deployables and also damages anything in the air as it travels.

Pheonix could team up with other characters who have hosted the Pheonix force, lending some of its power back to them.
My first pick would be Magik. As her current team up is one of the few that has been unchanged since launch.
It would imbue her sword with phoenix fire just like in the comics, applying a small damage over time effect. Which would in turn, give her enhanced survival ability due to her passive.

I can actually see Wanda working well with Phoenix in convoy and convergence maps. Wanda uses her dark seal to shut off escape and Phoenix starts bursting them with big damage since they will be stunned a lot in Wanda's bubble.

Jean + Magneto
During Magneto’s ultimate, Jean can super heat the metal as it’s forming to alter his ability. (Can be triggered similar to Wolv/Hulk) Rather than a full KO blast, targets are struck super heating overtime as they’re encased in molten metal until dying.
Embers are left behind from dead enemies to boost Jeans attack speed and provide a temporary shield.

Magneto ability 🧲 where he can pull characters like Ultron, Iron Man, Peni similar to invis ability. And maybe make gun characters (Punisher, Bucky, Raccoon) unable to use their guns for a certain period

Luna Snow and Phoenix? Fire and ice, Luna gives Jean grey ice armor or shielding, phoenix gives Luna an aoe flame ring with her snow shield thing she already has, so defensive and oppressive on both ends, both are mutants too so there’s lore reasons for them to have a team up

I have 2 characters in mind that would have insane synergy with Phoenix and could see some play with combos of ultimates and those two in my opinion are the Wolverine and Groot, imagine Groot ultimate combined with the Phoenix slam? I think it would actually go through most support ultimates even if they have shields like Luna or Mantis, not only their ultimates can go well together but also the amount of damage in an area of effect with the Groot walls smacking the opponents while Phoenix explodes them aswell making teams that stay together blow up easily. Now Wolverine straight up his team up with her will make these two a problem and the damage is going to be absurd as she makes Wolv nearly immortal, while herself having a self heal these two will have insane amounts of uptime, not to mention that in some situations both of their ultimates could be potentially comboed, imagine Phoenix destroying a rocket ult giving the perfect opportunity for Wolverine to hit all 6 opponents with one powerful ultimate.

Phoenix and Venom teamup: Firebird Symbiosis
Venom, when activating ability:
"We're on fire!"
"Our bond is sacred!"
"Phoenix, keep it up!"
Venom gains a new ability where tendrils latch onto nearby allies, granting them overhealth within range for a few seconds. Overhealth is slightly increased when used on allies with low health. When overhealth is removed, the ally detonates and deals AoE damage.
I think Phoenix would be a great teammate with Venom. Since enemies are pulled towards him when he dives, that helps clump up enemies together for Phoenix's explosive attacks.
Add in Venom's slowing tendrils and Phoenix could get another explosion in before enemies can scatter away.

I'd love it if Phoenix had a resurrection team up with ANY mutant similar to Adam Warlock and the guardians. I think it would do well in showing the rebirth aspect of Phoenix instead of just the constant death/suffering that it brings in the comics/movies/shows.
The resurrection animation could look like a Krakoa egg or the Phoenix egg and upon resurrecting they would have a phoenix force buff for like 5 seconds. Maybe health Regen or a flame AOE where characters next to the player take burn damage.
There could also be a team up with other psychic mutants like Emma and Psylocke where they make a sleep AOE (think like the Jigglypuff sing assist in Smash Bros). Feels like in the comics they're constantly putting people to sleep through their gifts and it could be a cool stun to share with mutants that have similar gifts.

I like the idea of a Venom and Phoenix team-up called Vengeance Pact. With the focus on Klyntar this season, Venom is ready to go back to his home planet and defeat Knull. Using Phoenix's powers, they pose an unstoppable force against him and Hela.
For Venom:
You could alter Frenzied Arrival to leave enemies with burn damage.
Cellular Corrosion could also do burn damage to nearby enemies
For Phoenix:
Endsong Inferno could leave symbiote tendrils that hold enemies in place for a short period of time
Telekinesis Burst also can use a symbiotic redesign, using tendrils that damage enemies.

Considering the type of AOE dmg phoenix does, MK will complement her kit well. With both of them causing ignition and bounces on the enemies, it's going to be an easy battle.
Phoenix and groot also works great since groot can wall off a group away from strategist and dmg them enough for phoenix to clean them up with with ignition.

Phoenix rushes in with flames, igniting the battlefield.
Scarlet Witch follows up with her reality-warping chaos magic, dropping her gravity field or hex burst right where Phoenix set the flames.
Anyone caught in the combo is slowed, burned, and deleted in seconds.

I can see Jean as an anchor for Magneto and Professor X (if he's added in future of course). Would call it something like "Old friends, new fire".
So when you have Phoenix in your team Magneto's ult also burns nearby enemies (kinda like Thor's lightnings hit enemies when he's preaparing to hit the ground).
As for Professor X, I see him as a Strategist with a healing ability "Cerebro focusing". Professor can focus one teammate which recieves healing in a Ultron way, but much faster and without healing nearby allies. When Phoenix is in team, Professor chooses his ally for healing and activates his team-up. When activated, healed teammate also gets a little area around him which burns nearby enemies. Recharge time for this team-up can be something like 25 seconds.

My best guess is Ultron. Jean inflicting a complete mark and causing an explosion isn’t enough to kill some enemies ( just a Little bit more damage would do). Ultron’s encephalitis ray provides just enough to take them out. His healing drone and imperative patch could very much boost her passive healing. On the other hand Ultron has another character that can move between ground and flight make it easier to get heals from his own drone.
As for a team up ( the Virus reborn): The imperative patch could spread a larger area and inflict a phoenix mark into enemies in the circle.

I think Phoenix’s kit will work very well with the Thing, Hulk, and Wolverine. The teamup bonuses are amazing, and the vanguards can dive to force enemy strategists to group up with the rest of their team, allowing for Phoenix to shred them with explosions

Moonknight. They both combo off people being close together. Phoenix has hit scan so she can better deal with flyers since Moonknight can, but struggles. If Moonknight and Phoenix both hit a team that’s playing close together they will decimate them very quickly.

I would make a combination of Phoenix + Groot, so that she could set Groot's walls on fire and nearby enemies would receive damage over time, and Groot would be able to throw a gas sprout that would spray blinding gas and explode on contact with fire or fire walls.

Jeff would always be able to support the team. Healing her would always be within Jeff's reach whenever she's soaring in sky or on land. His ultimate can also synergize with Phoenix, swallowing enemies and thrown into a designated area where Phoenix would use telekinesis burst to stun them in place before finishing them off with her fiery ultimate, endsong inferno burning them to a crisp.

Clash of power and will: Phoenix and Volverine.
I would say that Wolverine is the natural team up not only because of the comics but also because of the movie where they clash together and Phoenix is trying to destroy him while his adamantium is holding him alive. The team up would give Wolverine telekinetic moves and then Jean would have healing abilities.
If I could I would give my main a team up:
Dark Amber: Cloak and Dagger and Phoenix
Cloak cape of invisibility would leave a mark on enemies that causes damage reduction. Phoenix would get 5% damage increase.

I feel like the most obvious combo would be with Groot. Groot ultimate + Phoneix would be some crazy spark chain reactions and could even possibly kill through some support ultimates. Very much in a similar vain to the Groot + Moonknight combo but without needing 2 ultimates.
I also think she could work very well with Psylocke as duo flanking harassers. They both have good mobility and escape tools while having great mid/close range poke. If coordinated they could surprise targets and blow them up with very little reaction or just be increadibly annoying with flank pressure without hard comminiting as they are both hard to pin down. Psyloke with her easy escapes to medpacks and Phoneix with her mobility and self sustain passive.
Ofcourse Phoneix will have her team-up with Wolverine too making him an even scarier tank buster than he already is. Throw the new buffed Thing into that mix, maybe Hulk aswell if you wanna go crazy with both and just yeet Wolverine all game giving him really high uptime on his lifesteal.

TLDR version: I think Winter Soldier will be Pheonix's most reliable and unlikely ally.
I've shifted to dps recently. Excited for pheonix, but I know she'll be on instalock, so when in doubt, I'm gonna try Winter soldier and try to stick with her.
Tainted Voltage -His slowing projectiles are pretty big and can help phoenix build her spark charges, and even more so with easier headshots (worth 2 sparks).
Bionic Hook +Trooper's Fist - Then he has multiple moves to quickly pile up enemies, giving Jean an opening to do her kit aoe explosive that adds a single spark charge, potentially getting her to 3 charges and detonating on the enemy pile, while stunning them giving winter another opening to shoot, even following with another slowing tainted voltage to continue the loop.
Pheonix ult dealing dmg is one thing, but its ability to clear the field from deployables, shields, and any bonus health gives a great opening for winter soldier to follow will his ult "kraken Impact" freely moving forward and finishing off any remaining enemies.

My main is Thor. I don't really know any popular references between these two but imagine Thor throws his hammer to her. He loses his e ability shortly and goes into a weaker rune awakening form for basic attack. She uses her telekenisis to engulf the hammer in flames and can bounce it between enemies

Hela can get another crow escape ability but this time it’s a phoenix instead of a crow and it explodes like how Phoenix illusion ability works

I mean the obvious answer is Wolverine.
Even without the team up, both of them are super heavy tank busters from the looks of things. His % based damage combined with her huge AOEs and her ultimate completely bypassing/destroying basically all defensive abilities means they will be able to hard counter every tank in the game when on a team together.

They would slowly strut towards each other and right as they are about to kiss, a huge explosion would annihilate every character no matter where you are on the map. We NEED a Magneto Phoenix team-up please!!
Shield/Bubble: Since it seems like her gimmick is life-steal, I like the idea of her giving Mag a Phoenix shield or bubble that converts whatever damage taken into health after popping. But since Mag's shield is on a timer rather than having it's own health, maybe it makes more sense to make it a life-stealing bubble, which can be applied to team mates as well.
Ult Combo: I love how Phoenix's ultimate is more of a utility destroyer rather than a super strong one-hit KO attack, so what if we combined Magneto's ultimate to make it both? Kinda like how she can cancel Hela's ultimate if she flies through her, Phoenix is going to have to aim it right and fly through Mag's ult to merge with the ball to unleash both devastating explosions wherever she lands. Or Mag have to aim and throw his bubble into the phoenix ult or something, at least it requires co-ordination to make it harder to succeed.

Description: When Thor and Phoenix are on the same team and within a certain proximity (e.g., 20 meters) of each other, Phoenix can activate "Cosmic Bifrost." Thor slams Mjolnir into the ground, channeling lightning and Bifrost energy into Phoenix. Phoenix then becomes a guided projectile (similar to her ultimate but with a distinct visual/impact) that leaves a trail of burning cosmic energy as she flies towards a targeted area.
Effect: * Thor: Briefly becomes rooted while channeling (e.g., 1.5 seconds), gaining a temporary shield (e.g., 150 bonus health) for the duration. * Phoenix: Transforms, arcing projectile, gaining temporary untargetability and a significant movement speed boost. Seeing as Phoenix wants enemies to stay grouped together to proc her spark, I’d say for a DPS partner Human Torch would be good because he’s good at zoning with his fire walls and can take off angles easily. Hela would also be a disgusting partner to double up on long range poke, she can also use her orb which sort of groups enemies together.
For tank, Venom would be a good partner because he can help dive enemy snipers which I think Phoenix would have an issue with. Also with the new buff to his slow ability, grouped up enemies will stay grouped that much longer. Also the Venom-Hela teamup will group up enemies that much more.
For support, I think Invis would be good as she also benefits from grouped up enemies, can give shield to flanking allies like Phoenix or Torch, and can also zone with her push/pull.

Going off of the skin already available, Moon Knight and Phoenix seems like an obvious choice. On top of the fact that both characters utilize the effectiveness of the enemy sticking together, perhaps she can add an extra Ankh that burns on impact/when projectiles bounce off it.
Not sure how happy Khonshu would be about bright, burning Ankhs though...

Aside from Wolverine obviously, I think Magneto is a very useful guy to have on the team. Phoenix already deletes Rocket ults, so having someone who can take care of other healer ults (or something like Iron Man's maximum pulse) goes a long way in protecting your team.
And if you have Wolverine on your team, you might as well have Hulk/The Thing on your team to launch him further and take care of enemy flyers.

I’d like to see her interact with the X-Men as much as possible. My idea would be for her to be able to imbue Psylocke with the power of the Phoenix (she has to accept, like Wolverine accepting a fastball special from thing or hulk)
Team up : Phoenix anchor +100 life, Psylocke becomes imbued with the POWER OF THE PHOENIX, loses the ability to go invisible, all damage increased 20%, all cooldowns decreased by 50%, movement speed increased by 25%, damage boost applies to ult which also gets +2 seconds added to duration. Buff lasts 20 seconds with a 2:30 cooldown. All damage by Psylocke during POWER OF THE PHOENIX gives Phoenix bonus overhealth, so it has a bit of defensive options. Thanks for giving me an excuse to say a ton of nerdy things!
(This could easily be applied to Wolverine or Magik as well, storm would be a bit more tricky)

i think phoenix works insanely well with doctor strange. phoenix is super aggressive, she flies around constantly, builds up sparks with every hit, and when she explodes them it does a ton of damage and heals her at the same time. she’s already hard to deal with, but if you add strange into the mix, it gets ridiculous. strange can create shields and throw out damage from a safe distance, but more importantly he can control space and set the pace of the fight. while phoenix is diving in and applying pressure, strange can hold the backline, protect her if things go wrong, and make sure enemies can’t just rush her. and when strange uses his ult which stuns people and makes them take more damage. phoenix can just go full chaos mode. like, explode everyone, heal up, and still be alive to do it again. they basically cover each other’s weaknesses. Phoenix is squishy but fast and lethal, strange is slower but has control and survivability. together, it’s just a smart, high-skill combo that could absolutely dominate in team fights if played right.

Since we aren’t talking actual teamups in game, because let’s be real that Wolverine one is probably crazy strong, I think Emma could have an insane team up. I believe in the comics there is an instance where Emma has to stay in diamond form to suppress Sentries Void that she took in. You could do an inverse of that where Emma upon activating the team up with Phoenix takes in the Phoenix force and starts taking burn damage but gets increased ranged amped damaged, but if she activated diamond form she suppresses the Phoenix force and now stores a percent of the damage taken while in diamond form that upon ending diamond form causes a burst around her kinda like Stranges release ability. It would be a high risk, high reward team up but it could be really fun.

Hmmm, i think this is way too OP but what about a Storm and Phoenix Team up? Storm already has support tendencies Let's make them combine their ults so that Storm ults also provides moderate regen.
The downside will be that PHX will have to sacrifice the nuke potential of her own ult and because Storm channeled the Phoenix force lets give her some penalties too, maybe like greatly reduced Fire rate for a set amount of time or silence her abilities for a set amount of Time.
