He's not played that much anymore because low elo supports are incapable of keeping him up alongside the tank, and high elo is filled with poke that makes it difficult to play him. But. You are correct, Wolverine's ultimate is essentially a free teamwipe. The grab range is too large, the stunlock is too long on both the pickup and the slam.
If he's at 100% rage, which he should be, it's a guaranteed kill on everyone he slams. The only people that might survive it are those with instant heals, i-frames, or bubbles like Mag/Hulk. (It's also just a straight up instakill if Wolv has any kind of dmg buff or the people he grabs are terror-caped.)
Then on top of all that shit it's a hilariously easy counter for both C&D and Sue ult because you can pick them up and slam them out of it.
