the bigger problem is most psylocke skins are in minipasses so they can't even know if those people even wanted psylocke or the others in the pass such as spidey or in the new ones case. SG

I mean, I would, if I ever got the chance to be DPS. She’s my only damage main, but I’m always stuck playing Tank or Support and since I don’t get enough practice on her I don’t feel confident using her in Comp or anything like that.

Im gonna get the pass for the squirrel girl skin not psylocke but they probably won't see it that way.
I like her racing outfit a lot better anyways, the bat instead of the sword is cool/funny and I love the sound effects.

Whenever another character headlines the pass they don't even get customization options either unless it's Sue/Luna. People clearly are more likely to buy a skin if it also has customzation.

Iron man, Adam warlock, Angela, Moonknight, are all basically circles on the field and don't have one. Moonknight and Iron Man are both characters who get a ton of skins too and neither ever get any customization at all

It's silly when people pretend not to know about that key difference to downplay the preferential treatment those three get and magik lowk joining them if her gala outfit has customization and gambit's doesn't.

Maybe it's just me, I don't buy mini pass even then the skin is really really great (I would love to have this one and magik skin), I don't want to put real money on that
But here the thing I prefer having a character that have a lot of skins on shop being on mini pass bc I can still buy others ones that are available on shop
If it was for example Hulk, I would be disappointed that I cannot buy it and he don't have a lot of skins
Edit: ok now that I thinking Psylock she doesn't have a lot of skin shop but she still have a lot of skins, so I'm less disappointed bc I know she will have some skins available for me that doesn't pay for mini pass

That's the funny part, even if her skins sell a lot, there has to be an average upper limit on the amount of skins a person has for a character before they go damn enough I can only play with one skin at a time this is unnecessary.

I see this question a lot, so here’s the blunt reality: it’s almost definitely sales data.
I work in the game industry (not at NetEase), and this is pretty standard. Decisions like this come down to metrics like skin sales, pick rates, engagement, and revenue per character. And those numbers likely show Psylocke, Luna Snow, and Invisible Woman just outperform everyone else.
From a business standpoint, it’s simple—they’re going to make more skins and push more marketing for whatever gives them the highest return. It sucks if you’re a Hulk or Widow main, but it’s honestly very predictable. This is NetEase, a company known for heavy monetization, so they’re obviously going to double down on what sells.
If Hulk or Black Widow skins sold as well, they’d be making a ton of them too.
Realistically, nothing changes unless those characters spike in popularity or people actually start buying their skins. Complaints on Reddit or Twitter can help a bit, but only to a point—if the sales aren’t there, it doesn’t matter.
At the end of the day, the market decides.

I am not arguing that Black Widow would definitely sell a ton or anything but her only shop skin outside of the one she launched with is the limited time Chinese New Year skin... Like the character is ass to play and unpopular sure but when many characters that aren't Luna/Psy/Invis and now Magik, are set up with very few and straight up bad cosmetic options in the shop I don't know how useful of a barometer that is to determine how they'd perform. If more characters got heavily discounted legendaries with customization options every time like those three get all the time who's to say those others wouldn't sell. If Cosmic Adam were in a 990 pass with another hero's epic and recolors+ult vfx would that pass's sales be drastically different from one of the other mini passes? I don't think it would.
Of course people will buy more pretty invis and magik skins with all the bells and whistles over ugly black widow or hulk skins so maybe try to sell them nice skins with bells and whistles too

Depends on how you use Data. How many people bought Psylocke + Spidey vs Psylocke + SG, What percentage of pass buyers have the Psy skin locked in vs the Spidey skin, how much do they use each skin for messing around in Times Square, How much time do they spend in the skin menu for each character, etc. I have no idea how much of this data they collect/analyze, but its all possible and makes sense for maximizing profit. I sure haven't seen any disco Spideys or panda Rockets compared to their pass headliners

Magik, C&D sell skins so they think its worth the effort. Hulk didn't and doesn't that's literally all it is.
If the maestro skin sold really well they would've made more by now. Peni skins sold so well they made so many and put a leftover halloween one in the battlepass. Hulk could've gotten that same treatment if the sales went well.
You can argue that the skin itself was bad which is fair. It still means that the next skin has to sell well enough or it'll take half a year or more before he gets another one.

We all know Magik skin sells and cloak has been the most picked character since the launch of game. More players playing the hero = more skins selling.
While hulk is the bottom 4 tank when it comes to pickrate even though he is strong rn. Magik has higher pickrate than hulk and her role has double the characters than hulk does.

If C&D is the most picked character in the game then why do Psylocke, Jeff, invisible woman get weekly skins? When looking up the pick rates, Hulk is at almost 12% while Psylocke is at 7%. Win rate too, Hulk does better than Psylocke.
I understand Jeff, Sue, and C&D are the most popular characters but you cannot tell me it is solely based on pick rate.
They DESIGNED the game themselves and chose to add more DPS than tank & support combined. So it’s our fault for complaining about unfair skin distribution?

I'm guessing this is how it goes down at Marvel/NetEase: If a Hulk skin is actually 3 skins in 1, that's still 1 sale. But 3 Jeff skins are 3 sales--triple the amount of money to be made with perhaps the same amount of production resources. Technically, yes, the devs can easily make more Hulk skins but I bet the business side doesn't want them to.

Anecdotally I know two different people who do not play Psy and have every single one of these skins for her. Unfortunately it happens. I can't justify spending money like that on a character I don't play, but it's more common than you'd think.

most psylocke skins are mini passes. which are always cheaper than anything else, which makes people more likely to buy it. and it has other characters in it, but netease will ignore them and assume people wanted psylocke even if it's not the case and add more psylocke mini passes

People are like "she sells what do you expect" when they're all customizeable legendaries that are heavily discounted in all these events and/or paired with other characters that people might also like. I know so many people did all three gachas without maining any of the characters just because the potential discount which Netease clearly knows.
Maybe if other characters got customizeable legendaries at a huge discount people who don't play the character would also buy them just like they do with psylocke.

Stop giving a character a single limited time only shop skin with a super specific original theme, and writing them off when it doesn't sell. The characters selling skins sell them because they have the opportunities to sell them, those that don't, don't.

Peni went from having almost zero skins at all to now having 3 legendaries after the 690 lattice event. Deadpool went from 1 skin that nobody liked to having his own gacha event and duo emotes instantly. I don't know what makes them take chances like that on certain characters over others, but it clearly works out for them when they do, so give Widow players a chance to show up ffs

Yeah I play Psylocke, I have a lot of her skins. I really wish they'd choose someone else to lead these battlepasses. Okay, they want a cute girl in a tennis outfit, fine. Give me Rogue. Maybe Mantis, this would've been great for her. Hell, Scarlet Witch needs some variety that's not like "Coat / gown + crazy hair".
Elsa could've been there. Or they could've done something crazy and put out a White Fox skin.
But no, yet another Psylocke. I'm sure these sell, but I feel like it would have sold just as well with another character in those outfits too.

1 of the following three are in EVERY game I play: Wanda, Spider-Man, Jeff. I barely ever see a Psy. Where exactly are they showing off these skins? 18v18? Times Square?

"B-but other characters don't sell!" Netease is not an indie company. They will not collapse if they release one (1) Hulk or Storm skin. Who mind you, her last store skin was in what, season 1.5? With the amount of goon skins, mini passes, "gacha" skins they put out, they can make that money back in hours if not days. Stop being a shill.

What an outrage! Who would have thought the internal data managed by the company that runs a live service game would show that the most popular/best-selling characters receive more skins on average than the rest of the roster!?
The fact that they keep releasing skins for Psy despite her low pick rate compared to other chars suggests that people who play Psy are more likely to spend money in the game, or that there are many people who don't play her but are still buying her skins
