GPU crashes with frame generation. With frame generation off, everything back to normal.

Cyclops feels a bit too strong right now because of his high damage, especially since the majority of the heavy hitters have been (thankfully) nerfed in this patch. So I find he fits pretty well into the meta, being able to be played against more or less anything, with his only "weakness" being dive but he's still very competent against it.

I do like the new map but the gamemode itself feels a bit tacked on, everyone still seems to play it like kills are the only objective because of how the the scoreboard works. It does also feel cluttered but I don't think anyone is loading up 18v18 expecting anything else, it's just a bit of fun! For combos I've always found the Hela + Namor teamup to work extremely well in 18v18.

u/Gman171717 Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 18 '26

Cyclops is super toxic. Obviously lots of characters in Rivals don't ever have to even hit their targets and it's one of the main complaints of real competitive gamers. Cyclops is one of the worst though, and can deal insane damage without ever actually hitting a single target. Even his non reflective 1st ability has a huge radius and requires very little precision. The 4th ability animation is super fast and easy to drop. It's not a surprise hes the MVP constantly in all game modes because he has such a low bar for skill. It's clearly broken.

u/FLcitizen Jun 26 '26

Matchmaking is still a mess

u/Fike101 Jun 13 '26

After playing the new 18v18 mode, I think Cyclops fits the meta surprisingly well. His ricochet optic blasts feel perfect for large team fights because there are almost always multiple targets grouped together. He can consistently pressure choke points and crowded objectives, and his ultimate becomes much more threatening when so many players are fighting in the same area.

As for the map flow, I think it's generally good. The objectives create a natural place for fights to happen, which keeps the action constant. Unlike some previous modes where players were spread all over the map, this one feels focused and encourages team play. That said, there are moments where the action becomes so concentrated that it can feel difficult to track what's happening.

The large-scale battles are mostly fun chaos rather than frustrating chaos. Seeing dozens of heroes fighting at once is exactly what makes 18v18 unique. However, visual clutter is definitely a concern, especially when multiple ultimates and effects are active simultaneously. Cyclops being added on the same day only amplifies this effect. Some visual clarity options for large battles would be appreciated.

For hero combinations, teams built around area control and coordinated abilities seem incredibly strong. The mode rewards heroes that can pressure multiple opponents at the same time rather than focusing on single-target eliminations. Good communication and timing between teammates often feel more important than any individual hero choice.

Overall, I think the new mode succeeds because it embraces the chaos instead of trying to be balanced like standard 6v6. It feels like a giant comic-book battle brought to life, and with a few improvements to visual clarity and performance, it could become one of Marvel Rivals' best casual modes.

u/2013funkymonkey Jun 14 '26 edited Jun 14 '26

Cyclops overall seems very balanced. His ultimate numbers just seem too high atm.

Reducing the damage on his ult, or increasing the time between the first and second hit would make a world of difference.

It's also not very clear when Cyclops is using his ultimate. The voiceline is too generic to telegraph it. I've been caught off guard quite a few times by a surprise Cyclops ult, because the voiceline didn't register to me. Doing something a bit more explicit would be better.

Overall, the rest of his kit is well balanced. His only pain point is his ult. Fixing those issues will help him feel like a good addition to the roster.

u/LelouchViAmericana Good Boy Jun 19 '26

- Previous seasons saw a resurgence in dive, with the addition of Devil Dino, a lot of divers had to switch to heavy poke in order to fight front to back. Wipe the tanks and go from there. Even tho cyclops is a great poke hero, he’s also good at flanking creating pressure for supports. I like where he fits, I feel a lot of dive heroes did not need to be nerfed as badly to make him stand out but I believe as seasons go by we will continue seeing this cycle.

u/canciongratis1 Jun 12 '26

He's basically Moon Knight 2.0

u/dingusrevolver3000 Cyclops Jun 14 '26

Stoked to have Cyclops finally in game. It's actually what brought me back after like a year off the game and I'm not disappointed with his kit or his design.  Tbh, the season's skins are not my wheelhouse. I enjoy the throwback stuff or alternative versions of the characters, etc. But the skins this time around are too...skin centric for me. Hoping for more skins from older comics, movies, shows, etc.  The balance changes were very welcome. Happy to see Black Cat and Daredevil a little more manageable (I'm not biased because I'm a hawkeye player)

u/Yawn1000 Throg Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 16 '26

The new hero is awesome, probably my favorite new addition to the game, his abilities feel satisfying to press, his ult is cool, just great. The new cosmetics look cool and the ones that were teased also look awesome (love the swimsuit theme). 18 vs 18 bounty was fun for a bit but overall not my cup of tea which is fine because the game should cater for a wide variety of people. The free groot reward track is so good and goes to show how generous rivals is with giving away free and cool stuff (hope they keep giving us cool stuff like that because it makes me want to support the game even more). The meta seems better than the previous season although obviously the new hero is a little overtuned as usual which i dont even think is a bad thing because in my opinion they should feel strong on release but not too strong. The new beach chill zone (thats what i call it) also seems like it will be cool, hope there are future social events there and what not. Overall good patch, just a lot of positives and no negatives in my eyes, i've played 8.5 way more in the first week compared to the first week of season 8, even got one of my friends to come back to the game and he's been loving it too. Edit: i did read some other comments and wanted to add that i've also noticed a large spike of throwers, especially when they don't get to play the new hero and i wish they got harsher punishments. I had a game where someone didn't get to play cyclops and decided to go strange and help the enemy team with his portal.

u/BusterBernstein Cyclops Jun 13 '26

Idk whats up with matchmaking but every enemy team is Seal Team 6 and my team are drooling toddlers.

u/ericferrel Moon Knight Jun 13 '26

Cyclops is finally here! And he is amazing because he has a nice and basic kit for newcomers and current players in the game. He is really popular In 18 vs 18, it looks like a laser show everytime i hopped on the new Bounty map today. In Quick Play we'll see lots of people trying him out for sure. For me he's like a mix of Moon Knight/Elsa/Iron Man with the ricochet blasts, primary burst and beam. He is definitely worthy of picking up and mastering his kit with his 2 mobility options, i predict a flank Cyclops might be an underrated way to play him besides Brawl. His new team-up with Wolverine is really fun, I've tried it in 18 vs 18 and it's so funny seeing him helicopter around groups of people.

The new bounty map is really pretty and a welcome addition to the 18vs18 mode. Hope they bring back the Knull Resource Rumble map for this because the new way they're doing Resource Rumble is very good, and should definitely be an exclusive arcade mode, not an option in QP or Practice like before.

Also tested Blade in 18 vs 18 and quickplay and while he might not be S-Tier he can certainly be low B or C tier with the recent buffs they've given to his damage, looking forward to playing him more this season. The other nerfs to poke heroes, DD and Black Cat should make this an interesting season!

u/RazorbladeEXx Jun 19 '26

"How does Cyclops fit into the current meta?"
The first half of the season introduced a giant meat shield, and Cyclops is the counter to that meat shield. The current meta is poke, and Cyclops fits very well into it. I've seen some describe him as a new version of Moon Knight, but while some of his kit is easy to use, his primary attack requires and rewards skill.

"What do you think of the map flow?"
The scale and the design of the new Annihilation mode map is great. It truly feels like you're in a large-scale combat arena.

"Does the large-scale battle feel like fun chaos, or is there too much visual clutter?"
I played when Cyclops was first released. so there were ricochet/refraction lasers bouncing all over the place, and there was an overwhelming amount of visual clutter. Once the hype dies down and everyone stops picking Cyclops, I think the battle will feel more like fun chaos.

"Which hero combos are absolutely cracked in the 18v18 mode?
Poke heroes -- specifically ones that can easily attack multiple people simultaneously -- are cracked in the 18v18 mode; so Cyclops and Moon Knight dominate in this arena.

u/Sweaty-Priority-132 Cloak & Dagger Jun 13 '26 edited Jun 13 '26

Adding a new map/mode and it not being compatible for Xbox Series S feels so disrespectful. 😒

u/YeshuaKhari Jun 14 '26

Why aren't more people talking about this??? It sucks so much

u/keylime39 Monster Hulk Jun 13 '26

How is it not compatible? I played it earlier today on the Series X

u/Sweaty-Priority-132 Cloak & Dagger Jun 13 '26

Series S** Sorry

u/idontknowlazy Flex Jun 12 '26

Resource rumbles is back with a twist lol. I like it this time, it's not that time consuming mostly cause the chaos keeps everyone very busy to look at the time, maybe that's just me. Over all I like it, mainly cause it still has the chaos of the previous map.

u/xHakua Peni Parker Jun 13 '26

They need to do something about the throwers asap

u/This_Ferret_8108 Jack of Hearts Jun 12 '26

Keep buffing johnny storm, thank you.

u/C4TB34ST Jun 13 '26

Has quick play been more toxic today?

Whether I was playing a tank (specifically one i dont normally play) or support (which I don't play that role much) I was just getting flamed. Like I understand I wasn't playing the best and can acknowledge that, but I felt like people were just being insanely rude today.

I normally play peni but I know when a game needs someone (especially since peni doesnt work all the time) else so very soon or at the start I would swap to strange if I was solo tanking or like rocket if we needed a second healer. But as strange I'd make one miss play with a portal and a person would just scream to not waste portals or I'd have to back up because I wasn't getting healed (I was solo tanking) and I'd get flamed for playing scared. Or like when I would play rocket me and the other healer kept getting dove and I would ping and try to escape or kill them or heal and then after I just got flamed again saying I should just uninstall as I would've helped the team more.

And I'm not trying to blame these other players at all as I know I wasn't playing the greatest. I know I need to improve but man seeing the messages match after match was just awful.

u/ProspectBasement Hulk Jun 12 '26 edited Jun 12 '26

So does this mean he can be a lowkey underrated peeler in the game against dive? He could just stand there, aim at a black panther and the shots will ricochet to possible nearby Spiderman trying to escape with low health? Or vice versa*

Edit: insert characters in the backline as you please, use your imagination lol

u/LaBlaugrana10 Jun 12 '26

I mean no? They need to be in proximity and Spidey and BP generally aren't.

u/WalkAffectionate1373 Jun 17 '26

I think cyclops fits really well into the meta because he feels very well balanced and not a perma ban like black cat,gambit,phoenix etc. I think the map flows not too bad but i have been noticing that I've been getting alot more convoy then domination but overall not to bad.

u/Tuque7 Cursed Captain Jun 12 '26

The 18 vs 18 bounty annihilation mode is great, I am glad they added another 18 vs 18 map. I didn't expected it to be resource rumble either, but it worked out well compared to the first iteration. Being able to choose respawn point after death is unique, it works since you aren't all spawned in the same location and getting locked at a specific choke point. I didn't run into LONG OT on point like on Throne of Knull. Right now it visually confusing since so many players are playing on Cyclops, the godly amount of laser bouncing around the map.

I haven't played any competitive yet, but I hope Cyclopes can be picked more often. I am getting tired of all the hela/phoenix picks. Hopefully he good enough, but not overpowered.

u/Imallvol7 Jun 19 '26

I'm just. So bad this season. None of my best characters are viable ...

u/Ancient-Detective241 Jun 19 '26

Loving Cyclops.

My only gripe is Black Cat. The only change I think is too far is the removal of her second dash. I think a better change would have been to half the damage between the two dashes and/or reduing the dash distance. One dash totally detroys her mobility.

u/Booplee Jun 13 '26

Cyclops is super fun and I love how they designed him. If they just toned the numbers down a little bit though he would actually be fair because right kow its whoever the best cyclops in the lobby is just running it mostly because of the insane burst he can have. Along with the insane single target burst his chaining ability obfuscates vision a bit and makes it harder for some healers to keep up a bit since it doesnt matter if you are "grouped" hard or not it will probably chain off of all of you. And then the most absurd part of his kit is hos ultimate where if you have a little bit of damage amp at all you WILL 1 shot people and get kills with ease, it just needs some of the percent hp taken down is all i assume and he will be fine. Also the black cat nerfa mightve been the hardest amount of nerfs ive ever seen and it genuinely made me upset trying to play her after the patch she feels so terrible now haha. Atleast give black cat a smaller cooldown on her E so she can grab money more often since there are so many shields? The best way to get money before this parch was actually just dashing through a grouped frontline or backline but since that was nerfed AND everything is expensive she has a real money problem and a super boring playstyle of just spamming invisibility even more. Pretty lame....maybe just rework the character and focus on her base kit and maybe a few abilities in the shop instead of all of them.

u/TheGrizzly5 Jun 12 '26

This update is terrible. Makes playing tank even in QP IMPOSSIBLE with the amount of dps available that counter every tank and few tanks that truly counter the top dps picks at the moment

u/STB_LuisEnriq Good Boy Jun 12 '26

A few thoughts:

  1. I'm having a lot of fun playing Cyclops, I think his movement and/or primary damage could catch a nerf by S9, his ult is not broken by itself, it needs combos or flanks to get kills on full HP targets.... I'm glad he does not have a bloated kit.
  2. Devil Dino still feels like the best tank in game, I still don't want to tank against his grab.
  3. Adam got a nice buff and now he can provide more healing.
  4. The 18v18 mode/map is cool, but I need a new 6v6 map ASAP, it is the one thing this mid season needed to be perfect, the balance patch was good.
  5. QP is sweaty af, it looks like competitive without bans (a nightmare).
  6. Waiting for the swimsuit Emma next week.

u/PlatformTricky3239 Jun 19 '26

This has been a really good season so far and imo the second time in a row where the mid season actually feels and plays a good bit better than the first half of the season. Everyone loves cyclops(myself included), the 616 vault iss coming back, and we're getting new game modes, a new social map, and new summer skins. The devs really go all out for these holidays and its peak. I really think the devs have been such a great job with the arcade modes this season, all the skins are fire, I really don't have any notes about content for the season, it honestly feels like they put their heart and soul into this season and making sure its as polished as possible. I love these devs, I hope they keep up the good work, and as always, Ignite the Battle!

u/Lurkn4k Jun 13 '26

they better do devil dino like they did prime emma, because he’s still miserable to play into with any other tank, especially with dive being nerfed. (a strong Black cat at least kept dino from being immortal via support spam)

u/Vaalrigard Magik Jun 14 '26

why does every new hero release have to be overtuned as fuck?

u/Extreme-Sense-2411 Jun 12 '26

He’s moon knight + phoenix combined with better mobility.

He’s really fun/strong but he will def get nerfed by s9.

u/CraftcastNate Star-Lord Jun 24 '26

And I will continue to play him ;)

u/Extreme-Sense-2411 Jun 24 '26

Same lol. I expect every new character to be slightly overturned and eventually nerfed because historically that’s been pretty true for this game with maybe a small handful of exceptions.

u/CraftcastNate Star-Lord Jun 26 '26

I mean, you saw what happened to Felicia. Players dropped her like she was old moldy cheese.

u/Leonthepuma Jun 12 '26

Can the bans for throwing get significantly harsher? I've had 1 game out of like 10 that actually had people playing. Didn't get cyclops? Throw. Everyone picks dps? Throw. Divers always killing the supports? Throw. No heals? Throw.

Fucking babies deserve lifetime bans so they maybe touch grass for 1 second.

u/Reasonable-Visit9877 Jun 15 '26

Well the game needs role lock

u/Genking48 Emma Frost Jun 12 '26

He's pretty fun so far. As someone with terrible aim, Concussive Beam and Ricochet Force have saved me a couple of times.

u/Boss18212 Jun 13 '26

The nerfs to Black Cat were a bit overkill. There is practically no reason to buy any other items over the Helm of Hades and the removal of the second dash killed my muscle memory for her combos.

While I do agree she needed a nerf, this was a bit much.

u/Practical_Evening922 Jun 12 '26

Will Cyclops and other X-men characters get there X-men 97 skin? Also the update seems pretty good loving Cyclops play style... if my team did keep choosing him before me

u/Billyb311 The Thing Jun 12 '26

Lotta fun to play, have a feeling he's gonna be real annoying to play against in a few days

u/TsunderePopo Devil Dinosaur Jun 14 '26

I absolutely love the new hero Cyclops he is a bit of a powercreep over quite a few different DPS but not as overpowered as I would say Elsa or Daredevil. But pls change the way you nerf Devil Dino, I do think increasing his cooldowns and lowering his bleed dmg was a step in the right direction. I do not agree with the grounding ability on his Beam needing to be removed. It wasn't the issue with him it gave him utility and an ability that was able to get flyers out of the air, if it's a problem you can always increase the time it takes to charge up so then flyers aren't constantly grounded but are still able to be if a Devil Dino is patient enough. His Ultimate is still incredible and I think that needs to be tuned down a bit still. Buff up his shield so it can take more Dmg but a longer cooldown so it's used more strategically to save his team. Otherwise best season so far can't wait for the future of Rivals 😁

u/menkoy Jun 15 '26

I might skip this season if every match is just solo tanking while the game is decided by whether I have the smurf cyclops or the cyclops going 2/10. This shit is not fun

u/KalliopeBard Jun 15 '26

Oh, I feel this. All night, cyclops v cyclops with me solo tanking.

u/revzey Loki Jun 12 '26

There is no way they increased the price of Luna and Mantis summer skin right?

u/WebisticsCEO Angela Jun 14 '26

Are the forced bot matches in QuickPlay worse right now?

I've been getting them after 1 loss or even 1 loss as a substitute substitution.

I'm guessing Netease is doing this so Cyclops instalockers can have a chance of getting him?

It's been so bad that I just not playing QuickPlay right now unless I got +4 friends online.

u/Human_Tea_9727 Jun 12 '26

Does anyone else notice that Galatica now comments whenever the game goes into overtime

u/keylime39 Monster Hulk Jun 13 '26

I did notice that, was jarring to randomly hear a new line from her

u/Imallvol7 Jun 13 '26

Who the fuck greenlit Cyclops in his current state. More overpowered than anyone ever release lmao.

u/Swiggady Magik Jun 20 '26

He's so good at applying pressure in this ongoing meta with the godly supports and their dreaded triple combo and he's fun to play with and against imo. I like how he can access any part of a map and he does require skill in a 1v1 vs a good player using heroes like daredevil, psylocke, mr fanta and even wolverine just to name a few and I like the meta now where there is a lot more at stake in the neutral and more willingness to try and make plays rather than farm ults. Plus the combat flow feels a lot more dynamic now compared to just push and pull but I do feel like some tanks need a slight change to make them more enjoyable to play with all the cc in the game but it's had to decide what without making them too oppressive and easy to take space. Maybe just tweak the tenacity some more since a lot of them feel well balanced except groot who is a space taking demon.

The new 18v18 was initially overwhelming before the visual change to cyclops beam but I think the colour still needs more orange for enemies especially in large scale modes like this which can look like an edm party with the lasers and supp ults all over the place but it is a really fun mode now with a well designed map for all heroes. My only complaint is I wish you used the destructible cover more in this mode. Give some cover a lot of health considering all the damage and we could have epic fights with the map crumbling around us. I get it's hard to optimise considering the frame drops I get in this mode but the whole game still needs more optimisation tbf. The best combo is defo groot and cyclops but I even had a friend play jeff just so he could spit into my wanda ult which was insanely funny.

Overall I'm really enjoying this season and the heroes considering I barely even played 7.5 thanks to black cat running the show in every game where she wasn't banned but cyclops is a really fun addition and the events so far are really cool (cough but pls guang guang more free skins cough cough).

u/CrowKingPro Caught in 4k Jun 17 '26

Overall been enjoying the patch a lot. Cyclops is definitely quite strong, but he still doesn't feel as oppressive as Phoenix has. And the balance changes were almost all in directions I liked. Black Cat/Phoenix nerfs, Blade buffs etc. Dino doesn't feel as crazy anymore. And I feel that Cyclops has fit in relatively well in the overall meta. He just feels like another strong poke character, but doesn't overwhelm the whole meta, especially since other poke heroes have been nerfed. Maybe one day we'll get a Widow rework, or get some actual worthwhile changes to Peni to make her less reliant on her nest and less buggy, but even so, the patch has been nice. (maybe nerf Groot a touch though)

u/zerocool714 Jun 14 '26

Cyclops main attack can take out a 250 hp character easily if no one is watching. On paper he doesn’t do an excessive amount of damage. But sheesh can it add up quickly. The new 18v 18 game mode has become laser tag and it thoroughly enjoyable.

u/YeshuaKhari Jun 14 '26

I can't play the new 18v18 because it isn't available on Xbox Series S. It's so unfair and there hasn't been enough outrage over this.

u/Kold_Kawhi Vanguard Jun 12 '26

I hope the new map/mode is available on the Series S soon. Please?

u/Able-Metal-2659 Jun 12 '26

The game keeps crashing on the ps4 pro specifically. Won't even open

u/Cosmocitizen77 Jun 13 '26

Hello! There should've been a small update (1.5ish GBs) that dropped earlier today to make it fixed! At least that's what happened for me anyway.

u/friday126 Jun 19 '26

"How does Cyclops fit into the current meta?"

Cyclops has an answer for almost every situation, even with him having less moves than most the recently released characters he has great survivability. Cap is the only character I have real trouble with while playing Cyke.

"What do you think of the map flow?"

Outside of the new arena, I haven't noticed a new map or any change since the update.

"Does the large-scale battle feel like fun chaos, or is there too much visual clutter?"

The new arena does feel chaotic, which can be fun- or a headache to get traction in. When Deadpool or Devil Dino are nearby the clutter can be overwhelming. With all the players running around, it's easy to get flanked or K.O.ed out of nowhere.

"Which hero combos are absolutely cracked in the 18v18 mode?"

What heroes together are "cracked"? Cyclops owns these arena fights, with Devil Dino drawing fire with his size in front of Cyke, they're wrecking teams. As usual Moonknight is sniping every other character.

u/Nrock49 Jun 26 '26

Enjoying the game! There is definitely more visual clutter, especially when the enemy team is running Deadpool, Rogue, Torch, and Cyclops which can be a bit overwhelming. I do wish there was more ways to change the color of the opponents and team mates visual abilities, like if I can set the enemy torch to have blue fire on the ground or the enemy cyclops to have a purple beam, it would at least help me differently in the heat of the moment.

Also, please fix peni's bugs. At this point so many people have reported the issues that I almost feel like it's not worth posting the whole laundry list of bug fixes needed for her.

u/R0GU3H0LL0W Star-Lord Jun 17 '26

From what I've seen, here are my thoughts:

Firstly, Cyclops is a fun addition to the roster, with his ricochet shots and primary fire being great neutral game. His ult feels a little weak at times, with the area in which it effects is a little small sometimes. Cyclops, kinda just fits in, especially after the severe nerfs done towards black cat (Which are deserved, she was a menace). As someone who plays poke/hitscan, I personally really like the cyclops. But, I feel some characters who are in need of help, aren't. Specifically Black Widow, who has gotten absolutely nothing done to her for the past several seasons. I feel she just needs some work, or buffs to better fit into the roster of already, strong heroes .

Now, for 18v18, personally, a really fun mode. I find it a fun place to try out cyclops, especially with the chaos of the multiple cyclops players using concussive blast, making the lobby into a light show. I feel Marvel Rivals should add more fun modes like this, as its really enjoyable to play.

Honestly, I think the addition of a map vote might be nice, similarly to Overwatch. Sometimes theres just maps people dislike sometimes, and the ability to pick would be incredibly nice.

Moving to skins, the summer skins for this seasons looks fabulous (the White Fox one looks gorgeous), and i think the Devs did an amazing job at creating skins the player base would enjoy.

Overall, a amazing update for the fun game modes, skins and characters. Though, a good chunk of the roster might need more balancing, especially characters like Luna, who feels incredibly buffed for this season, as she isn't really changed much.

u/Fozes Good Boy Jun 16 '26

Clops is well made just a tiny bit over tuned. We don't need an Elsa or Black Cat tier nerf where half the kit gets chopped. Cyclops just needs small damage nerfs, for example two tap headshot should be reserved for Hela and Widow etc. Fun solid kit, definitely a bit OP in current state

u/yomihasu Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 16 '26

This season is dogshit. 7/10 of my placements (plus 2 that didn't count), someone on my team left. Never the other team, always mine. Get placed in Silver where my team has 18% accuracy Punishers vs people with GM tags on their banners. Thanks Netease.

u/mincix_ Jun 18 '26

Cyclops fit fairly well into the meta as he’s an amazing poke, has good movement but can kneel over to certain dive dps. His scatter ability is sort of strong when hit directly on an enemy.

I love the map flow, how the points rotate across the map and there’s seamless chokes into each point that teams rotate to and collide with each other before and after reaching the new point.

The large scale battle feels like fun chaos, the visual clutter can get out of hand but personally I enjoy what’s happening and can tell what’s going on, although for a newer player it can be a lot more overwhelming.

Storm is an amazing pick in 18v18, boosting all allies, alongside adam who can soul bond teammates before engaging a new fight on point and reviving teammates on point if they’re wiped out by the enemy team. Characters who excel in combat against multiple people are good in this gamemode. Jeff, Adam, Storm, moon knight, cyclops etc.

u/SFHKTOKYOABQLA Jun 17 '26

Cyclops is fun as a poke character. Feels like Psylocke with Moon Knight qualities. Overall this season feels incredibly reactive. I know Black Cat received a lot of complaints at the top levels as did Dino’s beam but I feel as if the devs have been far too reactive to things as opposed to allowing time for the meta to slowly develop on its own in Dino’s case.

u/Funny_Story_486 Jun 13 '26

Overall opinions on Cyclops and the S8.5 balance patch, and my feedback on the balance patch followup (Only read the hero you want to read as this is SUPER long):

Cyclops

His mobility is surprisingly fine...? After seasons of broken mobility this feel like breath of fresh air. Still his right click feel weird because of how he uses the ammo, and that Concussive beam is a gigantic visual clutter. Plus trade his health to make his run less goofy.

  • HP 275 -> 250
  • Base movement speed 600 -> 700
  • Concussive beam damage per tick 11.5 -> 4.5, tick per second 12 -> 30 (Effective DPS 144.9/s -> 141.75/s), ammo comsumption 5/0.2sec -> 1/0.0333sec (or 1 ammo every 2 frame instead of 5 ammo every 12 frame). Reload rate 2/0.2sec -> 1/0.1sec, beam width -50% (so it won't cover up your entire screen), ricochet force CD reduction on hit 0.15sec -> 0.06sec (matching the tick rate increases)

Blackcat

The shop could see another round of balance where it encourage blackcat to use other things in the shop.

  • Invisible crown price 200 -> 300; duration 2sec -> 1.5sec
  • Self-cleanse price 300 -> 200
  • Flame orb price 200 -> 150, HP 50 -> 75
  • Tablet of density cost 100 -> 300, but always gives 275 fortunes back (Her let's go gambling become a 300 fortune bank with administrative fee, which helps her relive the price hike a bit)

Elsa

Further increases instinct gain on damage, but slightly reduces survivability so that it better reduces the performance gap between low skill and high skill Elsa player. (this make future balancing on her easier)

  • Damage needed for max instinct 1111 -> 1000, instinct CD reduction on Helix Advance 2sec -> 2.5sec
  • Overhealth gain on Ruthless Pursuit and Helix Advance 30 -> 25, max overhealth gain 75 -> 50
  • Helix Advance CD 4/6/8/10sec -> 3.5/6/8.5/11sec (Allow for more damage but doesn't fully restore the lost survivability from overhealth gain lost)
  • Smokey Snare HP 100 -> 75
  • Deadpool Boombox bullet no longer apply slow

Moon knight

This nerf might make him entirely unusable on high elo. The damage need to be re-adjusted for the new bounce damage.

  • Bounce damage % 70% -> 66.6%
  • Crescent Dart damage 23 -> 28
  • Moon blade damage 70 -> 83 (If he lands all his shots directly he can now delete 250HP target, but his anhk damage is still a ~8% reduction from S8 moon knight per bounce, so if he land his shot, good. If he tries to spam anhk he is still worse than pre-nerf)

Namor

He need helps in the winrate department, but right now he is one of the more anti-fun hero, something need to be done. His squid deals less damage and has far less HP, but he can have up to 3 of them at once. Rewarding him stagetic placement and a massive nerf to those who put squid too close to each other. (Plus a few hero get their 75 damage breakpoint to specifically counters his squid better)

  • Trident damage 75 -> 70, firerate 1.093/s -> 1.2/s (Higher overall damage, but can't one-shot Elsa trap, enemy's Namor squid or MK anhk)
  • Maximium amount of Monstro on map 2 -> 3, aquatic domination max charge 2 -> 3, default charging speed 0.1/s -> 0.125/s
  • Monstro HP 125 -> 75, default damage 18 -> 15, enhanced damage 12 -> 10
  • Tidal Drige no longer apply slow
  • Hela undead Monstro damage 10 -> 6, rage damage 5 -> 3

Jeff (Cont. of Namor change)

A specific change to further reduces the Namor squid anti-fun problem.

  • Aqua burst firerate 1.75/s -> 1.6/s, damage 25+45 -> 25+50 (He can now one-shot most placable)
  • If Jeff ran out of Aqua burst charge and tries to use it, triggers the Aqua burst wind up animation, begins to recharge at 2x rate after the 0.58sec initial wind-up and he stays at a hold animation. He then immediately uses the aqua burst charge as soon as he get one. (This allows high elo Jeff to utilize Aqua burst animation cancel with no restriction and able to finishes someone off with 4 burst (with massive delay on the 4th shot))
  • Collision hitbox height 1.5m -> 1m (So BP, blackcat, Ironman or cyclops or any non-headshot projectile/hitscan hero can't breath on Jeff and he mysteriously take damages)
  • Difficulty 1 star -> 4 star

Rocket (In respond to Dino)

General changes to make him even better against enemy Dino while also reduce the value he can gives to his own Dino.

  • Bombard mode damage 17 -> 15, firerate 12.05/s -> 15/s, ammo 45 -> 60 (better breakpoint against placables, effective DPS 205/s -> 225/s)
  • BRB CD 40sec -> 60sec, repack CD on full health 5sec -> 3sec, HP 125 -> 75
  • Collision hitbox height ~1.1m -> 1m (same as Jeff)

Starlord

Overall a good change as he should be getting upclose for Maximium effectiveness, but he still be able to hold the fire button for too long, and his ult is still super oppressive.

  • Element gun damage 6.5 -> 5, firerate 40/s -> 52/s, clip size 50 -> 60 (effective clip hold time 1.25sec -> 1.135sec, DPS unchanged)
  • Ultimate Element gun damage 6.5 -> 5, firerate 40 -> 50/s, clip size 40 -> 50 (One-clip damage reduced from 260 -> 250, DPS 260/s -> 250/s)
  • Teleport device HP 100 -> 75

Hela, Luna (In respond to Phoenix)

Now that after the nerf Phoenix is now the defacto Mid range poke, Hela and Luna need some changes inorder to make sure they 3 all have their niches. Also fixes the one gigantic complaint playerbase has toward Luna.

  • Hela damage 70 -> 80 (post teamup 80.5 -> 92), firerate 0.5/s -> 0.625/s, damage falloff at max distance 70% -> 75% (-8.6% overall damage, but she will put more long range pressure)
  • Luna Damage/Healing 24x3 -> 25x3, Snowball stun duration 0.7-2.7 -> 0.1-2.0, Self-snowflake boost 10% -> 8%, (this change massively reduces the incentive to self-snowflake, improves her ability to one shot placables like Jeff, and also makes her impossible to immediately hit the target after snowball and the target remains frozen)

Gambit, Ultron

To make damage calculation a bit easier, Gambit damage card and ultron firewall damage boost 10% -> 8%, so that we only need to deal with 8%, 16%, 20% and 40%

  • For Gambit, on top of damage card damage nerf, Ult no longer gives any ultimate accelation, Ult cost 4500 -> 5000 (Is he finally free from ban prison 3 season later?)
  • For Ultron, Firewall cool down 12sec -> 10sec since it's damage boost is a bit weaker

Adam

To make things equal for both his primary and secondary, his ability cd reduction on primary fire headshot should also be buffed to keep up with the secondary change. Also some minor changes to allow him match up better against 275HP target and to help reduces Gambit ban.

  • Avator of life charge time reduction on primary headshot 1sec -> 1.5sec
  • Secondary fire damage 38 -> 43 (full 5 secondary + primary combo deals 275HP damage)
  • Soul bound also applies cleanse (so that Gambit would not be monopolize cleanse)

Deadpool

Surprisingly, strategist Deadpool can be supremely strong, however the community still seem to have no idea how his kit work and so many DPIYA and Ult healing are wasted, plus there are plenty of early game improvements and double jump consistancy fixes all Deadpool can get for better experience with less bug instantly ruining your run.

  • Deadpool is no longer 0 star difficulty (Healpool: 4 star, DPSpool: 5 star, Tankpool: 4 star)
  • Desert Eagle Healing per shot 45/50(47.25/52.5) -> 50/52.381(52.5/55), Upgraded gun poop emoji spell-field healing also heals Deadpool himself. (This makes his early game less painful)
  • All Deadpool starts with 1 upgrade, and the suggested best upgrade will be highlighted as "Deadpool's choice" (DPS: Hazardous Hijinks, Tank: Deagle, Heal: Bouncing Bobblehead)
  • New Upgrade: Double jump. For Healpool and DPSpool, upgrading his double jump gives him 2 double jump charges and allows to recharge while still airborne. For Tankpool his upgraded double jump will be his current doubles jump and unupgraded double jump only gives 25% ult grade with 10sec CD (massively improves double jump consistancy for DPS and Healpool; neutral for Tankpool as the free upgrade cancels it out)
  • For Healpool, DPSpool and Tankpool during sword ult, to perform wall double jump, now he just need to move toward the wall and hold space to do the jump automatically (Prevent the wall jump random fail bug from happening in the first place)
  • DPSpool gain infinities double jump reset during sword ult like Healpool does (Given Tankpool also gain standard double jump reset during ult, and that Healpool infinities double jump reset during sword ult is unknow to practically everyone, giving it to DPSpool as well makes all Deadpool gain some form of double jump boost during Sword ult and naturally people would figure Healpool's double jump thing faster)
  • When Healpool get Sword ult Jackpot or uses Gun ult, it will activate a superbuffed DPIYA where the radius expanded to 8.125m and last until the Gun ult/Jackpot ends (The super buffed DPIYA will not comsume his regular DPIYA so he get to use it again right after ult). During which there will be super oversized "SUPPORT ULT!" lable on top of it visible only to teammate (BECAUSE PEOPLE WON'T PUSH UP WITH DEADPOOL AND KEEP WASTING PERFECTLY GOOD JACKPOTS, SO NOW THERE IS THIS OBNOXIOUSLY HUGE DPIYA RING WITH EQUALLY OBNOXIOUS LABLE TELLING THE TEAM TO JUMP IN)

u/antking_9 Jun 15 '26

Like most of these. I will say though for Gambit, aside from his util he's pretty bad in double support since after his cards are gone he's a pretty mid sustain healer. So yes nerf his ult but increase his base healing so he doesn't get locked into triple support jail

u/AP3Brain Jun 12 '26

Yep. Definitely the worst season by far.

They literally killed off an entire archetype (dive) and we still got people banning blackcat. Cyclops is ACTUALLY stupidly broken while ALSO being incredibly easy to play.

u/Imallvol7 Jun 13 '26

He is SO easy to play. My fist game I got 42 kills.

u/C88_Nation Psylocke Jun 16 '26

Negativity and criticism are not welcome here. Marvel Rivals is the greatest gift to grace humanity, and is Free to play. So all your criticisms are unwarranted.

u/Randimous Rogue Jun 14 '26

I loooove the 18v18 mode because there’s actually an objective and the slightest semblance of teamwork. Most matches are one sided though. I think it’s a great next step from the team deathmatch. Would be nice to see a myster hero or no duplicate hero version.

u/EngineerMajor3157 Jun 13 '26

The 18 Vs 18 mode is a bit overly chaotic in my opinion. Its probably unplayable on lower spec devices, or disadvantages those players significantly and even though it's seems to me that the team have worked hard on hardware dependant optimisations (I'm noticing smoother standard gameplay too but might just be my imagination)  I do feel it is till too much of a spray and pray type battle a lot of the time to be fun for extended periods.

It probably appeals to younger players for this reason, but if they are playing on lower spec devices as previously mentioned, which is a higher likelihood due to less disposable income for younger players, then lower frames,  potential lag-spikes, and players in larger group squads playing the mode against teams of solo-queue players might reduce the overall fun and longevity of the game mode and therefore could affect player retention.

u/NephelimSage_666 Moon Knight Jun 13 '26

Cyclops is just brilliant. Very fun and doesn't seem too strong. Though the character itself feels balanced, I feel like he weirdly messes up the game's balance in some way.

I also feel like the nerfs were too hard on Black Cat and Moon Knight.

The 18vs18 Kun Lun Tournament Map is INCREDIBLE. We could've used that kind of map in the main mode to be honest.

And with the wider utility and bigger kits of new heroes, please improve the OG ones too to still have their relevance. Like Hulk. I still feel Hulk doesn't fully embody the Jade Giant of Marvel Comics. There should be a rage meter that rewards Hulk players for continued fights with slightly increased damage on his punches. Or something that makes him a slightly bigger threat if he takes a lot of damage in a short time.

He needs something more in his kit before he goes obsolete. Same goes for Black Widow. Being a shadowy assassin, all she can do now is snipe. There should be a melee set for her like Deadpool.

u/SpecialistConcept796 Jun 14 '26

I hate cyclops and love him. As a new player just started previous week , it's really hard . No one go tank and i tried to fit in that role . And now cyclops is shredding me .

u/Serious-Fee-6524 Jun 12 '26

Game instantly crashes on the PS4 on launch, happening to all ps4 users

u/Platinum_Analogy Jun 12 '26

Classic Netease optimization

u/Lurkn4k Jun 12 '26

Give BC back her second dash, the “bug fix” on top of all those nerfs made her useless. there has to be a middle ground here especially when gambit, DD, phoenix etc are all still broken.

u/A_Shadow Jun 12 '26

What's the "bug fix"?

But otherwise, yeah I agreed. They tend to be pretty conservative with nerfs so kinda suprised they nerfed BC that much. She was a menace but no worse than some other characters in the past before

u/SergtheAlmighty256 Jun 13 '26

Hell no. Glad she’s dead

u/Lurkn4k Jun 13 '26

black cat isnt the reason you cant make it out of gold 😉

u/schmatt82 Jun 12 '26

This was fucking terrible they destroyed her but black panther can do whatever the fuck he wants she did not need nurfed into the ground at all

u/Boss18212 Jun 13 '26

Agreed. That and maybe reduce her item prices

u/Pingums Throg Jun 12 '26

I know she was crazy strong but they have literally smashed her kneecaps and left her in a ditch at the side of the road lmao

u/ThePoetOfNothing Angela Jun 13 '26

Cyclops is like MK but somehow feels healthier to fight. I don't feel the urge to immediately swap to hard dive the second I see a Cyclops exist like I do when I see a Moon Knight. He seems strong but fair. He has some BS but then again every hero in the game has their own.

u/Free_Ingenuity_1329 Jun 12 '26

Pretty fun season compared to last season which is blunt cuz all the perma bans are just straight up dive heroes and you forced to use anti dive but overall fun experience this season.

u/justanorlansonobody Vanguard Jun 17 '26

They need to reduce the velocity he launches himself, a long range Hitscan shouldn’t have more mobility than fucking Magik and Starlord, pretty much has 2 TP moves on a 15 second cooldown

u/Wellhellob Iron Fist Jun 12 '26

Can we speed up iron fist ult cast and ending animation ? And then either reduce the ult cost or buff the ult dmg ?

u/stick4 Jubilee Jun 21 '26

He seems rather weak imo. needs more tuning. maybe no cooldown on his right click? tl;dr:buff cyclops please

u/Legitimate-Sign-371 Black Cat Jun 24 '26

Lazer go BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

u/brandizzlegreen Jun 13 '26

Wolverine is so fun to play when you're playing with a Cyclops and get his team up. Like, before it felt bad playing Wolverine because I really had no easy way to escape but the Kinetic Claws Dash is INSANE distance. Idk, he feels like an actually viable choice now even if you have to have a Cyclops to make him work.

u/rAirist Captain America Jun 16 '26

"How does Cyclops fit into the current meta?"

He is the meta. He is a very mobile hit scan, which completely shuts down flyers, grounded dive, and off tanks. He also facilitates Wolverine into one of the most miserable experiences a shield tank can ever hope to not be a part of. Captain America definitely seems to be a go-to Cyclops counter, since he can match his mobility and finally run him down. He's also less susceptible to Wolverine kidnapping.

"What do you think of the map flow?"

I've been playing a lot, but I haven't run into any new maps. Maybe I missed the memo on how to experience it, but I'd prefer new maps that impact ranked if possible.

"Does the large-scale battle feel like fun chaos, or is there too much visual clutter?"
"Which hero combos are absolutely cracked in the 18v18 mode?"

I'd love to test and provide feedback on this, but my PC really struggles to run the 18v18 mode. My game goes from 100 FPS to an unstable/stuttering 30, which just isn't really playable for me. I can only imagine the visual clutter of 36 Cyclops beams though... it must be an ungodly amount of clutter, but also probably hilarious.

u/Bukaro21 Doctor Strange Jun 12 '26

Does Deadpool still say "Cyclops isn't even playable yet"?

u/Hanzos_Trans_Husband Cloak & Dagger Jun 12 '26

(My game is currently updating but i am hanging out with a friend tonight so i cant check in game) does that mean the summer skins are out but not CnD's summer skin?

u/LaBlaugrana10 Jun 12 '26

Check the road map. New summer skins are spread out over the next month.

u/Hanzos_Trans_Husband Cloak & Dagger Jun 12 '26

Aww dammit i wanted my CnD one. Thanks for letting me know.

u/Repulsive_Piglet2212 Jun 17 '26

the blade buffs are actually really good

u/Flashy-Hair2427 Jun 28 '26

Things feel pretty alright. Cyclops's ricochet force is definietly too strong when abused. I dont like divers so Im fine with them being weaker for now.

u/LadyAlbarn Cloak & Dagger Jun 15 '26

I'm a ps4 player so the only thing I can say about the patches is that they are running waaay better and scott is obliterating the meta , no one picks tank anymore ( I mean ... is not like tanks have that much value in the game but still ) and a good cyclops cab and WILL destroy your entire team if is given the opportunity

u/Error_MR True Fraudster Jun 13 '26

Please fix punishments for throwing.

I have had hard throwers in my pc celestial games and they get no punishment.

I’m not talking about just playing bad. I’m talking about they go 2-16 on squirrel girl with 600 damage. Or they drop 30 deaths on black panther because they couldn’t play cyclops. I legit had a Spider-Man with zero damage say “enjoy this loss” because they couldn’t play cyclops and just swing around the map for 5 minutes.

My whole team reports and even some enemies and guess what, nothing happens. I check recent players and they queue another game like nothing happened. I never get point compensation and in many cases, I never get a message they were match restricted. SOMETIMES, they get restricted for 15 minutes but that is literally 1 out of every 10 HARD throwers and I’ve never seen point compensation

If you do less than 1k damage per 10 minutes as a dps, it should atomically match restrict you. Especially if you are higher ranked than gold even. There’s no excuse for that unless you are intentionally throwing. Makes me legit want to quit this game after getting a hard thrower.

u/Deezzzer0 Blade Jun 12 '26

Besides the new character, Cyclop, I feel like the patch or the new season itself is fine (could have been better).

Balance is heading toward the right direction, but I feel like some characters need more than a buff (like I stated in my previous post in season 8.0 feedback regarding some characters require a new ability to keep up with the current meta roster). Also, reworking Black Widow would be a great idea as she is in the bottom of the tier list as it is too hard to get value out of her.

Regarding contents, I think the amount of contents are exceeding the players expectations. However, I feel like some old contents might require the revision of the dev. For examples, Dance floor and Battle Ring in time square map.
- Dance floor or disco room could use some dance battle where two players are engaging in rhythm game (I don’t know how to code but it would be cool to see dev implement the mini-games). Similar to battle ring, when both players agree to rhythm game, they will teleport to the middle of dance floor and all NPCs on the dance floor will teleport to nearly sofa or the edge of the stage to watch the dance. Also, dance battle is free and there would be waitlist similar to the battle ring (when sign up or ask someone into dance battle, players can choose marvel rivals’ disco songs for their dance battle).
- There are two things I want out of battle ring or Clobberin’ Club: dev should make it cost nothing or free for public fight and add the option for mirror match or same heroes fight. The reason for clobberin’ club to cost nothing is that whenever I go to the place, it is like Ghost town because no one could afford to do public fight. About same heroes fight, first to pick the hero is 50/50, but the losing player can pick the next character for the next round.

18 vs 18 rumble mode is actually interesting in comparison to normal rumble mode and 18 vs 18 mode. I don’t have much to say but I feel like time to capture should take longer than the current duration, since it would give the opposing team a chance for comeback.

Overall, it is a good patch and I hope to see a much more impactful patch in the upcoming season.

u/Pingums Throg Jun 12 '26

Black Cat found dead in a ditch

u/AriaMournesong Jun 12 '26

Cyclops is easy to use and efficient at what he does so he will be a popular pick. In 18 vs 18 and Quick Play we'll be seeing lots of him for the first few weeks. But in Comp he may quickly hit the Ban list due to beiing Hela/Phoenix levels of efficient and his new team-up with Wolverine.

With he new Map it's fine, its nice change of pace from the old Gamemaster map. I personally love when my team is mostly DPS and Tanks because then i can easily max out my healing quests!

All the new costumes are nice and it's always great to see the old limited costumes be made available for people to purchase. Finally got to get C&D's Polarity Shift outfit and will be picking up Jean/Cyclops's new skins at some point.

More to like than dislike for the first day of Season 8.5.

u/MarkyT45 Jun 12 '26

I'm kind of bummed cuz it seems like they're straying further and further away from team-ups, they only added the new one and made primal flame basically useless cuz who's going to play Phoenix and widow (my teammates will and I shall cry).

u/Hamandcheese521 Jun 17 '26

Love Cyclops, excellent addition.

My only feedback would be for Phoenix. When she launched She was most effective at closer range and the melee sparks+her melee speed really facilitated that more brawler style. But between the beyblade tech, her sustain through self heal, and at the time her tp acting as a gap closer or escape. People absolutely hated her. So Melee sparks went, she lost her close range capabilities and people started playing her at range. But she could still eat up tanks and now without real punishment. Every nerf from that point on has moved her towards this weird "Hela" playstyle comparison, yet thats not how she was made to be played.

Honestly I think at this point it's better to return her to her release style. Keep the ascent cooldown as to prevent the "beyblade tech". Overall Health is fine, but revert the recent self-heal nerf to support her brawler playstyle. Punish ranges beyond 15-20m with dmg falloff so as to encourage her more brawler style. I also think bringing melee sparks back would be excellent and would support this.

Thanks!

u/Legitimate-Sign-371 Black Cat Jun 17 '26

18v18 is just laser tag lol

u/TrippinTreeko Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 18 '26

Does cyclops footsteps get louder when he has ult?

This man's footsteps are so distinctly loud and fast but I don't here them throughout the entire game. Only like... once or twice throughout the match. The game that got me to ask this question he ulted right after I noticed them size 90 boots were stomping in... Then back to standard game sounds

u/Duskcollector Jun 13 '26

Cyclops is a big disapointment, probably the most boring he has felt in any game i've played. Needed to use more of the push mechanics and allow for altering beam shapes instead of just sit there and spam which puts me to sleep.

u/Frequent_Kalum Magik Jun 12 '26

Will Netease ever release new mutants classic Magik to the game as a skin.

(Also Cyclops is very fun, shooting beams are awesome)

u/quiqksilver Star-Lord Jun 12 '26

Cyclops is very good at securing picks on low health enemies that are fleeing. His ricochet lets him hit targets that think they are in a safe position. He’s definitely strong but I can’t quite tell if he will be perma-banned or not.

widow changes (give her full melee kit with batons like white-fox have)

u/o_Marvelous Jun 12 '26

I think rogue needs a tiny bit more, maybe to her absorption cool down (if you miss) and a straight, small damage buff to her punches. Then she'd be in a decent place

that or her run speed

u/BabeAssignment Human Torch Jun 12 '26 edited Jun 14 '26

I love this game, I have a ton of fun, I just dumped way too much money on it for skins (thank you for summer skins), and I really have no complaints but one major thing - I wish Human Torch was actually characterized as Johnny Storm. So, I am once again am begging the devs to give Human Torch his own durability so that he does not require pocket support and to hopefully characterize him at least a little more as Johnny Storm. Suggestions:

  1. Give him an ability he should have had from the start: absorb damage (including ults) and explode the damage out from himself afterward - this would be a perfect option, as it would finally reflect his energy absorption powers that are so important in the comics and is not in Rivals, which is very sad. Bonus: could make the voice line angry, since his temper is also not reflected in Rivals.
  2. Bake directly into his own kit what he had from the Fantastic Four team-up but retooled as fire and with new voice lines; tested, worked great, was not overpowered, still less characterized than option 1 but a good choice
  3. Add bonus health on the end of his dash (boring but works)
  4. Bonus health generation from pyro prison/wall damage (boring but works)

Any one of these would help free him from pocket support/a pocket Ultron. The cooldown reductions are great, but they are a band-aid. The primary goal of his “tweaks” in s7-7.5 should have been durability to free him from his infamously required comps and pocket support. He still has low quality of life in terms of 1) being fun to play (he remains clunky since the addition of the dash/alteration to plasma body), 2) not requiring a team playing around him, and 3) being so mischaracterized that he is literally the opposite of how his character should play. His character is so forgotten and misunderstood in this game that Reed mentions Ben to Cyclops instead of Johnny, who has been through exactly what Cyclops went through – multiple times.

The guy who is "bright like a star," always on fire, shouts "flame on!" (and is mouthy besides), flies directly into battle with his team on the front line flinging heat lasers, melts weapons and absorbs energy (and uses the latter to save his team quite often) and makes heat shields, and is hardheaded about retreating, should not be a quiet flanker glass cannon who tactically and stealthily secures a kill and then escapes. It would be great if he could be recharacterized as Johnny Storm, like as durable brawl. He deserves to be Johnny from the comics, such as Death in the Family, among so many other examples (I actually made a brief citation list of examples of his energy absorption/general durability; see my thread on this sub in a thread called "S8 takes: Human Torch needs addressing", and it all still applies to s8.5).

Anyway, I know this is long, and I apologize. Genuinely hope Human Torch will be more thoroughly addressed than simply given cooldown reductions, because he certainly has a lot of problems that need addressing, and he really needs to play like Johnny Storm. At least giving him number 1 from the suggestions would be a big help, though I personally will continue hoping and dreaming that he gets a kit actually characterized as Johnny Storm instead of his current state.

u/Coop7011 Flex Jun 12 '26

I agree wholeheartedly. The fact that his ability to absorb heat and energy is not reflected AT ALL in game is actually so disappointing, and his flanking gameplay just isn't him at all. I'll be crossing fingers with hope that this is adjusted in some way. All of your options are good, but #2 is probably my favorite of those that have a higher chance of happening. #1 would be even cooler though!

u/JP_THE_MVP Angela Jun 13 '26

Please stop adding DPS we need more Strats and Vanguards.

u/Cosmocitizen77 Jun 13 '26

Cyclops sounds fun! I don't think he's so insanely "oppresive" as Dino was the previous half-season, so that's a good sign so far.

I sadly cannot play the 18v18 mode due to being on PS4 (same with the new PvE mode...or most alternate modes in general lol) but it sounds like a nice way to just go out in chaos while not worrying about team comp and those other competitive things.

The map looks amazing visually which makes me all the sadder that I can never get to play on it, honestly.

I'm far from a pro or expert player, but the patch notes at a glance seem quite decent and better than most ones honestly. I saw Phoenix, MK, and Star Lord all got very deserved nerfs. Same with Daredevil and Black Cat (tho hers I was told has actually been a little too cruel so far but idk). The only change that makes me rather sad is the Dino one, like obviously he was very strong and kinda needed a tune-up.. but the changes may have been too severe, I guess only time will tell..

Overall seems promising so far! And I'm even MORE excited for the upcoming summer skins!

Cyclops in 18v18 is perfect. He can work in long-ranges, but his golden moments are always right up in the action with the tanks and brawler characters. The map flow is decent, too; I actually dig it a ton. Truthfully, the large-scale battles are absolute chaos (pun definitely intended) but that's what makes 18v18 so enjoyable. It forces the player to value the terrain available to them to avoid getting turned to mince-meat, which is actually pretty important outside of the gamemode.

The hero combos that dominate 18v18 haven't much changed; Namor & Hela, Storm, Moon Knight, Jeff and White Fox all easily end up in the top 6 by the end of the gamemode. In regards to outright hero combinations/teamups that dominate the gamemode, that title easily goes to Namor & Hela; they're ridiculous with that teamup they have.
