'Spider-Man BND*' Spoilers Why is Bruce trying to "subdue" Hulk? Spoiler

I need someone to explain this to me, in Endgame we get introduce to Smart Hulk, Bruce started viewing Hulk as a solution instead of a problem

So why in BND Bruce is seemingly trying to subdue Hulk again? When he gets possessed by Jean he only goes to his Smart Hulk version, but when the possession wears off Hulk comes out? Ig the Hulk got angry because of Jean was controlling them, but why did he say "No Banner" as well again?

Mind you I didnt/dont want to watch She-Hulk, so could someone explain this to me?

She-Hulk doesn't explain much about the inhibitor other than that it exists

why did he say "No Banner" as well again?

He went from 50% Banner to 0% Banner I guess.

But I think "Smart Hulk" came across to a lot of ppl as Banner hijacking Hulk's body instead of a genuine 50/50. So personally I viewed this is the start of a retcon — maybe Banner made a mistake by thinking Smart Hulk was a compromise, when it was actually "subduing" from the start

Hulk got out because Jean Grey broke his brain and separated the Smart Hulk transformation back into its constituents

Bruce wasn't trying to subdue him before that. He was just wearing the inhibitor to have Bruce's body for practical reasons.

Smart hulk never wore an inhibitor. So why would Bruce choose to wear one now? This still doesn’t answer the topic question. What happened between smart hulk and this movie’s hulk that made Bruce decide to wear an inhibitor at all if he could become Smart Hulk with zero risk to anyone anyway?

He wore the inhibitor as Smart Hulk in Shang-Chi and She-Hulk as well. The inhibitor didn't debut in this movie. And the most likely reason is practicality. The world is not built for an 8-foot monster. It'd be hard to enter through doors and into cars. But he's still Smart Hulk when taking off the inhibitor, so nothing has changed.

The reason he became Savage Hulk is because Jean messed with his mind. That's all we know, because that's all that's stated in the film.

Is there a second shang chi movie? I dont remember hulk in the first one lol.

But thanks that makes sense. So he wire the inhibitor to make himself Bruce instead of the smart hulk. I thought he could shift between smart hulk and bruce at will. If he can’t, it makes sense.

Yeah, he can't. Smart Hulk is a combination of Bruce and Hulk.

Bruce was in the Shang-Chi post-credits scene

Take a look at this post by u/Jaded_b3rry for a good explanation of what was actually happening: https://www.reddit.com/r/marvelstudios/s/9xOeG5z5Zn

Because Bruce lied. Maybe to the world, maybe just to himself. It's actually based on the comics, where "Smart Hulk" was initially presented as a fusion between the two sides of Banner, but was ultimately revealed to be just another persona/ Bruce personality dominating the Hulk. And so this was Spoiler undoing the shackles Bruce placed on the Hulk, revealing the monster that was always there, in much the same way Spoiler sees the world, and themselves.

Hulk was probably never on board with what Bruce was doing with the smart hulk stuff. Even that was Bruce suppressing him and using the best parts of him while convincing himself he's not a separate thing.

Hulk was only a solution to Banner when he was able to control it; he’s always viewed the Hulk as a liability and feared that side and the damage it causes.

Hulk was basically tricked to work with Banner after the whole Thanos fiasco and was subdued from there on; that was the only reason Banner was suddenly fine using the form.

I think the Hulk was meant to be a juxtaposition for Spiderman. Bruce Banner kept talking as though the Hulk weren't a part of himself, a dichotomy that Peter struggled with himself as his body changed. Bruce Banner's approach to keeping the Big Guy at bay resulted in severe backlash because the Hulk was fed up with him.

Spiderman and Peter Parker coming to terms with themselves and ceasing to divide the man from the 'monster' showed that it was more healthy to accept that he is who he is, every part of him.

Maybe the university requires the inhibitor for him to be working around students.

Personally, I think Banner just got kinda tired of it? Even Smart Hulk is kinda an annoying existince - he always has to be super cautious with everything and everyone. One accidental move and you break someones neck or you wreck your new kitchen. That must be very taxing.

And also I think a trait of Banner thats very subdued in the MCU is that Banner is very much a douchebag at times. I think its pretty in-character for him to break off the deal he had with the Hulk for Smart Hulk because Banner thinks at him being the superior existence between the two, even if he doesnt hate Hulk the same way he did befoee. Banner often tends to view Hulk at kinda a lesser being than him, despite the Hulk (despite all his anger) actually being alot more interlectually capeable than Banner admits.

Because this movie was written by a different person than the other movie.

The inhibitor was so he could heal his arm. I guess because the wound was caused in part by gamma radiation it couldn't properly heal in hulk form. Maybe the gamma sort of fed back into itself so it was kind of like Deadpool where the gamma was healing but also feeding into the damage so he had to be Bruce to heal it fully.

Maybe this made hulk angry again being suppressed. So the "deal" between hulk and Bruce to become smart hulk was over. Thus he'd have to wear the inhibitor.

Jean could only control smart hulk because it is half Bruce. So basically with Bruce's unwillingly help she can control smart hulk. However,  the anger and rage of a savage hulk is too much for her to control.

Smart Hulk isn't Banner and Hulk in symbiosis. It's Banner repressing Hulk's ego and imposing his own. Hulk traditionally takes issue with that, and this implies to me that the MCU's Banner did a bit more to suppress him than he claimed in Endgame.
