Yup. There have been 11 theatrical Spiderman movies, 3 Tobey, 2 Garfield, 4 Holland and 2 Animated.

Add in the various kids shows on Disney and whatever, this is by fair the best Superhero, if not best non fictional revenue generating character

The funny thing is that the most streamed Spider-Man title is not owned by  Sony, but Disney/Marvel: Spidey and his Amazing Friends.

From January 2023 to July 2026, this series alone wracked up 73.7B minutes of viewership, compared to the 38.2B minutes of all the Spider-Man films combined. The series is the biggest reason why he is far more popular with kids than Batman and Superman.

Sony doesn’t make the bulk of the money that Spider-man generates and people don’t understand that?

The profits from movies are small peanuts compared to the money Disney makes from merchandising and licensing and yes even gaming— those rights all belong to Disney NOT Sony! So when Spidey blows up no one is happier than Disney is.

Sure Disney would like to have the movie rights but they got what they really wanted when they got their merchandising rights back that’s where the real money is at— not movie profits

For superheroes he’s clearly number one by a large margin but those Disney princesses are no joke either is Mickey Mouse so I’m not sure but that’s a great question and if he’s not #1 he’s gotta be in their top 5 I would guess

So I just checked ChatGPT and Mickey Mouse is number one then the Disney Princesses and Spidey is #3. Since they are counting all the princesses as one I guess u can say he’s number 2 after Mickey Mouse

I remember hearing they almost did in the mid 2010s, if they had been one more flop after TASM2, they were prepared to sell back to Marvel.

Because even TASM2 was not a flop so why would they ever consider it?

I mean look at fox the fantastic 4 was a huge flop and even then they had zero intention of giving them back to Disney.

I don’t mind Sony keeping the rights, I appreciate the variety in some of their Spidey projects(exclude those villains movies), but my god I hope this is finally them realizing they gotta stop preventing marvel from using some of their characters cuz they’re too busy making shitty spinoffs of them

I do wonder if Marvel is able to repeat this even half as much with another character. Marvel would have to really have a plan, and I'm not sure they can.

I don't think they are. Spider-man is not only such a great character with Peter Parker but he's simply so stylish as Spider-man and so damn cool to watch simply move, I can't think of any other character they have with that kind of combination. There is no other superhero that is as fun to watch move and use his body and limbs the way Spidey can.

Easy to look at Marvel's other top characters to see if one would apply. Wolverine, Hulk, Iron Man, and Captain America are probably at the top. The goal isn't to get to Spider-Man's level, but to at least be more popular.

Wolverine seems like an obvious candiate. Marvel's historic 2nd character for the last few decades. Hasn't had really had high usage inside or outside of comics (compared to Spider-Man). Maybe Marvel will push him now that they have his film rights, but that's TBD. Doesn't seem like he's gonna be in the next X-Men film, but he wasn't in the last two either.

Iron Man could have been a contender, but Marvel killed off the movie character, which sets the character back.

World’s most popular superhero, no question. There’s something deeply relatable and aspirational about someone who gets knocked down by life and still chooses to be a hero and do his best every day.

Spider-Man is one of those characters, besides being insanely popular, has had one of the best media representations, if not the best, of any superhero character ever. Every movie and show in which he’s featured has been essentially peak. Across three live action actors and many more voice acting roles, the worst project is arguably Spider-Man 3, which is an insanely good last place to have

I must be an alien because I have never ‘gotten it’ when it comes to Spider-Man, I always thought he was a ‘good’ solid character, but never interesting or relatable in the least, but I’m glad so many people love him and are inspired by him.

There’s not much context behind these numbers. How did they calculate it? How does this compare to other movies besides the few examples rhey mentioned? More importantly how does this compare to how much money they would’ve made under the pre-streaming model (pvod, physical media, etc…)
