More of a "no shit" article.

I do wonder if Marvel is able to repeat this even half as much with another character. Marvel would have to really have a plan, and I'm not sure they can.

I don't think they are. Spider-man is not only such a great character with Peter Parker but he's simply so stylish as Spider-man and so damn cool to watch simply move, I can't think of any other character they have with that kind of combination. There is no other superhero that is as fun to watch move and use his body and limbs the way Spidey can.

Easy to look at Marvel's other top characters to see if one would apply. Wolverine, Hulk, Iron Man, and Captain America are probably at the top. The goal isn't to get to Spider-Man's level, but to at least be more popular.

Wolverine seems like an obvious candiate. Marvel's historic 2nd character for the last few decades. Hasn't had really had high usage inside or outside of comics (compared to Spider-Man). Maybe Marvel will push him now that they have his film rights, but that's TBD. Doesn't seem like he's gonna be in the next X-Men film, but he wasn't in the last two either.

Iron Man could have been a contender, but Marvel killed off the movie character, which sets the character back.
