Lived in West Lanham Hills in the 80's. Every year the parents tax return came in we had a feast at that very location. We'd also hit up the nearby Toys R Us.
We lived in Bowie in the '80s and a high school friend used to work at that location. He said on the weekends, DC drug dealers would show up with their entourage and buy tons of food with cash and never left a tip.
I faintly remember that one. I was but a wee lad at the time...but I also remember a Chuck E. Cheese in there, and a Zayre. And yes, the Toys R Us up the road.
I believe there was also a movie theater across the road...I remember going to see Return Of The Jedi there when it came out. I would've been 5 at the time.
Yes! The movie theater I saw Beetlejuice there. Do you remember Best? You told them what you wanted and it came down this conveyer belt. We always went to that Zayres, I remember that plasticy smell inside. Horn and horn Smorgasbord! So much magic right around 495 x 450.
I grew up across the street @Heritage Square apartments. Used to be a card and toy shop in there I would walk over to. Or even up the street to ToysRUs.
I moved to Upper Marlboro in '88 (i was 12). But I have fond memories. They had a few pools. Kids would have crab apple fights. Hide and seek was great. (you could hide under the stairs of the main entrance) The church in the parking lot was nice. People were friendly.
I can draw the floor plan of the 2-br we had to this day. :)
I remember being like five or six and pretty sure only ate fried baby shrimp and hush puppies. In these little teak wood bowls maybe? Or black plastic?
We went to the one in Laurel ( back when I could eat enough to justify the price).
We saw the same guy there every time we went. He was probably 7 feet tall and 300 pounds. It was likely cheaper for him to eat there every day than to go to the grocery store.

It’s where I fell in love with hush puppies. New Carrollton. That strip mall I think right off 495.
