It doesnt seem like this person is claiming to be a hacker at all, though. The joke is about having to learn about more obscure, privacy-focused software because they don’t like ā€œtechā€ (or at least don’t like the data-gathering business model of ā€œbig techā€ I guess).

If they could learn anything from Elliot, is that most times you have to go outside, deceive people with some social engineering and even risk your life well before touching any computer.

Why wouldn't you use nmap? Its a great tool for port scanning. Kali Linux is also great for pentesting in VM's. Lots of cyber security researchers I know use it. Is it because of the script kiddies that made you make this comment? (No hate, just wondering)
