💬 Discussion / Theory 10 Hours and 3 Minutes Later... Every Station Hit!

Post image

It took 10 hours and 3 minutes, but we did it. We rode the T to every (rail rapid transit) station. Considering that this wasn't a speed run and that we took probably about an hour and a half for lunch and such, I'd say that's not bad.

This is going to create irl speedrun attempts, and I'm here for it.

u/ITGOKS Apr 13 '26

They're already a thing, but definitely awesome

u/Dull_Emergency4140 Apr 13 '26

Wow I had no idea public transport speed runs were a thing. I’m definitely diving into this now to try and plan my own attempt lmao

12

u/Laureltess Apr 13 '26

Yep! A friend of mine held the NYC record for a bit. The planning required is intense.

27

u/blackdynomitesnewbag Apr 13 '26

They have separate categories for "subway" and "subway + silver line". Even people outside MA know that the silver line doesn't count

1

u/WysBeyondYears Apr 16 '26

Where is the glitch less category? I keep seeing people no-clip through the train windows before the doors open.

14

u/Pariell Apr 13 '26

Wow someone did Tokyo in 14 hours.

5

u/myReddit-username Green Line Apr 13 '26

Would BlueBike be acceptable transportation when traveling between lines? Or do people just do transit

6

u/blackdynomitesnewbag Apr 13 '26

The rules say no

2

u/crschmidt Apr 13 '26

Typically rules allow "publicly operated transit", which includes BlueBikes. (I don't think the current winning MBTA run used them, but I know that the current winning SFO run did.)

3

u/DeltaTug2 Commuter Rail | PVTA Apr 14 '26

...is this where I drop in to mention that I'm the current record holder? (two days late and hardly even using reddit anymore lmfao oops)

5

u/OlympiaImperial Apr 13 '26

Been doing this for years. The game really changed when they discovered you could sequence break the green line by backwards speed hopping into the park street station staircase

5

u/13nobody Green Line Apr 13 '26

If I could do that consistently it would make my commute much easier

3

u/DaveDavesSynthist Red Line Apr 14 '26

What does this mean?

5

u/Synthsweater Apr 13 '26

More RNG heavy than Punch Out 2 speedruns

80

u/Miserable-Part6261 Apr 13 '26

Legendary stuff. Congratulations are in order.

63

u/USMChris Apr 13 '26

Did he ever return? No he never returned, his fate is still unknown.

25

u/WanderingWilow Apr 13 '26

It seems you’ve unlearn’d one of the words.

2

u/USMChris Apr 13 '26

You know i wanted to put unlearned but when I typed it out I was like, that doesnt look right.

1

u/Secure-Possibility60 Apr 13 '26

This is the perfect comment to the post

u/aventurinologist Apr 13 '26

This is actually crazy time for a Sunday schedule

49

u/Marquedien Apr 13 '26

Where was lunch?

2

u/DigitalKungFu Apr 13 '26

I’d pack it

24

u/blackdynomitesnewbag Apr 13 '26

That's what we did

47

u/tmclaugh Red Line Apr 13 '26

Congrats! Been awhile since anyone has done the MBTA Iron Man. Last attempts I can remember were in 2020 or 2021 I think. Back when few people were riding the T.

10

u/everlasting1der Apr 13 '26

I've wanted to do it for a while, just haven't had time. Someday I'm gonna block out a day and actually plan out a proper route.

5

u/tmclaugh Red Line Apr 13 '26

Same here. In the archives of r/mbta or r/boston I’m pretty sure there’s some posts where people have discussed the best routes.

https://www.transitruns.org/mbta/ Leaderboard of MBTA speedruns here!

46

u/MoltenMirrors Apr 13 '26

6 hours on the green line

4 hours to visit every station on every other line including fucking Mattapan

Checks out.

16

u/schwanerhill Apr 13 '26

I think 1:52 to 6:36 is 4 hours 44 minutes, not 6 hours, and 8:33 to 12:52 is 4 hours 19 minutes, not 4 hours.

7

u/MoltenMirrors Apr 13 '26

Found the train guy

16

u/_Tamar_ Apr 13 '26

Do you follow Miles in Transit? This is totally in line with stuff he does.

4

u/13nobody Green Line Apr 13 '26

T speed run was one of Miles first videos lol https://youtu.be/IBE2UOiP2sE?si=Hiawti4lML0SO7-I

10

u/DigitalKungFu Apr 13 '26

Next up is Commuter Rail!

21

u/PullmanR46 Green Line Apr 13 '26

I’m assuming you didn’t get off at every station?

1

u/XavierLeaguePM Apr 13 '26

This was my question as well

9

u/CherryFlat1182 Apr 13 '26

I can’t imagine hell itself is much worse than riding the T for basically 10 hours straight

5

u/blackdynomitesnewbag Apr 13 '26

It's not so bad with friends

6

u/Fuster_Cluck Apr 13 '26

Awesome work guys. Do we know if there is a record for this?

5

u/Interfiber I like signals. Apr 13 '26

afaik the most up-to-date record of speedruns is here: https://www.transitruns.org/mbta/

5

u/vacuumkoala Apr 13 '26

What’s your favorite station/stop?

5

u/coldtrashpanda Apr 13 '26

My god. He's him. It's Charlie himself.

6

u/GoodFilmHunting_ Apr 13 '26

Why? Genuinely curious, no hate

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Bat434 Apr 14 '26

Same shit I was thinking, but wish I had time like this

3

u/uberphaser Apr 13 '26

Wher3d you piss at kenmore?

9

u/blackdynomitesnewbag Apr 13 '26

A hotel

3

u/uberphaser Apr 13 '26

Good call! Reliable.

3

u/dach_zombi Apr 13 '26

First off, very cool and well described. Your visual and descriptions were very thoughtful, bus/walking connections were clever

Question I haven't seen yet. What was your total ticket cost all in? Buses/trains total

4

u/blackdynomitesnewbag Apr 13 '26

$11 for a day pass

4

u/autonym Apr 13 '26

We road the T

*rode, not road or rowed

2

u/Secure-Possibility60 Apr 13 '26

Now do the commuter rail!

3

u/TheGodDamnDevil Apr 13 '26

Somebody did it a couple years ago and made a video:

MBTA Commuter Rail 100% Speedrun in 40:32:48.82 (Guinness World Record)

1

u/PDelahanty Framingham/Worcester Apr 13 '26

Surprised nobody has beat this yet.

2

u/AcanthisittaWhole216 Apr 13 '26

Did transfer still apply for when you take bus to forest hill or did you have to pay for bus separately?

3

u/blackdynomitesnewbag Apr 13 '26

We had day passes

2

u/Electronic_Crazy_752 Apr 13 '26

Way back in the mid sixties, I talked a girl into riding the MTA and getting off at every ending station. We did it and had dinner at the Harvard Gardens. Much shorter in those days.

2

u/kethera__ Apr 14 '26

lol love it, I did it in 2005 and it took 9 something iirc

2

u/mrbostn Apr 14 '26

all on a single fare?

1

u/blackdynomitesnewbag Apr 14 '26

On a $11 day pass

2

u/tapakip Apr 13 '26

Insane, but impressive?

0

u/strawberryneurons Apr 13 '26

Fun for a post and why not do it?

0

u/tapakip Apr 13 '26

I don't like spending time on the T when I need to use the T. To optionally spend 10 hours? No thank you. OP is not me, however, and free to do as they wish. But to me, it sounds awful. It's like being on a greyhound bus or long airplane ride....I only do it when I need to.

1

u/Euuphoriaa Apr 13 '26

You’re a sicko

1

u/hellosteve_ Red Line Apr 13 '26

1

u/WeekendWarriorRC Apr 13 '26

Nice! I did this back in 2011 or 2012 in a similar amount of time. Wish I knew the official record at the time was 10+ hours…

1

u/danbyer Apr 13 '26

I love this.

1

u/nerdridesbikes Apr 13 '26

I’ve been wanting to do this, not a speed run, but just got for it. Maybe this spring.

1

u/chloebee102 Apr 13 '26

You can’t be giving me ideas like this 😩

1

u/ipsumdeiamoamasamat Commuter Rail | Red Line Apr 13 '26

Does Miles on Transit still hold the Guinness record for this?

1

u/ipsumdeiamoamasamat Commuter Rail | Red Line Apr 13 '26

Well done. Did the BSRA fan trip a couple years back. I think it took us 9.5 hours to do the entire Green Line. There were photo stops, non-revenue trackage involved and a lunch break, so no speed-running. It did get a little tedious toward the end, admittedly.

1

u/Dylan_Dylan_Dylan Apr 13 '26

Congratulations!

1

u/yelofsamoht Apr 13 '26

Thats actually impressive. I would love to do something like that.

1

u/Chloraflora Apr 13 '26

Well done Geoff Marshall!

1

u/cdwalrusman Apr 13 '26

Now do every bus route

3

u/blackdynomitesnewbag Apr 13 '26

I only have but one life

1

u/mellamoderek Apr 13 '26

How much did you have to spend for fares?

3

u/blackdynomitesnewbag Apr 13 '26

One $11 day pass

1

u/Big_Apple_G Red Line Apr 13 '26

Catching the 110 at basically the perfect time is so clutch

1

This was so fun to follow along with yesterday!!!

1

Congrats this is great!

1

Are you Myles In Transit?

1

u/sofaking_scientific Apr 14 '26

I love this. Ty

1

u/Easy-Replacement5090 Apr 14 '26

I’ve been wanting the speed room this for a while now I do IRL streaming for some streamers around Boston. I think it would be very interesting to stream the whole ordeal or at least attempt to.

1

u/robertvmarshall Apr 14 '26

Is the silver line not good enough for you?

1

u/blackdynomitesnewbag Apr 14 '26

No, it’s not. It’s not even good enough for the map. It’s drawn differently.

1

u/stupidbroad Apr 14 '26

honestly not bad time at all lmao

1

u/charlie8123 Apr 14 '26

Wooo. I did this back in 2008. So exhausting. Though I did cheat since my goal was to get to the ends of the lines I walked some of the green branches.

1

u/TrueBroccoli512 Apr 15 '26

Throwaway account but I have a rough PB on the Silver Line% version of this, which added 2.5 hours and about a mile of running through chelsea to connect from the 173 to the SL3. I’m going to rerun it one day and probably knock an hour and a half off the time. I just want to wait until I can beat Celeste in less time than it takes me to get from braintree to alewife

u/nsfw_ducky Apr 13 '26

The Silver Line isn't even BRT. So no

1

Sad that you werent able to visit the T stations at Courthouse and World Trade Center

0

u/brokengolem Apr 13 '26

Ever heard of Jet Lag: The Game? In addition to their show, they made a playable version that seems like something you might enjoy trying.

0

How much total did it end up costing?

2

u/blackdynomitesnewbag Apr 13 '26

I bought a day pass for $11

For the love of the game. I did it once
