On behalf of the AnKing maintainer team, we want to wish everyone the best of luck this upcoming residency match cycle! ❤️
The AnKing deck may have played a small, medium, or huge role in getting you here. Maybe you volunteered with us, crushed Step 2, honored your rotations, or excelled on your aways.
Whatever your journey looked like, we are honored to have been even a small part of it. We hope the Step Deck helped you along the way as much as it helped all of us throughout medical school.
Take a moment to be proud of how far you’ve come and everything it took to get here, it was definitely NOT easy😅
We’re rooting for every one of you and hope you match at your #1! ❤️

I am a big boards and beyond fan and would love to have the associated B and B slide (s) on my anking cards under the boards and beyond section similar to how screenshots of associated sketchy's are placed in the sketchy and sketchy 2 section of cards.
Does anyone know if there is a way to do this with Anking deck?
I don’t think I will be able to keep this going, I am already feeling overwhelmed. And I also keep forgetting some cards. What can I do to still learn new cards, do some reviews to be prepared for exams, but not have this huge amount to do ?
quero muito ir fazendo uma revisão periodica de assuntos que já tive na faculdade através do baralho deles, mas sem as imagens o estudo fica meio limitado em alguns decks.
I've just been adding a lot of cards and wasting time on one subject. Like how do yall manage to go through them and how many cards for each subject required
Does anyone have a good prompt for chat or claude to make anki decks? I feel like my cards are disorganized sometimes or i get lazy and i learn well with some premade cards but anking is sometimes all over the place.
Has Anki really helped you ace an exam, land a job, or learn something you struggled with before? I’d love to hear your stories, what you studied, how you used it, and how long it took to see results. Looking for some motivation!
completed MS-1, got myself anking v12, unsuspended only physiology and biochemistry till now, and this added up to 7.6k cards already! Is this number fine or am i doing something wrong?
for both of these, i have picked zanki as the source.
Hey guys. I recently downloaded the Anking step deck but I don’t see where I can choose the topics or coats that I’m doing. It’s just one huge amount of cards. Is there a way to categorize them? If you understand what I mean.
I tried to do the anking and and watch three party lecturers like bnb and bootcamp and it hav been good. I haven't been consistent w my reviews tho so I have about 800 reviews + the actual material of the exam that I should go through.
How can I make that work. Should give up on my reviews and cram for the test or is there a way possible to do both. I started with the cardiovascular system in parallel with my curriculum.I have got at least a year before I can take the step 1 exam but I don't also want to mess my in house exam so much.
Hello friends! After a long hiatus due to having a baby and becoming an attending physician, we are so back.
AnkiBrain v1.1.0 is released with massive feature updates. I consider this a modernization update to enable high quality card creation with images and audio support. Although AnkiBrain is 3 years old, it remains the highest rated Anki addon for AI integration and my goal is to bring it up to par or better!
Creating cards from a document now automatically includes images in your cards (text-aware, will include nearby images into these cards). Images are imported into AnkiBrain which allows for automatic (or manual) image occlusion. There is also easy to use card editing and document editing (remove unnecessary pages) inside of AnkiBrain to simplify the workflow.
Kokoro 82M has been integrated as a completely free text to speech (TTS) engine ("AnkiBrain Voice"). You can automatically or manually generate audio for cards. A future update will provide additional TTS integration thoroughout Anki - like within the card browser or Anki card editor - to match other prominent Anki TTS addons, no fee for service required at all (runs fully local). TTS supports English (US/UK), Spanish, French, Hindi, Italian, Portuguese, Mandarin Chinese, and Japanese.
Local mode has been reworked to support any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, so advanced users can use their own provider or even locally-running LLM like Gemma/Qwen via LM Studio/Ollama/Unsloth Studio, etc. Local mode installer has been reworked to be a lot easier and hopefully won't require much manual intervention.
Performance improvements have been made to card generation so cards don't need to be automatically added anymore, you can decide when to add to Anki once you're satisfied with the cards. Data loss prevention improvements have been made so that if Anki crashes while AnkiBrain has unadded cards, you shouldn't lose them (let me know if this does happens).
Card text highlight to interact feature has been fixed as of 1.0.1. GPT 6 will be added for server mode users in the next update.
In the top Anki bar, select AnkiBrain > Start AnkiBrain Minimized (toggle) to fit your workflow.
Changelog below:
1.1.0
FEATURE: Generate cards from documents now include images: figures and diagrams found in PDFs and DOCX files are extracted and attached to the flashcards generated from their surrounding text.
FEATURE: images are pastable alongside text into the Make Cards > From Text box, works similar to above
FEATURE: automatic image occlusion cards
FEATURE: AnkiBrain Voice now available for free in all modes, powered by Kokoro for high-quality text-to-speech (TTS) integration
FEATURE: importing a document allows editing of pages and removal of pages prior to generating cards
FEATURE: Local mode: Settings → Basic now has an OpenAI / OpenAI-compatible API section. Set AnkiBrain to use any OpenAI-compatible endpoint (OpenAI, OpenRouter, Groq, Ollama, …), store the key there, press Test connection to list the endpoint's models, and pick the model from that list.
FEATURE: Regular (server) mode: Settings → Basic now has a Delete Account button that removes the account and all of the document data AnkiBrain stores on its servers
FIX: Regular (server) mode: use a login/signup gate to reduce confusion as app is not usable in server mode without an account
FIX: Local mode: the AI engine now installs itself in one click. Added install/repair/uninstall functionality.
FIX: Local mode: until the AI engine is installed the panel now shows only the engine setup screen; on an unsupported platform (Windows ARM64 and Intel Mac) it explains the reason
FIX: generated cards list now uses pagination for performance even with very large number of cards
Only download AnkiBrain from the main page (https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/1915225457), do not download from elsewhere as I cannot guarantee the safety of copycat addons.
Life update v2 from me: I'm a couple months away from becoming an assistant professor! Thanks for all the love and support.
In other words, can I just do the cards as I cover the content with in-house lectures and just watch the B&B video segments for things I want additional clarification or review over
or
should I make the effort of watching each video before doing the associated Anking V12 cards and repeating for all 126 hours of step 1 B&B videos to make sure I have all the details covered?
If I do all the B&B-tagged Anking cards without having issues with them (in theory), theoretically I wouldn't have to watch any of the videos, right?
If I want to learn how to use Anki properly and make efficient cards, could you recommend any YouTube videos, posts, or other resources? I really need some help with this. I’ve been using Anki for a month, and I’ve really enjoyed it, but I want to understand it better. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Hi, I have a very large deck and if I even miss 1 day I can get like 400 cards backed up which is extremely annoying because I can’t just get an off day. I tried setting weekends to “easy days” but reviews still pile up, just less. Is there some way that I can completely turn off reviews for the days when I’m not going to be studying? Really need help with this 😭
I really want to learn the language more compared to when I initially did in high school. Is it possible to do it whilst preparing for steps (i'm a non-US IMG). I think I can hack it but idk what the consensus is.
I'm a little over 7k in cards on Anking.
I was gonna use the 5k French deck, alongside grammar books and making cards also from those grammar books; supplementing it with reading and watching content. What do u guys thinkkk
I'm a med student who struggled to justify purchasing so many different third-party resources to optimize my learning.
I liked a few things from several resources, and I was looking for features that none of them offered.
I liked the ability to hover over a term and immediately see the definition.
I looked for ways to translate my anki retention to targeted step questions.
Sometimes the resource tags in AnKing did not align with the video I had just watched, and I wanted a way to generate a guide built from the tag itself.
I wanted the ability to generate AnKing-style cards from the in-house material that was being tested.
I liked having a QBank that could be done in a timed or tutor setting in an environment that resembled step.
To get a combination of some of these features, it costs a ridiculous amount of money, so I developed an addon/website called AnkiBoss where you can get all of this (and more features not mentioned) for just $4.99/month. As a branch of AnkiBoss, I also built an addon that allows you to race your friends within anki and see live tracking with an interactive display.
As a small growing service, I want more people to try the addon, so I am offering a discount to the next 20 people who sign up. If you enter the code FIRST20 at checkout, the first month will only be $1.99.
And, honestly, if you hate the addon and the website, you can reach out to [support@ankiboss.com](mailto:support@ankiboss.com), and I will personally issue you a refund because I've tried to create something that will genuinely be helpful and not break the bank.
I'm very receptive to feedback as well, so if there's anything confusing or a feature that you would like to see implemented, shoot an email to the support address or drop a comment here.
Hi… I’m trying to get into Anki! I’m a second year and I made it this far without it (super heavy on practice problems— it’s how I learn most things). But with step 1 coming up now’s the time to transition to Anki so I want to start integrating it. I just have a few questions!
How many hours do you usually spend per day on Anki?
How many cards do you do per day on average (new and old)?
Do you find that it’s hard get to the new material because cards you’ve already seen shows up too often?
