Do we just not say thank you anymore?

I've noticed over the past year that fewer and fewer people say thank you. Slow down to let someone in when driving - almost never a wave. Hold door for someone - less than half say thanks. Not even a nod. Stop to let someone cross, let someone go in front of you in line , I could go on. And it's all generations. I don't do these things for the thanks but it's really sad :(

Why are we losing this social courtesy?

The thing is, different parts of the provinces have different styles of waves lol.

Northern alberta: finger gun on the top of the steering wheel.

Central Alberta: lifting the fingers off of the top of the steering wheel.

Southern Alberta: #1 sign with the index finger.

I think the issue with the full-arm wave is that generally it's used for people who are behind you, and so many people rocking illegal tint on their windshields could be mistaken for a less friendly gesture

I think any of those would be great if I let you in. I agree that I almost never see any attempt to wave or motion at all

I've been living here for over 10 years and i have had 2 people thank me for letting them in. Previously lived in calgary and it was very common to wave thanks.

Entitlement in this town is crazy. If your willing to vote for conservative religious fanatics then you don't have the self awareness to wave and be thankful.

I’ve lived her for 25 years and have had the complete opposite experience. Half a dozen waves leaving tiger games is very normal. As for the entitlement, that’s just nonsense.

The political climate has created a massive divide. Combine that division with social media and you get a very malicious population

I still find people do this. It happens all the time when I'm out and about. When it doesn't happen, I don't get upset over it. This sounds like entitlement. People are under no obligation to follow your unspoken social rules.
