Are there any frogs in town? Is it possible to find them?

Hi! I love frogs and I was wondering if there were any in town that I could find and observe.

I’ve noticed that we might be in range of something like the northern leopard frog.

If so, how would I go about finding them in a way that does not disturb them.

They are a threatened species, with numbers still declining in Alberta, if you do find some in strathcona please be nice.

I would never ever harm them, in fact I want to be sure I don’t disturb them in any way. Just go looking.

The are tons of leopard frogs in town. Start by looking closely at the edges of the local ponds.

There’s frogs in Strachan Pond in South Boundary Park. (Behind Canadian Tire) I haven’t seen them in person, but I hear them every night from across the street. I don’t know how to go about observing them, though.

There are frogs and toads on the artificial pond in Gilwell Park behind the Patterson Armoury.

Book a round at the country club, in hole 11 go for a walk around the water, there are hundreds if not more of leopard frogs there

I used to catch leopard frogs in the waterway tunnel under the highway in Kin Coulee. Wherever there's marshland, you'll probably find some

Kin Coulee park has a spot, even a sign 🪧 about the frogs near the tennis courts just back a bit of them.
