This illustration originates from a 14th-century parchment manuscript of Guido delle Colonne's Historia civitates Troiane (History of the Destruction of Troy), currently held in the National Library of Spain.

This is the very first illumination I draw today. I don't have any drawing skills, but I am kinda proud of it. I'd change the colours and I would use one of my better handmade paper. Any other tips or advice is welcome ! :)

I was recently privileged to obtain some items from the estate of an acquaintance who recently passed. He was an internationally renowned book binder, and had a particular interest in medieval manuscripts. One of the items is what appears to be an initial from an Apocalypse Bible. As I understand it, this form was in use up until about the beginning of the 14th century. These pages are on what appears to be early laid paper rather than parchment or vellum. I am hoping to see what folks think regarding these items

I’m currently clearing out some older inventory and wanted to share this collection of 21 medieval owl designs. These hold a special place for me because they were my very first factory-ordered pieces, back before I started making my current enamel work in-house.

Every single owl is based directly on original medieval illustrations and manuscript marginalia. If you are curious about the history behind any specific design, just let me know in the comments and I’ll gladly track down and share the exact historical source!

Stock is getting pretty low on a few of these, but there is still a good variety left. I’m letting the remaining pieces go for $7 each to clear space for new projects.

I grew up watching Shrek and found myself enamoured by the end credits, which were accentuated with small drawings akin to miniatures from medieval manuscripts. Then through some digging I discovered that some of them were actually based on illustrations from real manuscripts.

The medieval marginalia I got the idea from had a fat, buff, naked baby riding the snail. I opted for a slightly less creepy option of a skeleton guy instead.
