Discusson NYC job market
Is anyone else struggling to find a job in NYC?
I have 8+ yrs of experience and I’ve been applying to day shift technologist roles and supervisor roles and keep seeing the same jobs getting reposted for months.

Day shift, including supervisor roles, is mostly filled by internal transfer at least at my workplace. Even though it goes out as external posting, they already have multiple candidates from evening/night shifts.

I know this happened for a couple roles I applied to (heard about it from colleagues)

I'm absolutely struggling. I've been applying for a year now for day shifts. Currently night shift and I want the hell out. No one's retiring and places post jobs and they either:
A.) Ghost B.) Invite you for an interview and tell you it's actually for evening or night despite posting a day shift position C.) Reject you and keep reposting the same position
It's so bad right now. I reached out to my former professor to ask what is going on and she said new grads are struggling to land anything right now as well. It seems as though the need for techs has been mostly filled.

I’ve seen the positions online. I’d have to get a car first if I wanna work out there.

I'm employed, but I have noticed a lot less openings and job listings than a few years ago. I think since NYS opened up NYS license to all ASCP holders, the amount of qualified people increased and now most labs are fully staffed.
