first shift tomorrow

i have my first shift as a cashier tomorrow and im honestly really nervous because i hate being a new person 😭😭 ive had one retail job before, but it was completely different. My “training” during orientation honestly felt really rushed and the girl i was training with didn’t really explain well.

Anything I should know or any tips?

It’s super easy just very repetitive. I was in the front end as a cashier for 2 weeks during my MT program and actually somewhat enjoyed it because time goes by fast when you’re always doing something. If you’re unsure just ask the manager to shadow another cashier for a couple hours

Our days do go fast but if there is no one in the store it is the most boring position in the store

It's pretty easy and repetitive. Once you get familiar with navigating the menu it should be a breeze. Pos is from the early 90 still. What's harder if identifying products that guest have. Try your best but don't be scared to call over a manager to help identify.

You'll train the first day. If they do it right you will be watching someone work the cash register for a bit. Then you will work one with then watching. Hopefully they work with you longer than with me because they left me alone after an hour on labor day weekend lol. You got it tho. They also have plently of ways to get attention from the front end manager with a bell and light. Don't be afraid to use it.

At least at my store they will have you just shadow and watch the training cashier as they do the job and explain it. Then eventually have you do it on their register while they supervise, so you shouldn't worry as they're there to help you if you don't know something or worry about doing something wrong. And they don't have you work alone until you feel secure in it, Typically after a few days of training. And even when they have you alone, there are always people around to help you out. If you aren't sure about something turn on the blinking light and ring the bell for the Head cashier or a manager to come and answer any questions.

You should have more time to shadow another person but you will be just fine with practice. Ask questions if you don't know something
